And adding strings and woodwinds only enhances the drums and "bugles", ,right?

I'm quite surprised bluecoats 2015 didn't show up

I feel like I’m one of the few that welcome the changes that were brought about by the Bluecoats in 2016. Two of my favorite shows are the aforementioned Bluecoats’ “Down Side Up” production and Santa Clara Vanguard’s production of “Babylon” from 2018. However, as someone who was in marching band under the direction of a very traditionalist band director, I also enjoy pre-2016 productions such as Phantom Regiment’s “Spartacus” or the Cavaliers’ “Frameworks”. It all depends on what type of mood I’m in.

Out of respect for those who resist change, DCI should show them the consideration of selling a commemorative pillow to cry into.

I can handle some logical evolution in enhancement, such as various electronics that help, especially in a place like LOS, but the shown GARGANTUAN props used by BD are just too f**ing far. THAT THING had zero business on a football field.. If you can't create and execute a great show without resorting to full on Stage Theatrics and moveable sets, then something is terribly wrong with your design. I would say the Mandarins had about the limit of reasonable props this year. BLue Stars were way overboard.. they could have accomplished their story with HALF the props and without spending a GD fortune on 150_ different uniforms (number shared with me by someone from their actual twitter feed). Babylon 2018 had waht were basically 4 props, but could clever be broken out etc. at no point did they have huge portions of the field covered with tarps or have props from a major movie set. Phantom had minimalistic props, that they made great use of in their constant shifting. To some degree same with Vanguard: simmple enough props, but a major surprise function no one saw coming. Jim Coates starts talking about the financial; challenges these days (see SCVC going on indefinite hiatus). Blue Stars, as amazing as their program was, had to have spent far, far too much money on costumes and props that really didnt affect the show for me.. I found them more distracting. I enjoyed the Cavvies special themed costumes this year, but good luck EVER being able to use them again.. and I cant imagine ANY way to sell them to someone else. If money is becoming such a major obstacle, then corps organizations need to start chilling the f** out on the massive expenditures. Use the money to make quality of life better for the MMs, etc. THEY should be far more important than winning at all costs [BD an egregious perpetrator of that mentality... year after year of programs written to the sheets, that leave a large percentage of fans going "meh".. just so they can score super high and win] I really am not gonna remember your program, no matter how perfectly executed if it doesnt make me feel *anything*. Troopers, Colts, Scouts, Phantom, SCV, BAC all made me feel very powerful things this year. Common thread: NO MAJOR VOCALS or Voiceovers. I wan t to hear THE MUSIC, not someone nattering on and on. Human vocal (beyond the occasion wail, ala PR this year) completely take me out of the moment/mood. And as clever and kewl as RHRN was this year, I never EVER want to hear some lady coaching me on what to do to enjoy the show again.. UGH

It was about the music! Now it's about the props and $400,000 food truck and multiple semis and so on and so on. How many corps will be left in 10 years. The activity I loved for a long time is going away. And I am heartbroken.

So insightful…but I genuinely wish it weren’t. I’m so turned-off by the the topic, parents, alumni, and “proponents” who are doing little more than projecting their past and biases on the kids they themselves used to be. And I’ve been that guy for sure. Whatever you did in 1988…was no less fresh than what last year’s class experienced for themselves. It’s only going to get worse for you, so embrace it. 😂

umm and why should DCI or any other fan/booster really care? There are countless people every year who come and go.. It's the reality of life.. If you were a massive financial sponsor of a corps, your opinion and threats might mean something... but then you wouldnt' be spending your time posting on a YT video.

In 1972 DCI was all run by white men. Fifty years later, in 2022-if this video is any indication-it is still all run by white men. Not one woman as a talking head is on here?? Not one person of color as a talking head is on here??? This video celebrates change. Yet, from the standpoint of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), it’s clear much change is still needed in the leadership (and mindset) of DCI. It’s time for DCI to step up with DEI. Now.
