That fake out outward banked turn that turns into a barrel roll down drop looks like total madness. What I really like about this layout is that proves that tight space with frequent turnarounds doesn't mean you have to just have overbanked turns, high G force turns and dive loops/Immelman turns. You can use that tight space to throw riders out of their seats.

Hyperia is definitely a masterpiece, some of its elements are mind-blowing. I do think the duration holds it back from being one of my personal favorite coasters, but my front row ride was unforgettable.

Yeah it’s way too short. Reminds me of pantheon somehow. I guess because the very few elements it has are all great
@iliketrains35463 ай бұрын
I don’t understand how rude duration is a negative. It has similar duration to other coasters like zadra and Eejenaika but no one complains about those
@First-Drop-Studios3 ай бұрын
@@iliketrains3546 because those have more elements. Hyperia has 6 elements while Zadra has over 10. Hyperia feels shorter because all of the elements are huge and therefore taken at a slow pace. And people do complain about Eejenaika’s duration because of the fact it has very few elements.
@iliketrains35463 ай бұрын
@@First-Drop-Studios yeah but that works in their favour due to pacing. Sure, they could’ve removed the trim (which they should’ve done anyway) but the ride duration isn’t necessarily a negative as any more and smaller elements wouldn’t be nearly as good as the first four, therefore it may end up with a dead spot or two. It could definitely be longer, but I don’t really get how ride duration is a negative
@First-Drop-Studios3 ай бұрын
@@iliketrains3546 like I said the main problem is the lack of elements. Pantheon has a ride duration of over a minute but it feels way shorter since it only has 9 elements. Same with rides like Leviathan at Canada’s Wonderland or Orion at Kings Island. Then there’s rides like Velocicoaster with almost 20 elements and that ride feels like it’s so much longer than it is because of that.

12:38 I visited Thorpe for 2 days in a row last august, and Hyperia was closed the whole first day due to high winds. The rest of the park was fullly open. The next day, the wind was even more intense, but Hyperia was open. Idk how that works but I was happy to get 7 rides thanks to the single rider line. If you can, go ride that coaster, it instantly became my #1 coaster. It's an amazing ride, fantastic layout, pacing, speed, super intense first drop. It’s great to see you here in the UK! Hyperia is a great addition and that first drop it’s absolutely unreal. But there’s a lot of flaws with this project. The theming is nothing short of poor. It has a good vibe but it’s not really themed. A lot of people I rode with actually had no idea what the ride was about. Random words on the side of a shipping container is not theming. The actual ride is great but it does feel very short. But I did expect this from Merlin. They’ve seem to change their approach to the UK. A £20 per go fast track is very fitting for Merlin. Greed. Hopefully if universal opens it will destroy their monopoly over the UK.

Thorpe Park is my local and I've ridden Hyperia more than I'm willing to admit online. This is by far the best review of it. I've always thought it is frustratingly close to perfect, which unfortunately is a symptom of Merlin's prioritising shareholders over quality experiences. I can just about look past the theming, but when the train slams into the brakes you can't help but think there is so much wasted potential. As you've commented, the pacing is exceptional, elements are varied and unique and I love how it gracefully transitions from high positive to strong negative, especially in that outerbank. I think this is the reason why I don't rate many RMCs like Untamed as much as others as I don't find being slammed continuously into a small restraint particularly fun. On Hyperia, the airtime is strong but feels natural. I think this is testament to how skilled the designers at Mack are.

I still prefer forward-facing DC Rivals. Rivals is far smoother, a more complete and longer ride, and its dull moments aren't enough to kill the pacing. I was able to get my first post-Hyperia rides on DC Rivals, including a night ride, and Hyperia's better drop isn't enough to get me to consider this as the better coaster.
