output of 480 va, how you will you connect this with topcon panel max power output is 480, there will be power clipping issues there will be loss when micro inverters are used

A microinverter with each solar panel, is less reliable than just solar panels, so having many on your roof is not as reliable in general, and replacing a microinverter means getting on your roof.

So who is going to install these things to make sure a homeowner wont screw something up .and does this have to have internet in order to work
@SignatureSolar
@SignatureSolar 5 сағат бұрын
Hi! We recommend hiring a licensed electrician experienced in solar installations to ensure everything is set up correctly and safely. As for internet connectivity, it’s not always required for the system to work, but having internet allows for better monitoring and access to advanced features, like remote diagnostics and performance tracking. If you have more questions, let us know!

That was a ton of information, thank you for that interview! With the one wire system and all of the sensors and logic, can you now do load-side AC coupling? i.e. microinverter panels on your garage that can back-feed to your gridboss at your house

Also love hearing that 6 flexbosses and 2 gridbosses can share a battery bank! Makes it so simple to create your own 400 amp system, with 400 amp becoming more normal especially with a bigger home and a garage/shop

Why can’t these batteries be laid flat? I was hoping to use them under a floor and would need some that can be laid down. I know the manual says they need to be stored upright but I’m wondering why?
@SignatureSolar
@SignatureSolar 3 күн бұрын
The internal components are mounted/supported by brackets, etc, for the unit to be stored upright and if you were to lay it flat. Those components could then detach or bend and possibly cause the unit to stop working.

Seems like it could be good for a small off-grid place. Based on James' comments, I think a grid-tie 400a service would be much more difficult with it. Probably better with 18kPVs and SPAN.

I'm thinking as James whips through all the numbers off the top of his head (input, output, amps this, watts that) that you guys could have some white board diagram showing ALL the connection ports of the units and show the min and max #'s of input and output. That way we would SEE what James intuitively knows. Too much, too fast. You market to DIY'ers, yet James is like an Indy car.

What inverter product does EG4 have that is legal in California and can be installed between the meter and branch circuit breakers such that grid can be fed to the breakers when no solar or battery are available, but solar or battery are not fed back to the grid? My understanding is that some inverters do this but not at the absolute 100% "no back feed" level that is required. Also, there is proper industry vocabulary for these issues, product functions, and perhaps you can fill me in. Thx!

@SignatureSolar your products are definitely on the top of my list for future off grid situations....right now though I need to power an off grid trailer....i have narrowed it down to an Ecoflow dura 3, Anker Solix f3800, or Mango 5000. For the 50amp capabilities.

I wonder about this as well. I currently have Generac with ATF and a Solark 15k. I split them apart because the solark would try to sell to grid when grid was disconnect by Generac ATF.

I guess I'm at a loss in the cost savings and complexity world. It still feels to me that the main point of all this tech is to be off grid. So I'm not clear why adding complexity and cost.

This is a great setup for those of us that are grid tied and also need to place inverter and batteries in a garage over 100ft from the meter. They just came out with the 12000XP... may be a better solution for simple off-grid needs.

It’s like you split the 18KPV into two components, boosted the power a bit and gave it a new name. Not that there is anything wrong with that!! I kind of like the idea of having one component on the wall better than two.

For those of us who dont have room at or near the Grid in (meter) and need to place the inverter and batteries in a garage that is 100 feet away this is a great solution. Don't have to loop 200 amps. I can install the GridBOSS at the meter and FlexBOSS21 in the garage with batteries. Only need to run Flexboss21 output to the GridBOSS. Plus you get rid of a bunch of different components that are built into the GridBoss. Easier and cleaner install.

I just don’t understand why not 200 amp transfer switch on the flex boss
@joshomary7977
@joshomary7977 5 күн бұрын
Because thats basically what the EG4 18kPV is. If you need multiple inverters then you a paying multiple times over for a transfer switch you don't need. By separating them you get more flexibility and are only paying for what you need. Like in my case I have to install inverter and batteries in the garage that is over 100ft from the meter (grid-in). If I use an inverter that has a built in 200 amp transfer switch I would have to loop 200 amps over 100 feet each way. That a huge cost. With the Gridboss I would only need to run a single 6awg wire from the FlexBOSS21 to the GridBOSS.

Thanks for the video. Do I understand it correctly that the Grid/Flex combo requires fewer external components and associated labor? Does it bring the total cost of the system closer to one based on the 18KPV?

I’m interested in more of these integrated smart breakers in your off grid focused inverters. I’d love to dump all excess solar through an electric boiler to put additional heat into my slab foundation or run multiple mini splits at certain states of charge. The newer smart load centers don’t do much for us off grid guys if they arnt talking to our batteries.

EG4, if you're listening, your next innovation should have a DC smart port with an EVSE addon. This would enable DC charging to an EV bypassing any need for an inverter and conversion losses. 🙏🏽

Can GridBoss be used with a 100amp breaker, only see CSR2200N in the specs? Want to feed 100amp from main panel to grid boss that now goes to a sub panel. This will allow me to backup all critical loads in sub panel as well as have smart loads (EV, water heater, etc). Can't sell back here so will only use in off grid mode but the flexibility of the grid-boss makes setup and expansion so much easier.

I need a setup/demo video comparing and contrasting potential on grid setups with this vs the 12 and 18k. He makes fair points with less conduit and wiring but I’m not sold. If you see it as next level then please build it, demonstrate, and compare real-world numbers.
