I'm using your base concepts to try to make a battery holder for drawer storage. Where you make drawers, I want to make the grid have thickness and simply be walls. I'm new to Rhino/Grasshopper. Coming from SoiidWorks. If I offset the grid, then turn off the grid, how do I turn that into a surface that I can extrude?

You have to turn it into a surface before you extrude it so it extrudes as a solid. Input the outer rectangle and the inside offsets into a boundary surface and flatten the input. Here are other tutorials that can help you in the process. @@DCOParametric that second video is exactly what I needed. It's frustrating to understand the hard stuff and not know how to do the basics of rhino. I'll probably be signing up for your class at some point.
