Not a bad plan! That's why my parents named me KZbinr Whitwick (they had very low expectations)

Awesome job on the video and thanks for talking about Doctor Occult and Rose! However from which comic do this image at 11:03 comes from? Because the art tells me it’s a comic that could’ve came out recently

Hi Jay, thanks for asking! That particular picture would have been nabbed from The Books of Magic (2018), though I don't recall which issue specifically, hope this helps! 😄

A complex and original concept, foreshadowing a lot of Dr. Strange. Well done, Jerry and Joe. Interestingly, Joe's cousin Frank Shuster, of the comedy duo of Wayne and Shuster -- who racked up more appearences on Ed Sullivan than any other act -- named his daughter Rose. Rosie Shuster married Lorne Michaels and was a writer on SNL from the first season, later involved with another Canadian comedy star, Dan Ackroyd.

Whoa that's a tangled web! I took a hot minute to fact-check you because that seemed like such a strange 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon' moment, but that's true! And weird! True and weird!

@@crwhitwick Thanks, the Canadian version is 'Six Degrees of Back Bacon'.

HOW IN THE HELL HAS D.C. NOT MADE THIS INTO A MOVIE> IT IS THE PERFECT WAY TO START JAMES GUNN'S "GODS AND MONSTERS" - NOT WITH SUPERMAN BUT WITH DOCTOR OCCULT AND IN HIS MOVIE HE SEES AND KNOWS ABOUT THE CRADLE OF SUPERMAN AND MAYBE LIKE A WISE MAN (the bible) HE SEES IT HIT THE GROUND!!! - - - Makes it sound almost like they are cane and the female he meets also without them stating this and if I did the film that is the route I would take. Maybe she died but through time and many missions he got the manna to bring her back but still had to find her and when he did they decided to bond.

He actually predates DC. dr Occult came out in 1935. DC was created in 1937.

Hi there, Jamie! Sorry to contradict you, but DC Comics was originally a few different companies back in the day, the earliest of which was National Allied Publications, founded by Malcom Wheeler-Nicholson in 1934. While it's true that Doctor Occult came out in '35, the company that would eventually be seen as the collective DC Comics was already fully up and running :)

D.C. doesn't make nearly as much time on vampires as Marvel does

Having read DC vs Vampires, I can confidently say that Marvel does it better, yeesh!

he wasn't the first

While I'm not quick to agree with that statement, I'm willing to keep an open mind. Who would you consider to be DC's first superhero?
@hotpopcorncake5 ай бұрын
@@crwhitwick Indeed, he was the first in DC Comics. However, it's worth noting that he was not the first superhero in a broader context.
@crwhitwick5 ай бұрын
@@hotpopcorncake While the claim that they were DC's first superhero is true, it's also true that they were not the first superhero overall. Doctor Occult was preceded by Mandrake the Magician, who premiered in June 1934, over a full year before DC's Doctor Occult. He's considered by many to be the first comic superhero.

@@crwhitwick What about Ogon batto japan first made superhero.
@crwhitwick5 ай бұрын
@@hotpopcorncake A fair point, but Ōgon Batto is arguable from a timeline perspective. As far as comics/manga, they didn't premiere until 1947, but did appear as part of a traveling show in 1930. So it would essentially come down to: 1930: Ōgon Batto, the first superhero. 1934: Mandrake the Magician, the first comic book superhero. 1935: Doctor Occult, the first DC Comics superhero. 1947: Ōgon Batto premiers in manga. I'd like to say thank you for your counterpoints, I wasn't aware of Ōgon Batto until now, and I appreciate the learning opportunity 😄
