Cream is an underrated character. Cream was one of the longest surviving characters in the metal virus, and in Sonic X she helped beat dark oak who almost destroyed the universe. And in Sonic X she beat Emerl when Sonic, Rouge, and Knuckles couldn't win at the same time. She did all this, but can't be in games because she is a child and can't handle war or death. A totally underrated Character that we need back.

Cream is and honestly always was one of my favorite Sonic characters. She added something to the group that I think doesn't get talked about: perspective. The thing about Cream is that, despite her participation in adventures to save the world, she is ultimately a civilian. She's what basically amounts to being the most "normal" of the group. Next to the larger than life characters that regularly save the world and have big personalities, most of which live outside normal society (even Tails spends more time alone in his workshop), Cream is just a polite little kid living the regular life of a polite little kid in Sonic's world. The only time she's stepped up to the plate is when she has to help someone. Cream essentially grounded the others so that they always had a foot in reality. She was a reminder of what was at stake, as she was often personally affected by whatever Eggman (or any other villain) was doing. She also helped anchor the others' personalities, in the sense that everyone else in Sonic's group is kinda weird? Best example is Amy (or at least what she was like when Cream was still around). They had a sister-like dynamic, and while Amy was the protective older sister that Cream could rely on, Cream was a bit more mature and could (sometimes) rein in some of Amy's more crazed ideas. Not that she was helpless by any means. She's still a Sonic character after all, which means she has a fiercely determined nature. It's just that her life is the most normal of the whole cast, so she served as the bridge between them and the world they always have to save.

I think the issue isn't that she's young, it's that she's really the only main character to be characterized as young. And this characterization may lead to awkward interactions within a more serious story. Her whole personality revolves around being a child and i think if they take time to take her past that and give her character more meaning it would be easier to integrate her.

I think your observation is on point. Really the only place you can go with Creams character is having her go through a maturing experience (which Tails already did in SA1) or have her being the more innocent character that shows a more hardened character to lighten up and choose peace (Amy and Gamma in, again, SA1). It would take a skilled writer to give Cream a story that hasn’t been done before, someone far more skilled than me or anyone Sega is willing to green light apparently

The problem is they actually already did that back in Sonic Battle. In Cream's episode, she and Emerl get captured and the two go through a whole arc where Cream teaches Emerl constant violence is not okay, which unfortunately leads to Emerl refusing to fight when they need it most, so Cream overcomes her pacifist ideology and learns to fight with Emerl so they can escape together.

I agree with @zontopho. It's not that she _is_ young so much as she's _presented_ as young. Cream seems more mature than Tails most times, but she's the only character who has an actual parent or guardian, she's an absolute momma's girl, and on occasion, she's written in a way that would match the tropes of her age, such as showing visible fear or wanting to be with her mom. This despite being so mature, well-mannered, and brave. I suppose the writing staff really _doesn't_ know what to do with her since she brings very little unique factors to the table other than being cute, polite, and having a variable weapon in the form of Cheese the Chao.

Yeah Cream's absence in The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog made absolutely no sense, that "Murder Mystery" was set up to celebrate Amy's birthday. Why the hell would she miss out on her best friend's birthday?! Still, even if Sega neglects this character, the fans certainly won't. Ever seen Sapphire Luna's Shadow babysits Cream series? Tails, who is two years older than Cream, has stopped Eggman by himself in the Adventure games and regularly goes on adventures with Sonic.

In Sonic Battle was she for example able to Push back Chaos Gamma despite being powered up by a Chaos Emerald shard. And that games story also includes Amy having gotten major gains from her training with Cream as noted by Sonic and Tails and Cream ending her story on the resolve to train harder to protect those she cares about. Many sources also gave her super speed. With a 2022 Sonic Channel story going so far as to say that with her flight and maneuvering skills can't even Sonic shake her off if she chases him. I remember I had gotten into Sonic around the same time that Cream was beginning to appear less frequently in the series. It was the early 2010s, so her last major appearances would've been in Free Riders and Generations. It was weird to me, because everything before that seemed to establish her as a core part of the main cast, having played major roles in the Sonic Advance games, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Rush, etc. I think what makes it so baffling is how Sega doesn't seem to realize how noticeable her absence is. She was set up to be Amy's best friend and sidekick, but she never even acknowledges her in any of the games after Generations. I've been loosely following Sega since I was on the side of the tracks that had a bad experience playing Sonic 06', I'm still a fan of the characters and what not. I'm crushed to discover she's been neglected so much. Hearing from my brother that Big was in the show gave me some hope. I don't hate big, but he's not my favorite character, and I figured the mere mention of him meant Cream would show up... at least eventually! You're telling me not at all...💔. Cream and Cheese deserves to be more part of the main stream storyline in any Sonic games even in the dangerous adventure. Cream is a fifth member of Sonic's crew along with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. It's not fair for her to be not included. Tails is 2 years older than Cream. If Tails can do anything despite his age, so should Cream. She has unquie abilities like any Sonic characters. She should take part in any of Sonic's adventures and battles, helping her friends and family, and making her the bravest hero we have known. So please, make Cream and Cheese more important in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Don't cut her out for future Sonic games because of her age or how young she is right now.

6:26 I'd say you're half right about that, because in most of those games, Tails felt about as useful an an umbrella in a tsunami. Even in a lot of the games where they actually let him do something that seems significant, like in Lost World, they give him everything he needs to take on the final boss side by side with Sonic, and then have Sonic say "I'll handle this!" And go it alone. It reminds me of playing DnD for the first time in over a decade with my older brother, where I directly attack one of the enemies, and he activates all his special abilities and spends 30 minutes destroying every opponent in sight.

I think Cream's lack of appearances has almost entirely to do with lacking a motivation to be a part of any given plot. Like, unless Cheese and Chocola or Vanilla get kidnapped, then Cream has no motive to contribute to the plot, and there's only so much you can do with that. The writers would have to go out of the way to give her something new to do, or somehow hamstring Cheese/Chocola/Vanilla getting kidnapped into the main plotline. Like, Every character has a gimmick that allows them to be involved in a "big threat" plotline, but not Cream. Sonic: "I go fast and save the world from Eggface!" Tails: "I'm here to help Sonic and fly a plane!" Knuckles: "Did you say Chaos Emeralds? Well, I'm definitely involved in this now!" Amy: "Hey Sonic wanna get hitched? Oop hang on a sec, I'm suddenly being kidnapped." Shadow: "I'm like Sonic but cooler and I mostly punch cosmic horrors and not Eggman even though I did kill him that one time." Rouge: "Hi I work for the government and I'm here to steal your spicy secrets and flirt with the boys." Omega: "WHEN DO I GET TO KILL EGGMAN?" Big: "I usually facilitate the fishing minigame." Vector: "Rent is due. I'm down for literally anything." Espio: "I think I am in love with Vector?" Charmy: "Wheee, being a detective is fun!" Cream: "Well, um, mom isn't kidnapped and neither is Cheese or Chocola... I think I'm gonna just... hang out while the rest of you, um, do your things..."

The "she's too young to fight" stance from SEGA falls apart when you remember that they recently scrubbed the characters' canon ages. Obviously she's still a child, but Charmy is also 6 and Tails is only 2 years older than her. Apparently that 2 years mattered a whole lot to SEGA, enough that her character is seemingly not allowed to progress past being just the child of the cast 🤣 Even if Cream isn't allowed to fight for some reason, Gemerl is still a factor and Cheese is also quite powerful in his own right. I said this in a reply in this comments section, but it's my headcanon that Cheese is a reincarnation of Chaos. He only appears after Adventure, isn't present in Cream's cameo in DX (outside of the mission mode billboards) despite the two seemingly being inseparable, he is strangely strong, punching most robots into scrap in the Advance games and Heroes and creating mini tornadoes in Sonic Battle; on top of that Cheese can even shapeshift into different forms depending on who you pair Cream with in Advance 3. It would also make sense as to why Metal Sonic meant to kidnap Cheese in Heroes for Chaos data specifically, rather than Chocola or any other Chao. No matter how you interpret his powers, he's certainly no ordinary Chao and I'd like it if they leaned into that like they used to, but that would require SEGA to remember that Cream was even part of the main cast in the first place.

This is a late comment, but I've always loved Cream. I never realized how forced she was into all those games because she was such a natural fit. Like a tails for Amy, but I've always preferred Cream over Amy. I'm pretty sure that if she existed during SA2, she would have been the one to trigger Shadow's true memory about his promise to Maria. Plus I adore Chao and with her being around she's always a reminder of they still exist in the franchise because she has Cheese, and it's just cute to have a little chao hanging around the group like a little pet or familiar! I liked how in Sonic X, cheese was just there to look cute and it even had relationships with the characters. Amy took care of it sometimes, Cheese would chime in during emotional or funny moments to help magnify the moment, and in that one episode when they are sneaking out of the lab, Cheese is just so happy to see Sonic again that it can't contain it's self and cuddles up to him but gives away their position. Plus her entire thing was avoiding conflict, and being polite, so you don't even have to have her be playable, just have her as a part of the group because everyone loves her and she's just a warm presence to be around. She could even be a damsel sometimes so Amy doesn't have to be that anymore, and just make it like a running gag that she's so sweet and wholesome that Eggman or whoever can't really do anything to her because they aren't THAT evil. Then you could have a REALLY bad villain in the future actually hurt her or threaten her to allow every character to show their dark sides. Like how Sonic went into that dark berserk form when Chris got beat up in Sonic X. Anyway I'm rambling, but Cream is a great character and Cheese is great too, they add a unique personality and dynamic to the group and even if she's never playable again, she should still just be around. I think the franchise would be better for it.

The fact that the Kirby franchise exists and is so popular is clear proof that you can still have innocent and/or young characters in dangerous settings without it being the least bit problematic. I think a lot of the complexity with Cream is that she still lives with her mother, which would logically reduce the opportunities she has to hang out and adventure with the rest of the crew, especially since they both know how dangerous things can often get around them. The fact that Vanilla isn't often around shows that she trusts the gang to protect and nurture her, but it still makes sense to limit her interaction with them to some extent to avoid needlessly exposing her to danger. Some fans would probably also get annoyed or just generally uncomfortable with having a child around crying or lamenting about wanting to see her mom or something (regardless of how brief it may be) despite situations like that being a good opportunity for growth for Cream and the other characters involved. They'd all work a bit harder to try to keep her happy and safe to protect her innocence and kindness despite her being quite strong and mature in her own ways, which could easily feedback to the player and provide encouragement and motivation to the other characters. It would provide a good contrast with the kind of somber tones the series has grown into lately. I still think her dynamic of being mostly innocent and almost overwhelmingly polite pairs really well with the traits of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, but it would definitely be hard to get her involved in a meaningful way that isn't just shoehorned in for what is essentially fanservice. Certainly not impossible, but it's probably a tougher task than Sega is willing to risk at the moment. Edit: Her place in the main team, I believe, also serves an important role to younger players. While she may be a much deeper character than initially anticipated most times, her relatively simple main struggles and motivations are generally much more relatable to a younger audience. Sonic as a franchise has generally been all ages, with a few exceptions, so I think Cream could effectively be used to bridge that gap or serve as a sort of palate cleanser when things get a little too dark or gritty, or even used to make things feel more dark or gritty if they wanted to by putting her in peril.

Blaze is still really prominent in the comics and just like Big was in Team Sonic Racing and Sonic X Shadow Generations. And she unlike Cream has a build in reason to appear rarely with being from a different dimension and all. As for Dream Team. Sure Sega Hardlight has a a heart for Cream but Dream Team is suck on a Apple device exclusive subscription services so most fans never played it.

I don't really think Rouge is the fifth member of the group. She was only there in Prime to take advantage of Team Sonic to obtain the prism, in Dream Team only for a reward and in the Halloween Tailstube only to tell a horror story. Compare to Cream, Rouge doesn't hang out with the gang, she's only there to get the advantage and that's it. Edit: Cream was in Dream Team so Rouge was just the 5 members of the crew in Prime since Amy wasn't in the Halloween special.

SEGA needs to stop treating Cream as "just a girly girl that shouldn't be out on adventures". And ESPECIALLY in TSR's case, she has guardians to protect her from the "dangerous" stuff. Because SEGA didn't just throw Cream and Cheese away from that game, but also Vanilla, Chocola, and Gemerl.
