A look at a DC energy meter i got from ebay for £8, £6 if you get it from china. Want it for a PSU project im building. Ideal for anyone charging LiPo batteries.

I bought a cheap one of these from AliExpress. The specs are off what is stated. The min detection voltage (w/o aux power) is really around 7 volt (and not 4 as stated). I needed this for a 1S system so had to figure out the aux power connector. The one closer to the notch is -ve and the middle is the +ve though it doesn't appear to be connected to anything - perhaps the other side of the PCB has a trace on it. Also the unit does not turn on until aux power reaches about 7 volt. If on aux power I was able measure down to 2 volt and didn't test lower than that. However the amp reading was not registering - need to test some more.

I think if you measure those Auxiliary Power Pins when it was powered up you could determine what pin is what.

Or use the beep on a multimeter

I have 2, the circuit boards are a bit different but still has the same basic layout. For the 3 pin connector the pin near the notch is ground but unsure of the other 2 at this stage (assume one is positive and one a reset pin for counters). The bottom pcb in mine is colored blue and has a 4 hole header area (looks like maybe a uart or some type of interface). I was hopping to be able to get some remote logging data out of it via uart, i2c, spi or something. The top LCD pcb has a blob chip but the bottom is all consumer parts by the looks. I have 2 maybe I should separate one and take a further look.

I had purchased three units from china. one must have shorted out. I am no longer getting anything on screen. Thank you for the disassembly video. I was wondering what was inside. Wish they has things fused.

I had two from aliexpress. Both stopped working when i tested on 24 volt 30 amps solar power. Display ran out. Anyway to repair it?

Possibly not as i bet they use the blob type chip.

Salvage Time. That LCD display could be used for a Arduino project. Nice little project case too. LOL
