Vincent's life had been touched by all the Endless: His life, like everyone else's is written in the book of Destiny. Dream inspired him to be an artist. Desire made him want fame and met Despair when he couldn't get it. Delirium made him see his doubts. Destruction destroyed his flat. Death led him away

@Anime Beyonder speaking of Death Note, if she got to Light before Ryuk did, it'd be one of the few times she doesn't smile. Both because she hates when humans kill each other and because of the rules of the death note she can't even drag him to Hell for it. *Light:* I thought you were nice compared to the Shinigami, but I see you're no different. *Death:* You killed so many people Light!! If not for the rules of this damn book I'd send your egotistical ass to Hell. She would be a lot nicer to L and maybe Misa.

“Death has a body like a model, the clothes of a poet and the smile of your best friend. She wears a top hat for fun, her ankh necklace for power, and carries a big black umbrella for travelling to the 'sunless lands.' I wonder what she smells like? I'm sure it's fresh and clean and her laugh must be rinkly or maybe it's warm and chuckly, but whatever it is, Death laughs a lot. We talk about the 'miracle of birth' but what about the 'miracle of death'? We have the science of death pretty much figured out, but death's magic and inevitability have been feared and ignored for a long time now. What if Death is a person?” -Neil Gaiman

To let go is to forgo, to feel is to die, to live and love is to suffer, death has always been a beautiful muse in humanity, a tapestry of running emotions that ensnares and bounds us by our self, and to what we cling to, just like a child who is spoiled and doesn't want to let go of their new toy. There is no such thing as beauty of "child birth" because before the child is even conceived thier sorry was already written, as is their death. Because the sands of time flow regardless.

Not going to lie if you know the art scene that piece of arts value would skyrocket just for the story behind it, down on his luck artist, flunked out of art school, girlfriend left him, lost his job and living in a crappy apartment, drug addiction and right before he OD he draws a masterpiece which is the only surviving piece of art that burns down the apartment. Well, considering how Death gave him a gift as a child, personally came to visit him, and how his life ended in tragedy, I think he was an individual that she fell in love with (love isn’t necessarily only romantic). The Endless aren’t meant to fall in love with a mortal because that dooms the individual.

I love how the very end is left entirely to interpretation as to whether she actively did something to save that painting, or if it was just pure coincidence and she just knew it wouldn't burn. It's amazing how they depicted Death in this; a young woman with a dark, gothic appearance, but very warm and kind with an underlying air of sadness about her.

I would take it further that this feature happens after the Wake Arc in the Sandman. Vincent's description of his joy at creating such inspiring art would remind Her of Morpheus and Delight, and in that moment when Vincent begs Her to spare the painting, I wouldn't be surprised that She shed a single tear in that moment, remembering all the times she spent with her lost siblings, and making the decision to actually grant Vincents final wish.

She has no power. When Lucifer Morningstar made a new universe from scratch, the second he started the Endless showed up. They’re not a powered being, they are the living embodiment of what they are named after. To see Desire, is to only ever want them, to meet Dream, is to have an idea, a thought no one else has. And to meet Death is to have lived. They are everywhere, all at once, for everything. She’s watching both of us right now, while also being there for the baby that was born a mile from you, and the smoker who dies in the next city over, and for that one kid at the bridge, who was saved by a random stranger. She is inevitable for all things, and no matter when and where you are, she is right there with you.

That's actually shockingly beautiful to imagine the personification of death would want to give you a chance before crossing into the unknown to overcome your demons and get back in touch with the spark of joy and infinite possibility of childhood that was lost along the way. One can only hope we're granted a similar kindness instead of simply ceasing to be...mindless worms and bacteria devouring a carcass that once housed unfulfilled hopes and dreams.

I like to imagine her as being a representation of Samael, the angel of death. Even though it's her job to guide the souls of the dead to the afterlife, she is kind, compassionate, and sympathetic, and she doesn't judge those she guides to the afterlife. She understands them, perhaps even better than they ever understood themselves in some cases, and she empathizes with them when they are reeling from the realization that they are dead, even though there is nothing she can do to give them their life back no matter how much she might wish otherwise.

Death of the Endless is unironically my favorite portrayal of a Personification of Death in all of fiction, maybe because the idea of Death as something that not only holds no malice but is actually compassionate. Death not as something to be avoided, or an opponent to be overcome, but a friend waiting to greet you further down the road, it's comforting to say the least.

I think the best thing about this is that they didn't try to make this short film about the character Death into something that she isn't. She may be a comic book character, but she isn't a big villain or a great hero. She is the embodiment of death and nothing else. She isn't here to hurt anyone or save anybody. She is just here to help you move on and accept your death.

Gotta appreciate this scene on Deaths part. Instead of giving him the bad news right away she allowed him to live in the moment a little while longer to help him reform himself even if he was dead. Luckily it worked out both ways in the end. He's no longer haunted by his guilt and doubts and he no longer fears death (not the character kind of "death") because of what she's done for him.

A painting made by a ghost that has truly captured the very face of Death herself is an ultra rare thing for the history books. As a Catholic myself, I truly hope the Angel of Death aka the Grim Reaper is like this one. Peaceful, kind, and gentle that helps us on our journey at the end. P.S. She even reminds me of an ep from The Twilight Zone in where an old woman meets Death as a man and tells her that people r really afraid of the unknown when there's really nothing to worry about.

I'm always so happy to see them, I feel like I know them in a personal way it's like meeting an old friend. But they're never happy to see me. Wow this episode is a masterpiece of narration. For several years now and getting to the end of my studies, I've thought about writing a novel, composing music or becoming a movie director. But different forces at work always prevented me from reaching those goals (or maybe there are juste excuses ?) Either its work or smth else but it always feels like I dont have the time to comit to those things the way I want to. As someone struggling with depression issues, the image of the different demons tearing me down in every moment of my life is so accurate I litteraly had tears when he manages to paint Death itself. As he couldnt paint anything in Life, Death freed him from his mental prison. In the end, it's all about what you want to leave behind isnt it ? This reassuring beautiful and kind representation really is a fantasy for people stuck in a loneliness vicious circle, maybe we all have to meet our Death to realise what we're missing out on Life. Peace
