I like how the main "problems" with the Karoo 2 is things that can be updated via software updates. Makes the foundation really strong to build on.

this unit saved me in so many ways on my recent multi-state bike tour. I had zero service in the middle of no-where Vermont and had not a care in the world due to the Karoo 2...I had the first one too but this is a much better fit for my set-up. If you want a navigation devise that works off-line just as good as your phone then I cannot recommend this enough.

I just made the switch from the roam to karoo2. I like the bigger display because I can see more fields. The battery life and the time of day is automatically on the computer at the top, so it does not use up a field. All the standard features work the same as wahoo. The thing I am disappointed with Karoo 2 is the dasboard/companion app. It does not download all the ride profiles into the app. Wahoo beats the karoo there, hands down. I miss the wahoo power profiles provided at the end of the ride.

The biggest thing that I love about the Karoo2 is the battery life in conjunction with being able to sideload android apps. I have a Garmin Fenix 6S I was using for music and navigation etc previously, but it would absolutely chew through the battery on long rides. 5 hours was the max I could get, but after sideloading Spotify and caching my playlists, I only burned through 7% in an hour. My Aftershokz will die before the Karoo2 will on my longer endurance rides.
@cypercharged3 жыл бұрын
Had a discussion with Hammerhead support and a lot of updates are coming! Here’s what they says: - Vo2 max - is on our roadmap, and planned for later - We do have Varia radar, and ANT+ lights will be implemented in the next update. It is ready now for internal tests - We have released our first version on app store in the recent ATG release, and gradully will be expanding based on the riders needs - Power drop out - is highly critical to us, and no hiding the fact that this is an issue. We intend to get a robust sensors connection. - D-fly configuration - is on our roadmap, and planned for later - Once we have our Dashboard build out as analytics tools, this should soon be possible to view the elevation profile. We are workign on it right now, and soon to be moved to development.

Like any software developments, updates are happening at the speed of thoughts. It doesn’t shock me. I understand that full compatibility with any accessories is complicated, takes time and can be updated later on with software update. Most important is that the hardware is 100% ready

Are the maps any good for mountain biking?
@tychoMX3 жыл бұрын
The maps are excellent in my area - very twisty, lots of interlacing trails (Gatineau Park, National Capital Region, Canada). And whatever the source for the trails is it shows things like little side trails that google maps and even Strava doesn't have in their dataset.This is quite material for winter riding when you don't want to spend too much time backtracking your fat bike on foot :) But that may be the issue: these maps are great for this specific area, but the dataset and maps may not be that good elsewhere. I don't really travel to MTB destinations to know any better - even in a normal year, much less in the current conditions.

Not popping up the map is a deal breaker for me, I recall the Edge 800 (I think) didn’t pop-up the map at launch and Garmin quickly added that feature back (as they removed it), for the reasons given Ray, I always come back to this point.... you would never buy a car GPS with a hidden map, they missed the obvious here in my humble opinion

I agree. It's more important to know you're going the right way than keeping any other data on screen. I'll see how much it bothers me when mine arrives. I have already forwarded this whole email conversation to the Product team and have added your vote for this feature request. Your feedback is enormously valuable to us and we always value those who are keen to give us their feedback. Please keep providing regular insights and suggestions. Breaking my heart with that Atom review (erg mode 😢) after a 20 week wait in the UK but the truth hurts haha! I’ve had it 3 weeks now. Pros - racing/free riding using Ant plus the gears are very responsive and I use the wattbike app at the same time to be able to see the gears. Solid piece of kit so sprinting feels very good and it looks fairly cool as well. Cons- embarrassingly it took a week to realise that using Bluetooth (to be able to see the gears) It was acting as a dummy trainer/non smart so wasn’t able to feel any resistance!!! I use a brand new gaming laptop as well with windows 10 and I’m seeing over people online are having the same with no resistance. Not sure if you’ve come across this yet and any fixes? Or maybe the simple answer is just use Ant plus. I’m not even going to attempt to use Erg mode in its current state 😭.

I can kind of get around it with some convoluted mobile hotspot tricks, but it's actually bothering me to the point that I've sometimes considered buying some mobile wifi router just so I can easily update my Wahoos.

Yes, it does. Here's a bit more on how it works: support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360042990814-Wi-Fi-issues

Are profiles also map to a strava user? I found out that no gps does this atm (or maybe I'm wrong) but I like to share my gps unit to my girlfriend or roommate sometimes when they want to have an indoor training session, unfortunately it always auto syncs to my strava and I have to export/delete it/share it with them/they upload it on their strava everytime manually. I wish you could just switch a profile, that new profile would be mapped to new sensors (for their bike) but also a different strava profile (for their activities). Let me know if my question is unclear ^^

Would you pick it over the wahoo roam?

I have the wahoo roam I think it’s excellent v easy to use, good navigation. But Karoo 2 does look good

Its a great device for someone who doesn’t do alot of training. As soon as you want to use it for wokrouts you will notice alot of missing features

Which features?

@@Dcrainmaker maybe features is the wrong word, but I miss the customizability of the workout screen. I always ride with a powermeter but I’d rather know my heartrate than my cadence. When you finish an interval while you are on a different screen than the workout screen, you will get a notification about your last interval, but you don’t get a notification about which target you need to hit on the interval that just started. So you will have to swipe back to your workout screen to see the target. They are all small things, I know. But they are also things that just work on Garmin or Wahoo. I feel like there is a lot of potential but also still a lot of work. I will probably keep my Karoo 2 because of the great map and routing system, I just hope the possibilities with workouts will expand soon.
