This was a ton of fun, the guests were amazing! I like how much freedom this system allows, it looks like it's really easy to just bring character concepts to life and I like that very much. It was clear Luke and Chris were more familiar with the system, they breezed through combat with their combos. That 12 damage Guiding Bolt at level 1 was insane!

So, hearing the boulder made me immediately think of The Last Airbender and the boulder for that, which was funny because I played a one-shot character called The Fossil, which spoke like the boulder in Avatar, speaking in the third person, but was a super old monk, she he would generally sound and look decrepit until he pulls off his robes and is super ripped....oh, ya, he fights in essentially a diaper.

Great to see this in play. Some initial feedback from an outside perspective all with the caveat that this outside looking in on a first session for many: I was sceptical about the prime ability, but seeing Duke's Agi Wizard has turned me around on this. I do worry it may lead to characters defaulting to RP stats like Charisma (i forget the equivalent stat off the top of my head) so combat and social encounters are both covered, but that aside i think it's a good system in a ruleset without multiclassing. 4 AP is a lot of actions to juggle per turn. It does allow for a player to have a more complex turn, but it also (may) slow things down turn per turn. I'd be keen to see it reduced to 3 AP with some Movement Points added. This way characters are always assumed to be on the move during their turn (which is less punishing for melee characters) and it reduces the action management to three points only. It'd be a happy middle ground between 5es regimented 3 prescribed actions + movement and Pf2's flexible 3: flexible 3 +movement. I do however appreciate aspects like shared initiative and interactive features like easy help actions. The use of Damage reduction on top of Brutal Heavy and normal hits looks a bit cumbersome. I like Brutal and heavy a lot, but would recommend that Damage reduction be... Reduced? Some instances of it may be okay but as a core system it feels like it sliws things down. A system where your brutal and heavy thresholds are increased/decreased by armor/features feels like a way of potentially wrapping damage reduction into the armor without additional maths? General theme of my feedback: You've got a lot of great ideas on show in this alpha. I think they could do with some trimming and streamlining, but the core engine is sound. Great work on this coach!

As someone who _isn't_ a big fan of 5e, I think it's because this guy recognizes a lot of where 5e goes wrong and is actually trying to fix it, while still keeping the _vibe_ of 5e around. Somehow no one's done that yet. Project Black Flag is just an straight 5e clone in a bad way and while there's tons of other great games out there, none of them _quite_ fill the niche that 5e does.

Super excited to see the system in action. I like a lot of the ideas and want to playtest it, so this is perfect!! I am going to keep some notes to come back to, so feel free to ignore them. 1. I think vulnerability and vulnerable scores should work the same in virtually all ways except the amount of damage they do. 2. I love the idea of using whatever skill is appropriate for initiative, but it somehow feels a little forced/slow. Maybe I will give a default option to my players like awareness and just let people decide in the moment if something else feels more appropriate. Then they can incorporate that flavor in the description of the first turn. I think this is important because the escalation towards the "Role initiative" is a super fun moment at the table that feels a little undermined, by asking each player what they are doing at this exact moment. 3.chris seemed confused on what counted as an attack or being targeted for the purposes of his reactions and I agree that I didn't intuitively got that either. Is there some standardised marker? Like every roll against your physical defence qualifies as a trigger for your defensive maneuvers for example. 4.

As a system I'm very excited for this system and this was a great demonstration!! Some points of feedback: Initiative takes too long and it seems distracting and confusing to roll twice for the same check, like in the case of attacking the animated armor. I would prefer if agility was the default initative as in D&D (even if there's a framework for rolling something else) because going first is every agile character's dream. I'm not certain if you're supposed to be intended to reroll with an action point afterwards, or just grant advantage in advance. It should be the latter; the former is FAR too powerful. Allowing heroic bash in any direction INCLUDING downward is too powerful since that's 3 extra damage at a minimum. In this specific case it makes sense since he was falling on him, but in general vertical motion in either direction is too powerful. Falling damage is too much. Getting mauled with an ax is 2, but a 15ft fall is 3? Sure it'll rarely come up, but it should be closer to 1 dmg per 2 squares fallen after the first 2 squares (akin to DnD).
@TheDungeonCoach
@TheDungeonCoach 8 ай бұрын
LOVE the feedback, so thank you! Here are my thoughts on it! - Initiative. This is definitely something I am watching CLOSELY... VERY closely. I think it is unique to have the initiative roll be the thing you were doing leading into the combat... does it slow it down? Yes... BUT I think it does add some nice RP and a KEY moment of transition from "Exploration" into "Combat" so I have loved it so far and it has been a favorite rule of some playtesters, btu well see. Also there is already a variant rule of "just use Agility" to be normal anyway, so either way everyone will be taken care of :) - Heroic bash ONLY worked "downward" SINCE he was jumping down from above, so I think it was fitting and "worth it" in this case, you normally cant do that (and if you go vertically it is 1/2 the distance) - I would have to disagree with you on the fall damage thing. First thing is I want fall damage to be scary... when its not... its just LAME and takes the tension out of moments that should be tense. The big disagreement is your statment about the axe compared to 15ft fall. Firstly, you said "MAULED with an axe" so if you got MAULED that would be a BRUTAL HIT or a critical hit... which would be 4 or 6 damage respectively. if you JUST get "hit" that represents it smashing into your armor or knicking your skin and drawing some blood... at least how I would describe it as a GM, its not a HUGE BLOW ya know? So falling 15 ft (3 Spaces) for 3 damage... that would HURT ya know? and getting sliced in combat... would HURT too. Falling from that high might sprain an ankle (or worse etc). So I think fall damage is fine currently and has felt great in playtesting.

Those are all very good points. I think for myself I will prefer to use the agility alternate rule since it's what my players are used to / expect, but I can see the merits of both. As to the other two bullet points, thanks for the clarifications about the intent. In comparison to a brutal hit, fall damage makes a LOT more sense. Im super excited to see where this system goes!!

I think you can only grant an advantage in advance normally. He just allowed it as a reroll as part of learning the system.

What @markloeffler85 said, the advantage has to be called before rolling the first roll. I think Coach mentioned that in the video, but I could be wrong

The Boulder is confused about crushing tiny mage. Honestly I am over here just silently enjoying the Avatar airbender reference. (Not sure if it was intended or not.)

Hey coach, can there be a way for a lightning attack, like zephyrs, to push away enemies using a action point or two? Loved the one shot. Keep 'em comming. Cheers!
