Excellent! do these devices (always) shut off both poles? ie for 4 DC strings, would 8 conductors be disconnected..........or just 4? Thanks

you do a great job on your videos. We have the 8 pole version of this up at the house so we can turn the ground-mount array off from the house.

I'm assuming that if you are looking using combiner boxes for a 48V system that has 4 separate sets of panels wired in series you will have to use two of these switches?
@SignatureSolar7 ай бұрын
The IMO has 2x + and 2x - As long as you have no more than that leaving the combiner box, and the V and A is within specs, it should be fine.

Can you use crimped ferrels in the switch terminal? Common practice? Does the box come with the glands?
@unionse7en7 ай бұрын
@@stevenp540 no, if you can when you enter the IMO box, do so from the bottom...best for water rejection. It's also common to mount these below an enclosure (short connection of two boxes together) , you can use a rain tight conduit hub, at the lower end (waterproof) and then thread into it a the top with a chase nipple from inside . Inside a n IMO is also a good place to make the transition from exposed PV wires to THHN for your home run in conduit. Use a crimp ferrule on the THHN since it could be around 14 gauge many times. 3/4" rain tight hubs are the largest that will fit. Use up to 4 for wire room. Can also connect your array EGC (usually bare #6 ) to THHN EGC inside the box.. there is a terminal for that inside. Also don't forget both + and (-) get interrupted for the required ,improved, arc extinguishing.

@@stevenp540 yes, no, and no. Use ferrules - you don't want a stray wispy wire arcing to another stray wispy wire after you squint and cram the bushy end into the terminal. Sure it''s an extra 7.5 seconds of work and will cost you another 10 cents, but try and go the extra mile. Pretty sure you will need your own glands sized to your wire.

Does this device count as the rapid shutdown?
@SignatureSolar3 ай бұрын
Yes

@@SignatureSolarcan you confirm this as this does not have individual panel shutdown? Doesn't rapid shutdown by code have to have individual panel shutdown? Thx love y'all's videos

Ground connections continue on its own path?
@trashlordxx18937 ай бұрын
The ground on the switch is optional. It grounds strictly the switch. Industry standard and best practice is to ground the PV array to its own DC earth ground rod and ground the switch to this same earth ground rod if you want to.
@SignatureSolar7 ай бұрын
Yes, the ground switch is optional :)

not a fan of those top glands and those connectors, no drip loops possible. away from the box. Wish they would make those boxes larger for more wire room.

I have a large number of DC uninterruptible power supplies for sale here, welcome to inquire.
@jensschroder82147 ай бұрын
Switch off the DC while the high current is flowing there? Crazy! This will cause you to draw an arc across the switch contacts. DC does not have a zero crossing like AC, so the switch quickly becomes unusable. The right way is to turn off the AC first, then you won't have a current on the DC side.
@chadseld7 ай бұрын
That’s why this switch is has such a loud clack when switching on and off. It’s has a large contact that slams together and slams apart with very strong spring and with a lot of speed.
