To be honest, to not know you're aiming for immortality in Boneworks does require quite the lack of attention. You can miss everything else, but it's written all over the walls of a room you have to go through that has nothing else in it. I'd like to point out. Vaulting issues most likely are due to the "Hybrid Sit/Stand" System, which was made for when you play while standing, but decide you want to sit on a chair, and then to stand again, and so on and so forth. I disliked what they did with legs in Boneworks on it's last rework(The contract upon jumping one) mainly because it still happens while you are holding onto something. But Bonelab makes it worse by forcing the legs to be fully extended(and thus getting in the way) instead of fully contracted. That being said, Boneworks was buggy at launch because it was a completely new concept. Bonelab had almost everything ready for it, and they still managed to screw it up. Also, can we point out how you can add repositories for mods to Bonelab, but the only way to go through them is to click "next page" and "previous page"? I have over 200 pages, and it has no "go to page number x" button or a search function.
@La4geas Жыл бұрын
For some people in the comment section: No, this game isn't meant to be just "a Sandbox that doesn't focus on lore". We're having this story be continued for at least 2 games now(Duck Hunt and Boneworks). For those on the Quest 2 disagreeing with the video, shut up. All you've played until now are tech demos of games that could be made within a week. Of course you enjoyed the game, it's the first one you're playing. Was Bonelab hyped? Yes, yes it was. But it didn't just not live up to it. It had issues that makes it look like it wasn't made by Boneworks' developers.

I only own a quest, but I have played the 4 levels of labworks that were modded in and I can't agree more. Bonelab can be so much better, and labworks is proof of that. I haven't played any bonelab main game levels in moths, but I can't even count how many times I've played streets. Something that absolutely blew my mind happened when I was first playing runoff with the labworks mod. I was running through the trenches, shooting onmis and I saw a little crack in the wall. I walked up, looked through and saw the puzzle where you have to press the buttons in the right order, even though I didn't know it at the time. And when I saw the Ford I thought "Okay its probably just a room outside the level, and I'm okay with that" But when I walked into that room and pressed the button to open the door and saw the hallway I walked through the start the level, I swear my head exploded I never had anything like that when I was playing bonelab. The bonelab levels feel like levels. Boneworks levels feel like real worlds that people could live in. Bonelab sucks. And I've only played 4 levels of boneworks And I would like to add the fact that mods make the game a lot better, but I'd rather have a boneworks two than a bonelab

I am excited so see SLZ's next game but the fact that it will most likely be out of the Bone aesthetic is really really sad. in my opinion: Bonelab's ENTIRE development was pushed into a VR version of GMOD. I'm genuinely surprised the campaign was even there. This is the first step into the REAL game. stress level zero is probably going to make a campaign ridden game after bonelab. everyone forgets this. **BONELAB. WAS. AN. EXPERIMENT.** This game was NOT and is NOT full game. It was supposed to be finished with MODS. It's a GMOD vr. They put almost all of their dedication into making the physics engine work (and after a few patches, quite flawlessly) on the quest 2. And they're updating the SDK so that it'll support so many more things. This game was not meant to be it's story. and they never really promoted it either. The mod was the hype. And it was supposed to be the main focus (although they didn't really do the trailer right for this). Their new game however, seems very promising. and likely will be story oriented. Bonelab, like i said, was an experiment. It was to see if the game ran on the quest 2, to develop the physics engine so it runs on the quest 2, and run benchmarks using the quest 2, and look at their statistics using the quest 2. It's why its so lazy.

Biggest gaming disappointment of the recent years for me. Boneworks is one of the best games I've ever played, with an incredibly good, valve'y atmosphere, mind-bending levels and moments and gameplay that made me feel like I was playing a video game for the first time in my life. Everything was so coherent and well thought-out compared to Bonelab. I almost lost my shit when I saw that the release of Bonelab was happening in a couple of days. Played through the whole thing in a day and couldn't believe how bad the campaign was. The game has been downgraded massively for the Quest 2. I'm still thinking of Boneworks to this day and how immersed in it I was, especially when listening to the godlike and creepy soundtrack. I can't describe how scared and weird Boneworks made me feel. I already have nostalgia for the game, even though I've finished it like a year ago. Bonelab is just incoherent and downgraded. Hopefully they scratch that Boneworks 2 ich with Hall of the Machine King or DeadFM.

This game has so much potential but the way they didnt make any of the levels or parts if them correspond with any of the avatars is just so underwhelming. I do think the mods are going to start getting better and better and we might end up with teams coming together and making whole other full campaigns with all of the missing things the original campaign had. 9:40 While I agree that the Moon level is definitely the laziest level in the campaign and was in desperate need of a re-work, I feel that the way they updated it was the wrong way to go about it. Before, it was just "walk from point A to point B." Very boring. But because of the avatar's abysmal walk speed, you are encouraged to use the low-gravity environment to your advantage and find creative ways to efficiently traverse. For example, you could jump and use a gun's recoil to push yourself around faster. Or- like in MY first playthrough- use a sledgehammer to pole-vault everywhere! But NOW, it's just "use these 2 jump pads to get from point A to point B." ALSO very boring, but now it only takes 10 seconds and there's no room or reason to try anything else! So instead of a 5-15 minute scenario which quietly encourages creative thinking (the plot of the game) that some will have fun with, we have a 30 second filler level that gives us the short avatar and NOBODY has fun.

Honestly if you watch this video before buying Bonelab, hear me out. This game is by no means at all bad, it's got a great engine, it plays relatively smooth and I really think that the addition of mods really made things better, with mod developers pumping out new mods constantly, the game never really gets dry and the sandbox is amazing, being able to do what you want, even create and build your own levels if you get bored of the one in campaign, if you look on Steam, the overall reviews are mostly positive with recent reviews being very positive. It's a great game, just get it on cdkeys or something else other than steam because my god I'm not paying that amount of money again, don't regret the purchase at all though as I find it to be a great game. At the end of the day it all depends on what you like in a game so all the extremely biased reviews, like this one, may in fact be inaccurate for you, everyone has different opinions, if you want a proper review go look at a video that 100% unbiased and not completely dissing it the whole way through, nor complimenting it all the way through, look for a video that's in between, giving mixed reviews on the game as a whole.

The way I like to think about bonelab is similar to valve, with boneworks being a half-life 2 kinda situation, and boneworks being it's Garry's mod. The focus was never really the campaign, but the mod support. Froma game perspective, there isnt much of a difference, but behind the scenes, bonelab technologically is better, with more support for others. Yeha, boneworks is a way better game, bonelab is just more about improving upon the tech

The biggest reason why bonelab doesn't feel as big as boneworks is because it's supposed to run on the quest
@amviient4924 Жыл бұрын
I haven't watched the video yet, but one of the main reasons for bonelab kinda dying was probably the disconnect with the developers and the community. The community envisioned GMOD in VR, with multiplayer and game modes, scripting and insane amounts of mods, and complete freedom to do anything. In reality the devs said multiplayer will never be supported and full scripting might not be due to security reasons. They definitely should've rolled the game out with a polished and extended campaign, as well as multiplayer and full mod support. I get that they wanted to "build the mod API with the community" but it just ended up causing a messy and slow ability to mod anything into the game. They had the hype, they had the players, but they had weird execution. It could definitely still be fixed, but it will take a lot of work and the devs seem like they don't really care if the hype and community keeps going or not. All in all, I'm not really sure what their goal was, maybe just making money? Because if so, they succeeded. It's still a good game at least, but not very replayable after a few runs and messing with mods for a bit. -A Bonelab Modder

Iean the forum mods on steam did a massive ban culling to silence alot of people so I'd agree 100 on the devs being disconnected

Bonelab wasn’t meant to be a story game, it’s mostly about showcasing the physics and the modding capabilities. Which is kind of a bummer but yeah. Boneworks is more story-based while Bonelab is more sanbox-based. If you didn’t realise that I don’t know what to say.
@brandonott610311 ай бұрын
Exactly, boneworks was made just to pave the way for the future of vr, physics, etc. and they were able to make the story so long because it wasn’t meant for quest or other stuff, more for pcvr and high end headsets. And now they brought bonelab to the quest to give the community more freedom with modding and sandbox stuff, sure the story was less impactful and shorter, but it was still understandable.

Imo, bonelab was entirely carried by mods. I mean, it played what seems like a major role. Campaign was so boring imo, the best was the start, with no avatars or replaying after getting avatars. The other half is straight up avatar tutorials, which could've been just 2-3 levels, and introducing character switching. And moonbase.

In my opinion the modding is better with bonelab and it probably will always be better with mods. But boneworks is absolutely amazing in all ways and they hit most of the boxes and I honestly prefer boneworks over bonelab. Boneworks also has better lore, bonelab is just stupid.
@powdereyes221010 ай бұрын
honestly? now I wonder why they even did what they did making an entirely new game, making false promises and all that stupid nonsense when they could've literally just made an update for boneworks that allowed easier modding and better physics you might think quest users wouldn't have that but 1 if a modder can manage to add boneworks to bonelab as a mod I'm pretty sure an entire company with 2-3 years of time could do the same and 2 bonelab would've been abandoned if not for what boneworks already had with tiny patches, aka interactivity and physics... of which is STILL broken

bonelab is entirely being carried by fusion. the only reason i even open bonelab anymore is just to play deathmatch with friends then not touch my headset for a month. i sold my modded switch to buy a quest to use with my pc, yet i unironically find more use in my phone than my headset anymore. literally all that's happening in the vr space anymore are developers releasing bad sequels to good vr games for the quest to profit, and it kinda' just sucks now..
@penedrador11 ай бұрын
The quest headsets are a blessing and a curse. There are now more people into VR than ever, so there is more incentive to make VR games. but most devs just make games for quest first, then port it for PCVR. The result is PS2 Graphics and small levels... some games even went so far and downgraded their PCVR games to be crossplay compatible with quest...

Boneworks was really fun but bonelab is worse I still like bonelab but boneworks was really big especially in campaign and they had a better mix of sandbox and campaign while focusing more on campaign then working more on the sandbox portion of it. Still can't say bonelab was a horrible game tho just not as good as boneworks. But they could have made the story better.
@Hyrule-Maniac Жыл бұрын
Bonelab is not a bad game, but nowhere NEAR Boneworks level of complexity, feel, and overall gameplay. I hope that SLZ's, "B-Side" ( Possibly large DLC to Bonelab or a new game ) is better. Hell, at least Boneworks had a compelling story, with you attempting to achieve immortality. Bonelab's story made no sense, and it felt like there was no point to anything I did. You reach the void, and nothing happens. No special powers, no escaping, nothing. Just a dry, rushed campaign which could've been so much. Great video, and great job expressing how we as players feel.

Honestly, I never sticked to Boneworks. Maybe it was because it was too difficult to me (my FIRST VR game) and never came back to it. Now I own and finished Bonelab and even kind of liked it even though it is short. But watching this video and realizing it is made by Goldpro himself, I'm convinced to go back and try Boneworks again. A few years of experience in VR should help, and I liked the physics of the game.
