I do love the use of BMS to give a sneak preview of what’s to come with the F16. It does make me want the AG radar and a fully functional list of options in the UFC though. I miss the aircraft telling me my fuel at home plate without me doing maths lol

the ag radar wont be as powerful as bms though, bms ag radar is more like a gimmick

@@aquaswallower988 it’s still incredibly useful, especially GMT mode, for finding a convoy. DBS 1/2 would allow you to pick which part of an airfield to target. We already see that level of usage in the F18 with the GM modes and it’s pretty good. It may not be as powerful as the BMS one, but it would still be more powerful than we have at the minute :)

I was wondering why i couldn't find half the radar targets in my tables i think its pretty stupidly designed that you have to manually add more radars instead of just having another table but i guess thats what you get with a plane from the 70's

Just working around the limitations of the tech, the HTS pod brings it into the modern era!

@@Husker5454 It maps out the locations of radars and even remembers roughly where they were when turned off. It lets you use the harm nice and easily, as well as enabling the harm to use lofting mode to give it greater range.

Planning is a very large part of modern Operations, it's just a bit of a DCS-ism that we throw ourselves into combat without much forethought.

I expect these features are tied to the eventual dynamic campaign now, as it's been years since DTC was teased. You're right, we really do need proper planning tools in dcs, but it should be possible to use POS in EOM or PP with a properly panned mission in the editor, or one manually setup after getting in the jet. It's just a bit of a pain.

@@Obi1-KenBone-Me the Viggen and Tomcat utilise VERY basic data entry by scraping waypoints off the map. This alone would be handy, as would having access to the setup in the options/special menu for the F16. You could write your CM programs, and various HUD, BINGO and similar settings into options menu, and when you press load, it would take those settings (say, HARM tables) and add them to the markers on map. Perfect for dynamic multiplayer environments like BlueSpike!

Yep, some modules have nice workarounds, the JF-17 has it's dtc setup in the Special options! Otherwise you've got to edit .lua files to change the defaults, which is a royal pain. I do hope we'll be able to (partially) override player DTC's with mission specific ones in the editor too.

What a ceazy crappy mode! Why in the world would anyone ever use this mode for the HARM?!? Please enlighten me.

It's main advantage is it doesn't need any extra hardware, since we lack the HTS, that's what we've got to use for now. The Harm on the Viper is more accurately simulated than the F/A-18c for example, which is due to have similar limitations added later.

I will say, it’s very handy as the equivalent of the F-18’s “SP” mode, as a quick “Point and Shoot” mode if you’ve been caught out by a pop-up threat on the RWR. Later modes, such as POS, allow better ranging and Missile kinematics, but are usually confined to only being able to be aimed relative to steerpoints already in your flight plan (there are modes for pop-ups in POS but this provides better SA IMHO). The answer you’re looking for though is that it’s rarely used in a modern environment with correct equipment. HAS mode was made to make use of the HARM prior to the HTS’ availability. It’s like asking why anyone would use walleye II when you have LGBs or JDAMS - it’s legacy, but it can be fun if you want to try your luck with an 80s -era mission, or a mission where maybe you aren’t a USAF Viper driver. I don’t think the Euro-Viper drivers got HTS, but I’m unsure if they even got HARM in those cases.

HAS is still useful for quick improv engagements (whilst lacking the HTS) But yes, mission planning is a large part of how SEAD is done, so POS and HTS are much better suited, when we eventually get them.

Yep, had to hurry to re-research the lofted values on the hornet for comparison prior to this last patch. Hope this means Pre-briefed mode is coming to the Hornet soon, along with POS for the Viper.
