I own a GoPro 8 and 10. After having had the opportunity to play around with a DJI Action 2 for 6 months, and now with DJI’s coming out with the new Action 3, I don’t think I will ever buy a GoPro again. The DJI is so easy to use, so flawless with an intuitive and smooth interface, a superb App and connection. It makes it hard to go back to GoPro glitchy firmware, long start-up process, frustrating App and overall overtly complicated interface.

A nice little review. I actually preferred the the original Osmo Action to the GoPro at the time. Sure, I didn't bother with the Action 2, but this new camera will be a great addition to the kit bag. The picture quality of the Hero 11 does look crisper in strong daylight, but in low light situations the Osmo Action 3 actually has the win. I also think the Osmo has a more true to life colour profile too.

GoPro’s videos are definitely better, with a more accurate dynamic range. But this action 3 with that price is really worth it, and the audio quality is far superior, in comparison GoPro’s mics suck really bad

I've been waiting for DJI Action 3 for a long time now. Gopro Hero always have overheating and crashing problems they never seem to solve. Action 3 is more practical. 4K is good enough, who needs 5k or 6k?

One important thing for android users, the DJI requires an app to even use the camera, the app is not on the playstore and has been banned by google, because they don't follow even the most basic security/privacy guidelines. The only option would be to sideload the app, there is no way you should do that. I send mine back, would not reccomend buying them

I have a Gopro 10 with so many issues that I gave in a bought an Action 3. First impressions are that it is better than the Gopro. I recorded video for 45 mins with no over heating, no shutting down and the stabilizing on the Action 3 seemed better than the GP10. I want a camera that I can trust, with the GP10 I have none, with the Action 3 I know I can turn it on, press record and it will do that. With each firmware it gets better.

hm not sure how well the WirelssMic system will last just secured by a USB C plug, seems like it will cause issues if you, for example, use it on a corrugated road or during action sports and have vibrations. A built-in receiver would have been killed feature or at least having a hot or cold shoe mount on the case and then a short cable to the wireless receiver

Starting the other way around, the main advantages the Action 3 has over the Hero 11 are overheating (if static, if moving, it's a non-issue), and longer battery life (plus the extra battery case). Plus a bit in low-light conditions in certain scenarios (but not night, that's GoPro). However, beyond that, in terms of resolution, stability, colors, image quality, etc... the GoPro pretty much wins every time. And even moreso, when you start getting into all the advanced features like timers, 10-bit, high bitrate, etc... And all that ignores the better app platform (in terms of reliability, functionality, or even things most users would never use like the API). There are of course tons of nitpicky features on both sides, but for big-ticket ones like resolution/quality/stability, GoPro easily wins those categories.

The magnet mount is good, but I'd like it to be a bit thinner somehow (whole setup). My challenge is by time you add the magnet mount to the bottom of an Action 2, and then mount that to something else, you've pretty significantly increased the stack height over other action cams with built-in mounting.

Thanks for the great review. The OA3 has many convenience and practical features as you pointed out. In all the review videos I’ve watched so far no one has mentioned if the front and back screens can be used at the same time. Something many people called out with the original OA. I bought a GoPro 4 Black years ago and it did great for me but last year I bought a DJI Pocket 2 and fell in love with the DJI ease of use, stability and quality. It may not be picture quality up to a Hero 11 but GoPros usually have bugs or goofy, unpolished things. Watch Worth It Or Not? for his deep dives there. I pre-ordered the Action 3 and will buy the Pocket 3 when it comes out too.

I have a Hero 8 and it's loaded with the most up to date software, but it does what every Gopro does and locks up from time to time. I didn't want to upgrade to another expensive, buggy camera from Gopro and need to buy all new batteries etc. and be tied to their stupid subscription system. The more I see of the DJI Action 3 the more I like it. The GoPro is more detailed IMO (both Hero 10 and 11). What about other important information for example are there readily available Len correction profiles for the DJI camera for FCPX, and lightroom, Does the DJI Action provide gyro data for stabilisation after the fact, like you can do with GoPro RealSteadyPro? What is the recording Bitrate of the two cameras? Colour depth (I understand DJI promises an update on this)?

The Hero 11 footage looked very dark in comparison. One question: Does DJI have a good companion app for your smartphone, like the GoPro Quik app?

Bright light differences, particularly in default modes, are largely reflecting choices in signal processing. Go Pros generally saturate and (un)sharpen more, most prefer that, particularly for videos aimed to 'pop' on social media. Not sure it's exactly 'better' from an objective/accurate perspective but most do prefer it. It would be interesting to see whether this apparent quality difference stands up once both are outputting 10bit data. I find it a little odd that dji simply doesn't add a "over saturate/sharpen my videos" mode, it was easy enough to make action 1 videos 'pop' far more in post if that was the desire and post processing with both brands will have far more headroom with 10bit outputs. Most users however just want something that looks good to them out of the box. Night time differences are driven more by sensor size and the action 3 with a 1/1.7" sensor simply has a physical advantage against the gopro's 1/1.9" (and 1/2.3" in hero 10) . Much like insta's 1" has even more so. They're all basically using the same underlying sony sensor series (i assume! the older 1/2.3" ones certainly were)

Seeing the Action 3 makes my life more complicated. Action 3 or Hero 11 ??? I am an old GoPro fan who still owns a Hero 3. Needless to say I don't use it that often anymore; batteries are almost gone, always having to use the protective housing, the separate LCD and limited video modes ... Time to replace it. I have a lot of bought and home-made accessories for mounting the camera which I want to keep using. The Action 3 "Adventure combo" has 2 magnetic mounts with the GoPro fingers, 3 batteries, battery case/charger and some more for 419 EUR. Seems I know what to do: Buy the Action 3, charge all 3 batteries from the powerbank in my backpack and spend the extra 80 EUR on having a great day playing around with a new toy 😁 Oh... I should not forget to take a micro SD card with me of course 😏

There are of course tons of nitpicky features on both sides, but for big-ticket ones like resolution/quality/stability, GoPro easily wins those categories.

Hi. Can I use the OA3 without battery and continously from USB as if dashcam? Also, does the DJI MIMO app prevent the export to 4K from android app? I just tried it at the showroom and even the salesperson was confused. what is the point of recording in 4K when the app the forces output to max 1080P

If you have 3 batteries with the gopro Max 2 can be charging while you use one. Defeats the purpose of fast charging because with 3 batteries you will always have a new battery ready to go. I've never been without power with 3 batteries back to back recordings on the motorcycle 🏍 👍 👌 😎

How is the video quality compared to GoPro? I saw potato jet's video, and he was of the opinion that GoPro 11 had better dynamic range. But seems like DJI Action 3 has better low light performance. Can you please do a comparison?

dji cameras standard picture profile isnt always good and its recommended to record in flat profile, dcinelike. and add alittle color in post. you get way more dynamic range that way.

DJI is coming up with 10 bit color firmware upgrade in the future. Most important thing is DJI is more practical to use for long videos. Gopro has overheating and crashing problem

I owned the Hero 11 for a while but sent it back.. the Overheating issue was a deal breaker.. it shutting off after 20-30 minutes is garbage.. also when on the tripod the sensor would randomly move around F';n up the video. Both with stabilization on or off.. I got the Action 3 and all those problems have gone away.. I can record as long as I want without it shutting off... I say the Action 3 is better.. way better.. only complaint is that I cant get extra batteries for it yet..

Honestly, I think there is a massive market for a 'super simple' camera. It takes 'solid video', it has a long lasting battery, and has almost no modes. Just press record and go.

out of the box I seem to have this confusing operation 1 - the record button on the top only start the recording quick pressing it again does not stop the recording. I have to press the quick switch button at the side to stop the recording. 2 - quick pressing the quick switch button only start/stop video recording. it wont do the mode switching am I missing something?

Let me tell you what sold me on this. I bought both of them hero11 and osmo and compared side by side. I take lots of shots while walking in the city, on Osmo action app on my phone I can actually see what I am filming, but Hero11 stops the moment the camera starts so I can't see what I am filming. Also with Osmo I can change the zoom while filming, while with hero I can't. I also like the mounting system which is much better and easier than Gopro
