@christinethilmany9606 Not "becoming", it's been that way for many, many years now. I dare say the sharp decline started once the City Era of CN ended around the time Foster's Home also wrapped up its final rerun. After that, decent, much less good shows, have been few and far between on CN, with a few notable exceptions like Generator Rex, the 2011 Thundercats reboot, the Green Lantern show, Batman The Brave and the Bold, Young Justice, and Sym-bionic Titan, but many of those were killed after just one season, so in the end, it mattered little. Ultimately, it is no overstatement or hyperbole to say that Regular Show, Adventure Time, Gumball, and Steven Universe literally saved the network from imminent death throughout the 2010s. Those were the only enduring shows, and no surprise they're making more of them.

As much as people think that Family Guy is the reason toonami rewind and acme night are being cancelled while checkered past gets less airtime, that is actually not the main reason why. Sure having extra shows in the primetime hours means you have to make changes to the schedule, but the main reason why Toonami Rewind is getting cancelled is because it did not meet the fans expectations. I saw many people saying they wanted the OG Dragonball Z, people were not satisfied with airing the viz dub of sailor moon instead of the DiC dub and for some reason they skipped an entire arc of Naruto which led to frustration. What people did not realize is that adult swim had to air those. It's expensive to license anime, so Adult Swim did the best they can. The reason why checkered past was more successful is because all these shows are classic and they do not cost anything because CN/AS owns them. They are made by CN for CN. You can look at CN schedules posts for when this was first announced for more info on why the block is retiring. On the bright side, Classic Naruto is joining the regular toonami lineup.
@foxboxarchives2059Ай бұрын
They can't put the original DiC dub anymore for a lot of reasons from what I understood. I was cool with them airing the Viz dub. In fact I was actually enjoying Sailor Moon & Naruto for the first time when Toonami Rewind first came out.
@oseigamingboi5503Ай бұрын
@foxboxarchives2059 At least you found it satisfying, unlike a lot of die hard anime fans who wanted the original and the entirety of the series. People could not give it a chance to thrive and look into why their selection is limited.
@foxboxarchives2059Ай бұрын
@oseigamingboi5503 I can see why. Toonami I think just needs to go diverse outside of anime. Not saying get rid of Anime completely what I'm saying is that they need to balance it with other stuff besides anime like Invincible Fight Girl & My Adventures with Superman. I think they should bring in some more D.C. stuff and more action cartoons. Because like you said Anime is expensive to license and because of streaming and everything it's gonna be very very hard to try to get it on Toonami at this rate.

Then on July 19, 2024, they shuffled the schedule with the double hour of Sailor Moon @ 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM, then the original Naruto anime @ 6:00 PM, and then to close off the block with Dragon Ball Z Kai @ 6:30 PM on Adult Swim. They didn't need to get rid of Toonami Rewind just because of Family Guy coming back, Toonami Rewind should've been on the regular Toonami block on Saturdays, and Checkered Past should've been on Cartoon Network or Boomerang not Adult Swim!

Toonami is going to suck next year with only Ivana Chikd of Wonder,continuations of Ao No Exorcist,wrapped on Mashie,MHA S7 and DS HT Arc, Lazarus, and Rooster Fighter. 2-3:30 block of Toonami is just going to be reruns. One Poece isn’t leaving. Midnight debuts and new shows at the beginning of the block. Toonami is on life support for the last few years. CN is dead and damn Famiky Guy. CN shoukd just sell all its Fox shows or cancel/negotiate to end their contract the KOTH Bob’s Buegers Famiky Guy and Futurama. It is better for those shows to be on replays and reruns on weekdays on Fox with new episodes on the weekends. Make FN great again by erasing all Tod animated shows and bringing back all the 90s and 00s/early 10s shows that made it fsntastic in the first place. Even with the millennium on 2001(24 yeses ago this Wednesday) Fartoon Network was better back in the nineties and aughties/aighrs/naighties/noughties and tens/tenties(esely) rhab the mid 10s to mid 30s. Which there is no future for Disney CN/AS Nick Dreamworks Fox and Pixar as animation in the West is doom just like anime has become corporate with here and there fantastic shows(well as movies and TV shows). Everything is slowly getting worse. Everything was about identity politics on the late tend to early twenties. Tend is tens. Pop culture is going into a dsrk age as everything is sequels reboots and remakes of existing properties with little risks or originality. Everything 9/10 feels like carbon copies and cookie cutter versions of each other. Streamkng ia getting to expensive as without ads it costs as much as cable with ads. TikTok ia getting banned in the new year. Everything feels monotonous and homogenous with entertainment today which is just terrible. Kids these days are wearing stuff from 80s 90s and even my childhood of the 2000s as innovation is declining. Writing in mkvies are all about preaching as well as TV. SNL is dead and hollow like every other fable Fhannel and streamkng plarform on 2024.

@edtifaАй бұрын
@D.C. Network DBZ Kai will still air on Saturdays like it has been since Akira Toriyama passed away and Naruto is coming to Saturday as well. So only Sailor Moon is being screwed. This just basically just means no more afterschool on Fridays for Toonami. I don’t mind Family Guy being on Adult Swim since it does bring viewers to the channel but Adult Swim is 13 hours a day and yet acts like it doesn’t have enough time for Toonami Rewind and Checkered Past if you add Family Guy. I get that it probably wasn’t cheap to obtain Family Guy but out of those 13 hours only just a few hours each day is shows that are not Fox. 13 hours is over half a day and I want to say the Fox series take up like 8 or 9 of those hours maybe more. You would almost think Disney owns Adult Swim since Adult Swim is slowly becoming into like the FXX channel.

I don't think that was the reason why Rewind got cancelled honestly. Judging by reactions online, it seems fans criticized the way it was handled, such as Sailor Moon airing the wrong dub, bringing Dragonball Z Kai instead of the original DB Z (although I frankly do not understand this critique, but okay), or Naruto skipping an entire arc for no apparent reason. They seemingly shot themselves in the foot from the start with this one, so it's probably not because Family Guy is coming - although in their typical fashion, wouldn't rule out over-airing it to the point nobody wants to watch it anymore. The more likely cause of death is the poor handling and failing to expand. And besides, Family Guy has been available for streaming for a long time now, so I can't say I know what prompted this decision. Why air something available for streaming on multiple platforms already? It doesn't make sense. And the same goes for anime as a whole, frankly. Considering that cable television is slowly dying, I honestly don't see any point in airing anime on TV these days. Let's be serious for a moment here, most anime fans are either using piracy websites to watch anime and read manga, or are already subscribed to Crunchyroll. For instance, what's the last time YOU watched anime on TV? Well, for me it's been almost 20yrs, and it's probably similar for many people, I grew up with classic Naruto and Shaman King. Which brings me to another point - the gross mishandling of CN properties on Max. For what Warner Bros. themselves said once, Max has, so far at least, surely NOT become the new home of CN at all. Instead of expanding their criminally limited CN repertoire, they keep removing content and sending it off to other platforms, like they stupidly did with Caped Crusader. In fact, I would refer people to Disney+ for how a streaming platform should handle their own properties. Sure, even Disney+ is still missing various Marvel and Disney properties (in some cases, probably because the rights are messy, such as Spider-Man 1994's case, which aired on both CN and Fox Kids back in the day, if I remember, so that's probably a legal quagmire), but A LOT of their works, including VERY old stuff, is there and likely never going away. That is the way Warner needs to handle their very own properties on Max (or perhaps make a different platform just for it), not what they're doing right now. And they keep adding MORE of their own content, not yeeting it. It kills me that a number of shows are not even available in my region compared to others on Max as well. Would love to rewatch Foster's Home, Billy & Mandy, and many Hanna-Barbera classics such as Top Cat or Swat Kats, after not watching a single episode in entire decades - and yet, there is no legal way of doing that for me, as we speak. All we actually got is just Adventure Time, Regular Show, Fighter Girl, Samurai Jack, Steven Universe, Gumball, Primal, the first PPG reboot, and that's it. Not good at all, and holds no candle to what Disney is doing with Disney+...

I mean I’m surprised people are watching Naruto on toonami when you could just physical media for that i don’t trust television now a days to air stuff
@akarifox63Ай бұрын
@watchforever1724 Physical media is mostly dying for movies, shows, and video games, however. The more likely alternative is either watching it on one of the dozens of anime streaming websites, or directly on Crunchyroll. As I said in my original post, airing anime on TV, especially nowadays, simply makes no sense to me to begin with. It's just not where most people watch it.

I understand that we want to watch the old school dubs of both Sailor Moon (DiC Entertainment dub and Cloverway, Inc dub), and Dragon Ball Z (old Funimation dub). However, you got to remember, DiC Entertainment is no longer around, and that company was merged into Cookie Jar Entertainment back in 2008. As for Cloverway, Inc, they probably lost the rights to Sailor Moon in the early 2000s, which leads the Sailor Moon licensing franchise left the United States in 2004 and it was never been seen again on US soil until a decade later, Viz Media acquired the Sailor Moon franchise in 2014. As for the old Funimation dub of the original Dragon Ball Z anime, there were a lot of hardcore Japanese anime fans in the United States don't like the Funimation dub, because of the dialogue don't match to the manga counterpart, the Bruce Faulconer's background tracks were nostalgic by many people (including myself and my young brother when we were kids watching DBZ on television in the late 1990s and early 2000s), but Bruce Faulconer sued Funimation, because they used his soundtracks to Dragon Ball Z without permission, and they were too censored at that time as well. So when Dragon Ball Z Kai came out in early 2010s, they changed the dialogue to match with the manga counterpart, they removed the filler episodes, change the background musical score, switch the voice actors to voice the characters, and clean up the dirt and grain on the screen as well. So they stick with Dragon Ball Z Kai, because that is the true Dragon Ball Z to experience with. New young generation of fans grew up with Dragon Ball Z Kai, they experience with it fondly for their generation, just like we experience with the original Dragon Ball Z anime when we were kids in the late 1990s.
