6:26 Without spaces, Google wants it to be "fun and sensible rockfall journey"... 😆 Shifting around the spaces makes other silly things. This is one of the aspects of Japanese that I don't understand. There are no spaces. You're just expected to know when each word ends and the next begins.

You definitely attribute way to much to deliberately trying to obscure. Its 100% devs with limited time trying to make a cool small detail that they thought would never be seen. As for why some is in Japanese, likely its because it was a small detail the localizers thought nobody would notice and likely dropped translating for other parts of development that needed work.

6:25 The sign roughly translates into: "DANGER: FALLING HAZARD DISORDERLY ROCKFALL JOURNEY BEYOND" A more natural translation would be that the sign pretty much just says: "Danger: Falling Rocks - Proceed with Caution"

In the Japanese language they don't use certain sounds/letters. L is rare, they use R more. So that is my instead of Malo they rather Maro

I wish you treated the signs a little more credulously; like in the last one I think you should have seen pretty evidently, and subsequently stated that "HL" would likely mean "hylia lake". language isnt rote, after all

6:15 The bottom word is "Tobikoeru" not "Tabikoeru". I'm not an expert but it presumably means, "Danger Falling to the Ground / Leap out of the way of noisy falling rocks" which are a hazard on the mountain trail. 8:38 It's not exactly that they look identical; there isn't really an L in Japanese. The R characters are reused to denote L in foreign or fictional words. Maro and Malo are both 'correct' readings of the original Japanese because it's ambiguous, and it's only the context that an official translation exists one way or the other that makes them incorrect. Most of these (especially with the L/R mixups) don't even look to be mistranslated per se, but rather look like they were never translated at all in the first place and like the exact text from Nintendo of Japan from 20 years ago pre-dating official romanizations of names like Malo or Telma. (Some English words like Sale or Bar would be recognizable to most Japanese people and are used as loan words.) 9:34 This is likely not a spelling mistake but intentional, because in Japanese, a special symbol (sokuon ッ) is used to denote a slight stop in the pronunciation, which is rendered in English as a duplicate of the following letter. But in the original Japanese, there is no extra K; it is just "Ra (symbol) ka". The X denotes the slight stop in the middle of the word that's indicated by the sokuon. 11:16 Bar is probably written first on the sign because it's usually done that way in Italy/France (Bar Vitelli, Bar Hemingway, etc...). Japan has a slight fascination with those cultures and themed French/Italian restaurants are fairly common in Japan. 11:38 It's possible the backwards text is a leftover of the GameCube/Wii left-right flip on the entire world. When remastering the game, they may have simply flipped the reference textures from the Wii version and missed a few odd textures (the GameCube version is the canon orientation, but the Wii was slightly higher fidelity), or the mistake could've happened in the initial GCN/Wii flip. 12:13 These were likely symmetrically flipped like this to save space. You only have to store the data for half the texture and just flip it (same with the door). The door may have originally been a full texture with writing all the way across both sides, but then someone came in afterwards in an optimization pass looking for nearly symmetrical textures and cut them in half to be mirrored on both sides, without regard for the pre-existing text. Great video!

Funny fact is for us in Germany we got the same names for some of the characters and places as in japanese. Just like Ordona is called Latoan here but Ordon remains the same. The two kids are actually named Maro and Taro and I suspect it's the same in japanese even though there is the thing with L and R as asian people sometimes have a hard time producing the R sound they tend to just use an L, also in writing. Same thing with the Dominion Rod which is called "Kopierstab" in german which would directly translate to Copy Rod in English. I guess they meant it's copying the movement of the user to the statues. Still don't know what is up with the C at the end of Faron. Here the name is a bit different but similar in pronounciacion: "Phirone" and Lanayru has a completely different tone to it, here it is called "Ranelle". Sadly I don't know if it is the same in japanese.

Regarding the Malos / Maros typo, Japanese / Korean quite often get their "L" and "R" mixed up. I did development work for a korean game and "Flaming Arrow" internally was called "Framing Arrow."

I've noticed you are using the HD version. I haven't played it, but I do know there are some differences, which I am glad you acknowledged. Some are completely new, like the stamps, but some are enhanced or changed like some of the decor. Perhaps most famous are the panels that border the walls of Castle Town. You can't really make them out, but the original does have similar panels.

You forgot about the text above the entrance to the Lakebed Temple. The first part of the text is just the alphabet, followed by a misspelling of the word "Royal." You also forgot about the "Book of Stuff found in Coro's hut in Faron.

It’s cool that even without using the cipher, you can basically read most of the words due to them looking so similar to English letters already. In this video I paused it before you deciphered any words and tried figuring out what they said based on how they looked, and got most of them correct. I love TP
