Today we take a look at the loadout changes in DCS World 2.8.2 for the Harrier.

I'm one of the few that welcomes this. After looking through some real Harrier manuals and perusing the approved loads I had been disappointed with the inability to reproduce them in DCS until now.

You can still also carry a Triple Rack of GBU-38 (and other bombs) on 2 and 6 as well, but then no Sidewinder/Sidearm on 1 and 7.

Haven't fired up the Harrier since the update. Maybe it changed my loadouts. I never lost the preset loadouts from years back for the 3xMK83 on the inner pylons or the x19 rocket pods. The x19 rocket pods wouldn't work but I could load them up. But the 3xMK83 on the inner pylons worked and made the harrier a real bomb truck. I hope that's still there. Maybe now I have the x19 rockets but no x3 MK83s. I'll guess I'll check.

Why would I want the option of side-by-side racking if all it really accomplishes is blocking an otherwise usable pylon?

It's an option in the real aircraft at may be used IRL if the other racks aren't available I would imagine.

Missing the ability to carry MK-83x2 on station 2 for some reason. Also seems odd but you can't diagonally set the paceways 🤔

Yes, the double mk83 was not possible IRL so was removed. No diagonal GBU12 is because of the clearance of the wings. If you had to jettison they would collide and may damage the aircraft.

A solid nerf to the harrier. I’m not complaining. I’m all for realism. But I did enjoy preprogramming 10 jdams, dropping them all at once and watching the carnage.

You can still carry 10 JDAMs with this patch.

You can do it, but you'll have to sacrifice sidewinders/sidearms to do so. 😉

Yes that's correct. British solution on their harriers was to have more pylons and single carry most stuff. It is a very small aircraft after all :-)

Can you remove them? Say you land and rearm. Can you delete them and put down new ones or do you have to hop in a clean jet again?

Not entirely sure what your question is but I'm going to assume you're asking if you can remove armaments after landing. Answer is yes, in the re-arm screen you can load whatever loadout you would like and the ground crew will do it.

@@deephack no sorry, wasn't clear. Can you remove the target points so when you land and rearm so you can set different targets. The computer only has 10, so can you clear them to set new ones, or does it just recycle back to one?

Target points cannot be deleted, only overwritten. As such you can just keep re-using them.

You still can, the only change is, that you can no longer carry things on 1 and 7 at the same time.

I didn't know the loadouts with crazy amounts of bombs were not realistic, but suspected. xD. Well, I think this is good, looks more realistic.

I mean she can still carry the same amount of JDAM, the only change in bomb load is 10 Mk82 instead of 12 and less Gbu-12.

Typically in the Harrier IRL they wouldn't weigh it down with DCS loads anyway due to weight restrictions for LHA takeoffs. Usually they'd pack what the mission called for and leave the tanks a tiny bit empty (they'd always AAR from what I understand) for added safety.

These changes were made because the real aircraft cannot carry some of the previous loadouts safely and doesn't IRL.

If a loadout is not cleared as safe then no aircraft would ever fly with it. It seems pointless to simulate the risks of carrying a loadout that no harrier would when there are other things still to be worked on. I think this is a good compromise. If you need more bombs then bring more planes ;-)

Now that is a bomb truck! Harrier does very well for it's size though. 10x GBU38 is nothing to sniff at.
