To be honest that makes way too much sense, he can get past the defences of apocalypse, he can travel the universe in one night for Christmas, despite the fact that planets orbiting different stars have different calendars, he can come back from being killed and the fact that he was killed means he can fluctuate in power, various incarnations of the same character could just be like darkseid’s avatars, and Christmas is a universal concept (apparently) meaning that it is entirely possible that Santa is a new god with the domain of ‘Christmas’ Oh also retcons can’t bring consistency to the character, but they wouldn’t have to if he came from new genesis

Santa Claus is an idea, not a character. There is no “canon” for Santa, instead there’s tales and stories and legends, and reimaginings, all derived from a symbol. Santa means different things to different people, because Christmas means different things to different people. I’m kind of glad that there isn’t just 1 Santa across all of DC Comics, especially since one of my favorite things about DC (especially over Marvel) is the willingness to experiment with characters and ideas.
@treytucker99485 жыл бұрын
actually there is a canon to them. all of them come from the world of the dreaming. AKA the same one from the sandman comics. as such there are as many versions of him as there are ideals for santa. also thanks to that fact none of them can truly die... they would just pop back up in the world of the dreaming if they did.
@Anthintendo5 жыл бұрын
trey tucker, I’m talking about cultural/historical canon, not DC canon. Every song, story, cartoon, movie, even every IMAGE of Santa comes from a slightly different place, with its own mythos based on the cultural it’s derived from/being inserted to. The character of Santa is nebulous, easy to redefine and reinterpret. It’s the image of Santa that has survived throughout pop culture for the last few decades, but remember: Before Coca-Cola popularized Santa as wearing red, the good Father Christmas was usually depicted wearing blue or green.

My headcanon: DC Santa, like Superman, Supergirl, Zod, etc is Kryptonian. Kryptonians had interstellar exploration technology amongst other long before humans do in DC. Santa was an explorer who encountered a problem and crashed on Earth. With no way home or the technology even close to make repairs or contact anyone. He and his wife permanently shelter on earth with green Kryptonian crystals much like how the Fortress of Solitude was made. They soon discover they are developing the typical Kryptonian powers under the yellow sun of Earth. They show kindness and goodwill throughout the years and the rest was history. There is a Santa Claus movie made by Alexander and Ilya Salkind. The same people who made Superman 1-4 with Christopher Reeve as Superman/Clark Kent

Makes sense to me, Santa has multiple origins in DC just like he does in real life. Multiple historical figures such as the saint and the sorcerer added to the legend of Santa, which then became a concept and took form in the Dreaming. As the Dreaming exists outside of time and space, the legends and dreams fed each other until Santa basically became a minor god. Due to different countries having different interpretations, this happened multiple times. Plus any dream that dies is pretty much reborn at some point. The only real outliers are the Kryptonian/alien and the evil Lobo one. I'd guess the first was inspired by the mythical Santa, and the other was some form of nightmare, or a corruption of the Krampus.

My personal theory is that Santa is a new god/speedster/batman drunk on eggnog. BECAUSE HE’S BATMAN.

Maybe Santa is a primordial force of the universe and takes several avatars in each universe

I imagine the DC character version of (SANTA CLAUS) is not a mutant, but instead I imagine that he is a powerful sorcerer, and I imagine that SANTA has a secret identity of his own, when he is not delivering Christmas Gifts to almost everyone.

I think he exists as a concept rather than an actual living being. That would explain the multiple interpretations depending on the point of view.

Kinda sounds like Santa is a strong enough belief that it gets manifested into reality, but only ephemerally, it's not a permanent fixture of reality, except for it's memetic form.

I like to imagine that Santa Claus is just the specter blower off some steam

Was always a fan of the Santa that fucks with Darkseid. Seeing as how Darkseid is the God of Evil it would make sense that a spirit of yearly goodwill and generosity would want to troll him.

I think the Santa that Black Adam fought with is probably the best and most unique take on the character.

Fun fact: the resurrected kids story is an actual part of the real world St. Nicholas lore. As the story goes, he was passing by a butcher shop one day and mystically noticed that the butcher had killed some kids and stuffed them in a pickling barrel. So he brought them back to life and punished the butcher (though I forget how).
