I would take it further that this feature happens after the Wake Arc in the Sandman. Something about the way death is animated fascinates me. Her facial expressions really make this short what it is imo. They could have gone just a normal "kind" look, but there's layers to her expressions and I love it.

The fact that she saved his painting is one of the nicest touch a story could have. Death is probably the most amazing comics character ever written, she loves everyone, she understands, she cares, yets she cannot relent and all fear her, even she being probably the nicest being in DC.

@@ellie-zl7ji At that moment she was basically talking with a child and sunless land might have not been the right thing to say. Apart from that sunless land was also just a placeholder for mystery anyway. After all she always asked people where they think they’re going.

I find myself wondering about humanity. Their attitude to my sister's gift is so strange. Why do they fear the sunless lands? It is as natural to die as it is to be born. But they fear her. Dread her. Feebly they attempt to placate her. They do not love her. Many thousands of years ago I heard a song in a dream, a mortal song, that celebrated her gift. I still remember it...

Okay, THAT's the painting! That IS! Saw this on another video, and WTF? This however, this is how this story deserved to end. This is what Vincent longed to paint his entire life, this is--and yes, it's a cliche, but it fits--hauntingly beautiful, eerily perfect.

Gotta appreciate this scene on Deaths part. Instead of giving him the bad news right away she allowed him to live in the moment a little while longer to help him reform himself even if he was dead. Luckily it worked out both ways in the end. He's no longer haunted by his guilt and doubts and he no longer fears death (not the character kind of "death") because of what she's done for him.

A painting made by a ghost that has truly captured the very face of Death herself is an ultra rare thing for the history books. As a Catholic myself, I truly hope the Angel of Death aka the Grim Reaper is like this one. Peaceful, kind, and gentle that helps us on our journey at the end. P.S. She even reminds me of an ep from The Twilight Zone in where an old woman meets Death as a man and tells her that people r really afraid of the unknown when there's really nothing to worry about.
@Elfenlied8675309 Жыл бұрын
She even has a quote from the comics that is pretty sweet along the lines of "I know everything about everyone, every single detail of their lives from the beginning to end. I'm always so happy to see them, I feel like I know them in a personal way it's like meeting an old friend. But they're never happy to see me. They're always angry, and confused and they blame me for what happened. I wish just once somebody would be happy to see me like i'm always so happy to see them."

Wow this episode is a masterpiece of narration. For several years now and getting to the end of my studies, I've thought about writing a novel, composing music or becoming a movie director. But different forces at work always prevented me from reaching those goals (or maybe there are juste excuses ?) Either its work or smth else but it always feels like I dont have the time to comit to those things the way I want to. As someone struggling with depression issues, the image of the different demons tearing me down in every moment of my life is so accurate I litteraly had tears when he manages to paint Death itself. As he couldnt paint anything in Life, Death freed him from his mental prison. In the end, it's all about what you want to leave behind isnt it ? This reassuring beautiful and kind representation really is a fantasy for people stuck in a loneliness vicious circle, maybe we all have to meet our Death to realise what we're missing out on Life. Peace

He valued his art far more than his own mortality. He accepted his death so quickly, but not the possibility of his last painting being burned to ashes... Regardless, all good things come to an end; even if it will take thousands of years for their demise. I do wonder if he had that in mind.
