I have a question about those black bezzels on the sides of your format, doesnt it appear on the screen like that too?

Great question! We do not claim to be the experts on creating DCP's. Our festival director is a filmmaker who created this video to help our filmmakers create their own DCP's to submit for screening at our festival. However, we can't claim this training is completely exhausting. That being said, let me try to answer your question: Yes the black "bezzels" will appear on screen either as horizontal or vertical letterboxing. This depends on the aspect ratio of your exported video file that you're using in DCP-o-matic. One might think this would be distracting for the viewer, but we've found that it's similar to watching a "widescreen" formatted DVD on a high definition television screen... Because the black letterboxing projecting totally black pixels, the mind seems to adjust to the cropping that happens. There are other settings both within DCP-o-matic and within each individual projector that could adjust for this crop or completely remove the crop factor. We recommend you consult with the venue screening your film, or collaborate with a video professional who can adjust your export settings to match your unique project needs. aH thanks I understand now.. and I can live with it@@ElyFilmFestivalMN Yesterday I had my first official screening ever in a real cinema and I didn't notice the bezels at all. It was also my first made DCP file so I must thank you for sharing this knowledge.
