I know I often don't realize how much of a sanitized villain I expect in comics and movies, etc. A true villain is going to be cruel, subtle, manipulative, hidden, psychological, and targeting the vulnerable. This guy is just a discount vampire, so while you might find it offensive it actually makes sense in a way. And also not really. The HIV is a very fragile virus, so to imagine that it would come into contact with this guy's immune system before being efficiently digested by whatever system he's got in place to derive nourishment from blood is a little bit stupid. Then again when this comic was released they had just realized that it's transmitted by bodily fluids, before that some people were treating it as if it was airborne.
