Could you imagine being at this Finals Awards Ceremony? Waiting for scores to be announced, and by the time of the medal placements arrived, you were down to three amazingly talented corps who all have yet to win the DCI World Championship. So you knew you were getting a new champion, but the question was who was it gonna be? And who could've predicted, within 5 years, all three of these non-winning corps all received their first title.

Well, Phantom won their first in ‘78 whether the judges thought so or not, but you make a good point.

Mark your opinion does not dictate who wins. The judges do. Vanguard won in 78 whether you like it or not.

My age out summer of 1991 with the Bluecoats. It was super awesome to be on that field for retreat that night. I’ll never forget it.

Because they thought they should have won. Cavaliers had been around forever, had come quite close the year before but didn't win their first championship until the year after this. Hard to believe nowadays after their dominance in the 2000's :) 1991 was a killer year for DCI

Did you see why? Look back at the recap at the percussion score. If it weren't for that, they would have been in the top.3.

That Devil drum line sounded like a jackhammer that year. I think 10th place was quite generous. The horn line was top shelf

That was the most tepid crowd reaction at a finals retreat...ever...I get the whole outside corporate big wigs infringing on the activity and the fear or hatred derived from it, but I mean come on man. And now the Blue Devils have their own instruments (System Blue), Carolina Crown has their own mouthpiece, The Cadets have the YEA! organization...it's almost like Star was onto something. Almost as if they had a sense of the direction for the future of the activity...

ButteryAftertaste that’s been a common thread with Star of Indiana, they were much more advanced and ahead of anyone else in their era of performing in dci. even in their switch and creation of brass theater they set an example of what to do.

... And where we are today, 'arriving back after the 50th DCI Anniversary championships. Dallas -1991 was this first DCI finals week I ever attended. Beside marching with Sacramento Freelancers in '82 & '83, the true spirit of D&B corps continue to thrive.

And now they wish they had corp sponsorship DCI not a viable biz model cadet are gone SCV barely recovered and more will fall too many similar activities offer options and interest ( indoor lines good college bands) not what it once was in this era

Blue Devils take note: This is how you react when the second place score is announced which reveals you as the winner. You stand there still with CLASS and don’t trample over the second place corps’ moment.

Seriously? No emotion. I don't agree with you. Frankly, I think it looks ungrateful. Look at any sports activity. Look at anything competitive period..reality shows etc....they all react like BD. The reaction from Star is unnecessarily rigid. They look like they don't even care or appreciate it. This is where drum corps takes itself too seriously. Show some appreciation for crying out loud. You just won a world championship.

BD has always been a laid back corps. But they're still regimented in certain ways. Also (at least in recent years) they are still respectful to other corps while still celebrating their accomplishments.

From what I understand, the drumline had to be entirely replaced before the season started from the B corps. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong!
