Spoiler/Theory Time: The Question in the New 52 (the one in Trinity of Sin not Vic Sage who was with the Suicide Squad) is Rorschach. Dr. Manhattan put him in the current DC universe which he created because he really didn't want to kill him at end of Watchman and arranged it so his memories would be wiped (as seen happening to the question in Trinity of Sin #0) and Mr. Oz who talks to Pre-52 Superman in Rebirth #1 is Ozymandias somehow...or is that to easy?

It's not too easy, it's too complicated. It's a Rube Goldberg, in my opinion. I'd be happy if the only Watchman that made a crossover into the main DCU was Dr. Manhattan. The rest of them could stay (and die) in their original universe, and it would make perfect sense.

So let me get this straight: DC, acknowledging that New 52 was a disaster that people don't like but because its basically a big elseworld story, has decided to reboot again. Their way out? If you look at the actual history of comics you would find that the "blame" they are giving to Manhattan isn't misplaced because today's biggest complaint is that DC is too dark and gritty and always trying to be overly edgy and the reason is because everyone has been trying to recreate that from Watchmen. Read the article about it on Newsarama its someting like "DC's new optimism vs Watchmen's old cynicalism"

Watchmen hit when either when I was in high school, or like the first year out when I was still working in a comic shop. For all the crap given to Snyder, I actually thought he did the franchise justice. When the mini series was first hitting, it was like Camelot 3000. They would miss shipping months, and unlike the aforementioned title, there was so much bouncing around in story timeline, I grew to dislike it.

wildevil mostly old school DC fans. Personally I didnt have that many problems with it (though I had a few for sure), but while it attracted alot of new people, they were more fairweather fans and eventually jumped ship. This meant that DC lost quite a bit of their core audience and didnt keep alot of their new audience so sales plummeted. Meanwhile Marvel put out new # 1s every month and started to slaughter them. So they started Rebirth in an attempt to not only bring new fans in, but also bring back the fans they lost.

Noj776 If your referring to the box office draw of watchmen, that doesnt mean much. Plenty of really good movies did not even break even at the box office, Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Citizen Kane, Blade Runner, to name a few. It really comes down to audiences being fickle about what they spend their money on and has no reflection whatsoever on how the film performed. And if you're referring to Marvel's recent boost in sales? A decade ago they were bankrupt, I mean why do you think the company is divided? Fox and Disney rescued them and turned out to be a good investment for both. I wouldnt worry about DC's market audience as seen by BVS's performance despite negative attacks. The line up until 2020 can only get better with Geoff Johns now on board.

The Watchmen were originally were analogs of the Charlton Comics characters. When DC bought them in 60's (70's?) they kept their original tone of the books. Alan Moore wanted to use these characters, but DC said no. Moore and Dave Gibbons made their own based on them. Dr. Manhattan/ Captain Atom, Nite-Owl/ Blue Beetle, Rorschach/ the Hood and ,of course, the Comedian/ Peacemaker.

It's tough to decide. on one hand as stated, Watchmen is such a classic series, like the dark night series, DC shouldn't have done this crossover cause it could be extremely difficult to piece these two universes into one crossover especially for the plot. its hard to describe why it could be bad cause one mistake and its all over. TO sum it up, it could be another watchmen movie equivalent disaster. On the other hand, it is extremely interesting on how two different universes could have some effect one each other, one way or another. how one event in one series could indirectly cause another one. What is Dr. Manhattan planning? What did he do to create this continuity or timeline. What happened with the watchmen that would cause the flashpoint paradox, the trinity war, the darksied war. what if the events in watchmen affected the heroes. they were once lose, but then they changed, superman lost his powers, there was a new batman, what if the darkness from one universe seeps to another and is sickening it. these questions are what makes reirth interesting. To end this lets just see what happens

I find it interesting that Watchmen is being folded into the universe that spawned it. Moore originally created the story with DC characters, but they weren't comfortable with their characters participating in that story, so he created new characters. I'd love to see Watchmen's Owlman meet Ted Kord/Blue Beetle, or bring back Rorshack to meet the Question.

I have a theory about Watchmen okay watchmen is a alternate timeline of earth 4 at some point in time the timelines diverged that happened at the same time that comics like the flash and superman stopped being sold in the watchmen universe the newspaper stand guy remarks that they used to publish like flash-man(he probably meant the flash) and superman. I say this is when the timelines diverge because in the dc universe comic books are just peaks into other universes (this was first looked at during the flash of two earths and expanded on in Flash: Fact or Fiction and Multiversity and Convergence) but when the watchmen universe stopped having comic books that where about the multiverse it was no longer a part of it. Alternate timelines are alternate versions of certain earths it's harder for them to contact the main multiverse. They are usually things like new continuities, re-imaginings and non-canon things.

Did anyone else notice the watchmen imagery in this issue? Obviously there was the badge and the prologue/ epilogue, but more subtle things. For example, 'giant bug' that mr. Kord made looks awfully Similar to niteowls owl ship, and in the end of chapter 2 where the woman explodes in a manner almost identical to dr. Manhattan during his accident. It's clear that dr. Manhattans own life and experiences is influencing the universe he's tampering with. Really interested to see where they'll go with this.

Our Captain Atom is nothing like the original from the 80's and to me is basically a completely different character. I'm pretty sure when he was integrated into the DC universe they purposely lowered his abilities because of the fact he was basically a god but Manhattan is based on the original which is why the two seem so different today.

He most certainly had nothing to do with how New 52 started; that was caused by Barry Allen and Pandora during Flashpoint, which basically reset the universe. the flashpoint event DID cause the New 52. BUT in this issue (that just came out today) we found out via Wally West that Dr. Manhattan is ACTUALLY what caused the new 52 DURING the flashpoint event.

+AWE5OMEANT You can read all the crisis and then flashpoint and then rebirth, but to truly get this rebirth you need to read flashpoint and a bit knowledge of pre flashpoint is optional.

its not a complete reboot .DC hardcore fans were disappointed with the new 52 cause it left out a lot of the characters fans of DC for years loved like the old wally west.So rebirth is a way to bring these old characters back

Hey, i'm not that familiar with comics, as the most of you guys here. So my question, will it be possible just to go for the Superman and Batman Comics, or are they all so connected that you need to read every issue in every series? I will go for the One-Shot as well.

Depending on the book you might benefit from reading other series but if you only want to read Batman and Superman you're more than able to do so. Getting into cics isn't nearly as difficult as it seems. If a comics feels you shluld know something important from another book it will usually tell you. When comics are written right then you can just read the book you want to read without the others and it will fill in the blanks when necessary. When they're written poorly then you'll sometimes find a story in one particular book not making any sense in and of itself without essential tial info from another separate book. Interconnected comics are great but when it's handled properly you are usually free to read only the books you want.
