I’m finally getting a new rig next month, and am eyeballing the F5E as my first jet. I’ve tried DCS before and attempted to learn the Blackshark for my first module. Huge mistake. It was so in-depth it turned me off the sim altogether. I’d like a module that’s a lot more basic and this looks to fit what I need. I was thinking of the Hornet, A-10 or Viper but hear they can have a heavy learning curve. Thanks for these videos, they are a good reference to have in the learning process.
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the Blackshark is an intense one to get into for your first. The F-5 is a good point to start with if you've never flown a jet before. The F-86 is another option to get accustomed to the extra speed, but the F-5 is a better choice overall.

Absolutly with you in starting with the F-5, but if some one wants to start for free, and does not care about super sonic or radar, there is an A-4 mod that is as amazing as a pay module. Probably a dumb question, but if a plane needs a drag chute to land how is it able to takeoff from that same runway? Are takeoff rolls generally shorter than landing rolls?
@RequiemsACTL
@RequiemsACTL 3 жыл бұрын
No that's not a dumb question at all as we have different considerations when taking off vs landing. There is a concept called "Balanced Field Length" and what this basically does is create certain speeds you need to make a decision during your takeoff roll that give you enough runway distance to come to a complete stop if you have a problem such as an engine failure. If you're below a certain speed you will reject the takeoff (enough distance to stop) or you continue the takeoff (not enough distance to stop). These speeds will change depending on various factors such as weight, weather conditions, and runway length.

@@RequiemsACTL Talking abou how good a Mig-21 module, by the DCS 1.5 standard, they are good and modelled correctly, but in DCS 2.5, Heatblur's Tomcat got the spot better than the Leatherneck MiG-21. By no means saying the Mig-21s are a bad module, they are still fantastic. The only thing it lack is actually a good rival terms like human driven F-4E phantom. You can get the mig a fight with F-5, sometimes it give you a fair fight on with a good terms, but flying it alongside the modern stuff, you put your own nail in the coffin. I personally enjoy the Mig for being realistic and a great "scramble" aircraft for novice pilot, as you can simply just switch most of switch on. But talking about more complex stuff, the MiG-21 somehow feel too simple to operate caused by the "novice all switched up" procedure, while the complicated Tomcat feel "real" because you actually have to select the switch properly to operate the Kitty. If you curious about it, you can check out the 21bis, but if you more to procedural near real life experience (like you mostly did in some of your video content) I will say the Tomcat give you a good sense. While the more modern stuff like Hornet and Viper, somehow still "far" from reality due to the nature of both aircraft still in USAF and USMC service respectively. The Tomcat give you in good position and have better VR support. I rarely flew the F-14 module, because of love-hate realtionship with the complicated procedure.

Thanks for that great info and your personal perspective, I appreciate it as it was a good read! I do own the F-14 and F-18, but I have much more time with the Hornet vs the Tomcat.
