Watching Gohan turn into ssj2 for the first time back in the day on TV was so surreal, it was such a Heartfelt legendary moment that resonated with a lot of his fans and even non fans in general, especially when you were there with him at the beginning of his Journey, you cant deny the growth he went through from when he was kidnapped by radditz, to fighting nappa and vegeta, Going to namek, Getting involved in more life threatening fights, especially against frieza, as a child. And then the android saga came along with the cell arc, that's where he truly peaked, and let his true power thats been foreshadowed the whole time finally explode. Despite what many people say about him after the Cell arc, i personally think he is still the same awesome gohan we all knew and loved, especially when he is finally being given the spotlight nowdays. Too bad Akira died so soon... I really wanted to see all the way through the end with him, i hope he knows his legacy will live on for many decades to come, for eternity. I'm still waiting to see something that comes close to the level of epicness of this momment. Everything in the scene work. The music with the bird flying, the expression of utter shock on Gohan's face. The AMAZING scream followed by one of the most hair raising power explosions i've ever seen. The expressions of friends and foes alike in awe by the raw power they are witnessing and how they all just stopped fighting just to watch what the hell just happened. Even Cell's expression of "oh shit..." is on point. Then the music rises and we approach the climax seeing Gohan's power and hair standing up from Cell's perspective and then the climax is here... the music and the scene arrive at their most epic momment and we see Gohan's tears of anger rising instead of falling on his face because of the power he's releasing. This is the coolest display of anger and power I"ve ever seen in anime until today. After a while, the music dies down and we see the tears dry up and Gohan puts an even angrier face as if he was saying: "Alright... crying time is over, time to fuck this guy up." Wow... I can see everything so clearly in my head... I've watched this scene countless times.

The tears... The loss of morals and all of the feelings that held him back, that kept him human... All dissapearing in the blink of an eye to do what he couldn't alone. All the fear and sorrow that chained him down replaced with rage and bitterness, he was no longer the child that would never hurt willingly. He became a monster fuled by rage and hate, all with the intent to bring about suffering upon any who would dare stand in his way. I can't imagine how much that must have terrified Gohan, knowing that he had that inside of him, that at any given moment he could return to that pit of dispair that is his loss of compassion. And yet... He never gave up on trying for the life he loved, he lost many things along the way, but his dream was never one of them. I can see why many hate the fact that he wished to stop fighting, but has anyone considered whether or not he ever wanted to, to begin with?

Like Aragorn who launched a desperate atk to Sauron just to give Frodo a chance to live long enough to fulfill his mission.

I meant in the sense that he had to disgard them to become something he always feared from Frieza and the Ginyu Force. The fear of an overwhelming power that was used only to hurt, a power he gained to protect but he could only see through a red mist. His anger overcame him as he digsrded his morals, toying and torturing Cell even as his friends and family shouted at him to end it. He may not have thrown them all away, but the morals that he had to protect and save got lost in his overwhelming desire to hurt. Thus the tears that rolled down his face may not have been the morals that he discarded in the blazing heat of his anger, but they may as well have been. It was scary even for him, but what overcame his fear was his rage. A rage that was amplifed by SSJ2 and Super Saiyan in general as it uses your anger to power the user. But you are right his morals weren't lost that day, they only matured and grew overtime and because of it. He never once threw away his morals or his goals for good, but he had to toss them to control or at least use the power that he gained. He changed for the betterment of himself and his family.

Yes but not at the time of the fight, are you refering to afterward or at the time before Goku died. Because the whole reason that Goku died was because Gohan didn't listen and because of his morals being as they were he only wanted to make Cell suffer rather than defeat him and ending the fight. His morals were never disgarded for good if anything what I should have said was they were clouded. His anger was what caused everything to become what they were, after Goku died he saw what he was doing thus he "beat himself up" and lost all faith in his own abilities. It was Goku who snapped him out of it and it was Gohan who regained what he had lost and learned from it. To paraphrase, his morals were never lost more rather they were only temporarily compromised.

Allow me to use Romans 5:4 to further explain the inner conflicts of the soul and our struggle with life and its predicaments: "we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that *suffering produces perseverance; perseverance,character; and character, hope*" We all suffer, but through experiencing it we have a chance to learn and grow. So it wasn't his morals, he was learning from his experiences until this moment. Moment he undestood he had to fight evil for the sake of good.

I remember seeing this episode at 12 years old back in 1993 from a bootleg import VHS. (I was wondering why people had yellow hair, why a guys head got smashed in ) I was so confused but loved it. Crazy it wouldn't be until the year 2000 when I was 19 this episode would air in the US, and I was so disappointed this song wasn't included in it.

Even if cell had the saiyan blood in him He could not defeat gohan But what you said is right because the injury he had it was worse AND because Goku has died which made gohan in the worst state ever And one last thing Goku didn't actually help gohan in the Kamehameha he just used king kai telepathy (or whatever it's called) to talk to gohan and cheer him up And telling him that it's ok to unleash his full power (because gohan was scared of destroying earth if he did unleash it) And even if Vegeta and the Z Warriors (Fighters) didn't help gohan it was just a matter of time for goku to encourage him to use his full power And I have one thing to say Because I HATE the adult gohan Teen gohan is known that he has doubled the power of adult gohan #TeenGohanForLife

Gohan was also supposed to be the main character after the cell saga but fans got butthurt when Goku was killed off so they brought him back. It wasn't a bad decision but I don't think having Gohan as the mc was bad either. Matter of fact, it would've given this scene a LOT more purpose since it basically was his uprising. They missed golden opportunities with his arc. I haven't seen the newer movie, but I hope they do his arc justice.

Jessica Klaus Because he was so badass here and then so useless in the Boo arc, even after he canonically became (for a long while) the strongest unfused character in the series. After this, the only use for his strength seemed to be to power up the villains, which he did during the Boo arc not once but twice. It just feels like - if you're going to make him that strong, give him something to do. And I always thought the message behind Gohan's massive potential was that mixing Saiyans and Humans gave you something that could be stronger than both - but in the end, pureblood Saiyans are still the only ones allowed to do anything important.

I just realized something. Tamashii vs Tamashii, means "Spirit vs Spirit" or "Soul Vs Soul" which, in the game Dragon Ball Z dokkan battle, there is a link skill for the cell games Z fighters such as buff trunks and super saiyan 2 gohan, and Perfect Cell is weak to characters who have the Soul vs. Soul link skill, or "Tamashii vs Tamashii"
