DC Rivals Hypercoaster is an incredible roller coaster at Warner Bros. Movie World in Australia. This Mack mega coaster features a masterful layout blending airtime hills and turns. And the coaster most famously features a backwards row that adds a whole new dimension! This is the best coaster in Australia, but is it one of the world's best coasters? Find out in this review!

This introduced what Mack can really do. Full masterpiece, a non inverted loop, vertical twisting drop, ejector airtime, positive Gs... Absolutely crazy how good the layout is and how many elements it has, when we see more Mack Hypers, specifically in America and Europe, I think they will be some of the best coasters in the world.

DC Rivals is my #1 Coaster, for the sole reason I’ve never left Australia. Though personally I think it’s a contender for the worlds best coaster, but I might just be biased because it’s in Australia. This is probably the best review of the ride on the internet. I have done it backwards at Movie Worlds Halloween event fright nights, the on,y way to describe that was absolute chaos. Glad that you got to ride it and enjoyed it:)

@@CanobieCoaster I think they wanted it glass smooth and maybe it was slightly not, that's all I can think of.. but to someone who has ridden almost 500 coasters, and you well over 1000, we know what ROUGH is. Rough is what Ghost Rider was in 2016 before refurb (for example). So if it had a slight vibration I probably just didn't notice it. I bet you that's all it was, a passing vibration on that hill that meant it wasn't 100% glass from start to finish. But I didn't notice anything.

I've sorta hated on DC Rivals in the past (I had it at number 3 for a while, after Superman Escape and Leviathan) but I recently got my 10th ride on DC Rivals, and I can say, it has come full circle. This was my first coaster and I'm so proud that this is at my home park. I would say forwards isn't quite as good as Superman or Leviathan but backwards makes the difference. When the forwards facing rows receive airtime, in back you feel like you're freefalling. Such an insane experience, and part of me fears if it'll ever be topped. I've done Leviathan backwards but it just doesn't come close. I hope these rows are added to much more rollercoasters in the future.

Backwards/Spinning rows as a Upcharge are a genius inclusion on Mack rides, it’s printing the park free money. DC rivals looks unreal and Australia is lucky to have something this good that’s mostly unique in the world… That is until my country gets one next year, and I cannot wait for Project Exodus. It’s elements look insane and I trust it to fully live up to the hype despite the short length

Exodus looks INCREDIBLE.. So many top notch elements one after another. If that rendering is anything to go by thus far, it will be a top 5 worldwide for me and will easily crush DC Rivals. Going purely by what I have seen, it's not even a comparison, just a different class of coaster. I guess Mack weren't that adventurous back then but there would have been no issue building that where Rivals is. Still, gotta be happy with what we have! That said, I wish we were getting an RMC instead of the 3 family coasters coming to Movie World next year... Such a big space of land that could have had a world class custom hybrid, OR, they could have been *really* clever and done the one Vekoma suspended family coaster they are planning (good idea as only one other suspended coaster in the entire State), and instead of doing 2 boomerangs also, they could have made a custom RMC Raptor intertwining with the family suspended. So the area then gets one family coaster and one thrill coaster, perfect, instead of 3 family. Doesn't make sense to me but what do I know. I think something to appeal to more broad an audience is always better, I mean they already have 2 family coasters with Scooby Doo and the Vekoma roller skater called Road Runner.. They don't need 3 more. What do you think? Just off topic on a tangent but curious.

Exodus is a little short, but it's about the same length as Nemesis and only a few seconds shorter than Zadra, and neither of those felt too short to me. I find shortness is much more noticeable if the ride is mediocre anyway. Frankly I'm just happy that we're actually getting something impressive in the UK - its been a long time.

12:37 To answer your question about whether the ride's large camelback had a rattle to it, I know my predictions aren't very credible as I did not ride it at the time, but while they changed the top of the camelback, I think they also made significant changes to the small section before the camelback and just as you reach the ground after the first drop (around where you get your photo taken). I say this due to brief descriptions from other individuals who rode and reviewed the coaster in 2017, but if you search for ride video reactions provided to guests by the park released around this time, you'll also find that the cameras attached to the back of the seats caught the element to be rattly and mildly rough. I'm glad they changed it though. Glad you had fun and good video 👍

When I went there in 2019, it was the quite less for the backrow seats. But I really enjoy the ride. Did it a few times before I started feeling sick XD. Other than the ride itself, the queue options were the best thing to add to the park. I was traveling with my dad but due to his age, I was the only one that went on that ride so being a single rider and having their own queue really helps because it does save time for the staff having to call out for single riders to come forward like in the Superman ride.

With the first hill, the issue is there was a bit of a kink at the bottom of the first drop and the track just never lined up that well between two adjacent segments . The track wasn't replaced, but rather they tweaked the bolting at each column and drifted several segments in a row on that hill to 'absorb' the difference.

WOW, it's 30 AUD now for the back. It used to be 25 and that was already nuts! That's INSANE for one ride. It should be 10 bucks MAX, and 5 for say happy hour. I find that ludicrous Mike and something that's only ever worth doing one time (which is all I ever did, same with spinning seat on Steel Taipan but I have yet to ride Leviathan) simply due to the cost - it's nonsensical and means the back row is wasted for most of the time. Just as our Express line passes are also nonsensically priced. Ludicrous actually. I don't know if they have changed this also, but I couldn't pick my row when I was there a few years back either (edit, just saw more of the vid and it's sadly still the same, sigh). This is a big flaw in the general EU and AU park system that is SO much better in American parks and why I enjoy visiting them so much, because you can automatically line up for the row you want on *almost* every coaster in the country. Almost. This doesn't exist on any coaster in Australia. It's crazy. And is very uncommon in EU as well, as you know. I don't know why they think this is more efficient, which is why they do it, cause it's actually not and just adds another element of extra time to the boarding procedure. Anyway, mandates are lifted in May so I can finally come back to US so have changed my trip this year from EU to a US trip (lucky nothing was booked yet lol), I will do EU in 2025. US is just a much cheaper overall vacation when everything is added up and I can finally get to do VelociCoaster and Lightning Rod and the like, and I can't wait! Maybe see you then. I'm coming for an entire 2 months! Cheers.
@CanobieCoaster

I don't mind assigned seating as long as it's efficient and there's flexibility in row selection. On the efficiency point, I noticed a lot of the groupers in Australia also were checking restraints, which would slow things down. That system works in Europe since they have separate positions most of the time. I agree the back seats are expensive. As an enthusiast who wasn't sure when he'd be back, I was willing to pay it. But I noticed they often went out empty at Sea World and Movie World. The spinning seat had much more frequent use at Dreamworld.

@@CanobieCoaster I am looking forward to your review of ST as I am so curious to know how it compares to a ground up Mack extreme spinner. I liked it a lot but found the coaster merely adequate in the forward facing rows (6.5/10 for forward rows vs something like Helix which I give a 9/10 to in any row), and excellent in the spinning seat which is also enhanced by its placement so far back (I rate it 9/10 for spinning row alone). Again I only did it once though. Too expensive to do multiple times. I can buy a US nationwide six flags premium pass LOL for the same price as a few rides on the 'special' rows of those three Aussie coasters. Really puts it into perspective.
@teddym2808

@@CanobieCoaster My issue with assigned seating is that I almost always want the back except for very few coasters, and ALL coasters should have a front row line even if the rest is assigned, as everyone should be guaranteed a front row ride if they are willing to wait. Otherwise it's just blatantly unfair and I LOVE how the big coasters in the US often even have an entirely separate FR entrance queue. If you want to wait, you get your front row. That's fair.

No need to have the back seat on both trains face in reverse when the uptake to use it is so low overall (relatively speaking). Is Leviathan rough? I am going to ride it ASAP before my trip to the states later in the year. I want to ride it before it deteriorates as gravity group woodies get rough fast vs something like a GCI. I suppose Mike will go into detail about that in his coming review though, but I am just hoping it's not a really rough one as I am hanging out for it, and although I can handle a rumble, I hate actual "rough" if that makes sense.

@@teddym2808 yeah makes perfect sense. Leviathan is "lively", but I can see it getting rougher over time. I did it in Feb and going over again next month for more rides on it. I've been on some rough Gravity Group wooden coasters like Mine Blower (which was great in first year but now it's terribly rough) and also Switchback at ZDTs. Leviathan is super smooth compared to those. GCI's tend to take longer to get rough, but I think it's more to do with their trains handling the roughness better. Last time I went to BGT the newest ride was Sheikra so there's a lot there for me too. Hanging out for the Texas six flags parks also. If I can fit in Lake Compounce for Boulderdash I will, but I may not get to this time. I have 60 days but I want to relax and drive like I did last time, at my pace, my leisure, and do quality over quantity. I am 50yo so this is my 50th Bday present to myself LOL.

It's really good, but is it the best coaster in Australia though? It has the stats for it for sure. It's probably my first or second most ridden coaster, so the wow factor has worn off unfortunately. It's also quite inconsistent in how fast it runs, so at times it's floater at best over the first hill. I agree the drop is really good, but Kondaa's is better, as well as the first camel back hill. The non inverting loop is a fizzer for me and feels like a bit of filler element. It does look cool though. DC Rivals to me is a mix of Kondaa, EGF and Flying Aces. I'd take it over EGF, but Kondaa and Flying Aces are superior in my opinion.

@@StamfordBridge Flying Aces is overshadowed by the less superior Formula Rossa, because it doesn't have the stats. It's actually quite similar to Superman Escape taking the hype backseat with DC Rivals in the park. At the end of the day people will have their own opinions and you know mine lol.

The non-inverting loop was awesome for me. The weakest parts for me were in the middle. Still decent to good, but not as elite as other elements.

The ride seems very similar to EGF to me in terms of quality. I agree that Kondaa looks superior and said basically the back seat could possible be on par with that. I also find it interesting you have Flying Aces so high. I've seen where Hyperion or SkyRush or Phantom's Revenge or even Shambhala gets into the discussion before a ride like Flying Aces. But I would agree that Flying Aces looks far more interesting than Formula Rossa.
@marty_nz

@@alantrotter2077 Flying Aces is probably the closest coaster in design to DC Rivals with the main "gimmick" being the non inverting loop. The length, speed and height are similar overall, yet it beats DC Rivals with each statistic. Kondaa is a perfect example though that you dont need that hyper height for the elements to hit perfectly.

$30?! IIRC, it was $10 when it opened in 2017. I rode it 5 times backwards and 15 times forward in October 2017. I had no idea they replaced a section of the airtime hill. The entire coaster was actually pretty rough if you were anywhere besides the front car. Especially the mid 3rd with all the turns. But I didn't find the hill more rough than the rest of the ride. It was honestly surprising to hear you thought the entire ride was smooth. Maybe it is broken in? For reference: Ive ridden over 400 coasters.
