Attention landlords: If you want to get around this have an open house open to everyone and just have people fill out the applications and tell them you'll get back to them because you have to review all applications and you've had several people come before them, and if they don't take it you'll get back to them And then rent to whoever you want. Its your right

This is what sets the US apart from the rest of the highly developed world. We don't recognize housing as a human right. I used to volunteer in a shelter for homeless families, and even the most hardworking, respectable residents had a terrible time getting housing so they could get back on their feet because of affordable housing shortages. Without stable housing, kids' schooling takes a big hit. There are all kinds of problems that are a result of homelessness.

Nice comparison with section 8 & food stamps. (EBT) Retailers that sell food don't get slammed for refusing to take EBT, they don't have to accept EBT, their prices aren't set by the EBT program, nobody from EBT comes to inspect the food to see if it's safe to eat, & they get paid at the cash register, not mailed a check a month or two later after the food is bought, which may or may not even be for the right amount, or any of the other BS that goes on with the Section 8 program. If EBT was like Section 8 no stores would want to take it either.

Simple solution. Cities take over abandoned buildings. Buy materials for renovation. Teach Section 8 recipients a building trade and put them to work on places they will live. They learn a sustainable skill which gets them off social services. They get a place to live. Neighborhoods get revitalized. Healthy, able bodied people who refuse to participate don't qualify for Section 8. Small landlords don't get burdened with apathetic tenants and ridiculous expectations.

I am no landlord, but no one should pay for someone else's housing. When I was in college, I was rejected by several landlords because I look young. Later, I got a job working as an apartment manager paying partial rent. In 3 months, my boss promoted me to manage 2 apartments and I got free rent with extra income. If you are willing to work hard and not expect a handout, America is the land of opportunity. Today, I am a millionaire before age 50. I had no family, single, and no government assistance. Hard work and integrity play a huge role in being successful. Stop taking short cuts and just get a job, work hard and serve others.

That should have been fought in court! Intrusion of private property is against the US Constitution. No one anywhere should be forced to participate in a program that is designed to be voluntary. Besides that, they need to limit the number of years on the program for all who are not disabled or elderly on fixed income. Most people abuse the program raising kids who only grow up learning how to use the system with generations repeating the free for me entitlement attitude. People should be made to be responsible not given a pahtway to a free lifestyle, they are parasites. Housing in not a human right. There are X number of houses available. Just because someone wants one doesn't mean that the Govt is required to provide it. By definition, "human rights" MUST be provided by a Govt. If I were to stop working and sit on my butt, the Govt cannot refuse to provide me with any human rights. So why bother working if the Govt must provide it? That is why housing, food, and medical care cannot be human right: they are a scare resource that must be paid for and are not always available in the quantity needed or desired. Thus, Govt cannot provide those things even if they WANT to and can somehow scrounge up (i.e. print) tons of money. Printing/confiscating $10 Trillion dollars doesn't cause one more housing unit or doctor to magically pop into existence. All Govt can do is provide some assistance to help pay for the labor of those who are willing and able to provide those goods and services. Requiring someone to work or provide something to you is the textbook definition of slavery, even if it is paid. At best, we might call it unwilling indentured servitude. . Props to you for calling out many of the problems with Sec 8! I had thought of many of them already, but I hadn't thought of the tax implication of Section 8 as "income." I wonder how the landlord's lawyers fail to miss this in trial? Maybe an activist judge ignored or overruled common sense. An appeal should be filed. . In addition, Section 8 income is not "guaranteed rent." There are many reasons that the Govt can decide to withhold rent for frivolous reasons, such as a minor maintenance issue. Or something stupid like a Govt shut down. Furthermore, if a person is so poor they cannot pay their rent, odds are they can't pay for any damages done. We all know that many times there are damages at move-out. Govt won't pay those either. Folks with W-2 jobs can have their wages levied. Sec 8 will never pay a dime of damages or unpaid rent. Some of these issue also apply to other source of income, such as Social Security and pensions which are judgment proof. . Requiring LLs to participate in Section 8 is unconstitutional. Anyone who invests in an area with these rules needs to sell and get out of that market.

Had they not, they wouldn't be a fine and the lady losing her license etc would not be happening. They were fleecing the voucher tenants with extra charges and the HA for that matter and those charges only applied to voucher holders. That was rather stupid even if they on average paid more to ready the unit for the next tenant. They could have just set the price to rent higher than what section 8 voucher holders were allowed to pay for a unit and problem solved. This company violated the fair housing act laws and is paying a hefty fine for it as they should imho. Housing may not be a human right, but fair housing is!

Housing is a human right because it is fundamental to human dignity, security, and well-being. It provides essential shelter and safety, reducing risks to health and protecting against violence. Housing creates a stable base that allows people to pursue education, employment, and community participation. Ultimately, access to housing is vital for ensuring everyone has the opportunity to lead a secure and dignified life.

@@claudettedoyley9056 People are suffering in America while the wicked make their wealth by stealing from struggling Americans. GPS tell her how many times you prevent me from working. Sometimes people are not working through no fault of theirs. I want the Labor department to ask OTG why I am out of work. Right now I need a good paying cooking job.
