I checked your math in the example. You got it spot on. Used a Monroe Model L to check it.

G'day everyone, I was happy with this video originally, but I had some good RL feedback on it and since not many people had seen it at the time I decided to make a couple of very subtle changes from the original to improve it further for a re-release. This is why you see a revision 1 in the title. I always want to ensure you guys see the best example I can make! Enjoy! (The revised part is around 4min 12 to about 10 min)

Great tutorial as usual! The trigger and flow concept is really great for memorizing steps at the different phases of flight. I do want to point out one issue though: Coming from prop planes, flying the turn to final while maintaining a 2,000 fpm descent rate, decreasing lift due to the bank angle, and a decreasing airspeed, all at the same time, is quite challenging. The diagram from the manual that you include in the video suggests a turn to final while still flying at 1,500 ft agl and to start the descend while rolling out of that turn, and I find that much easier during my transition to this jet airplane.

Cheers Andreas, yeah I've done this approach from the perspective of the flight lead so they're more experienced and can push things a little harder to give the rest of the flight more time as they would initiate their break later and fly a longer pattern like what you would see in that picture.

I've still got a few more videos planned for the F-5. After those are complete though it will be the F/A-18. I ran a poll to see what people wanted and the Hornet won out. I've already created flows for the Hornet so it's just a matter of making the content to go with it once I complete what I want to do with the F-5.

what a flight pattern! Thanks for the video. One question, during the last turn ( before"final,"), do you control the altitude with the trim or do you pull back the Joestick? I'm trying to control the altitude only with the trim and the plane ends up falling at the end of the turn...sorry for my english!

@@RequiemsACTL I try to use trim only but the plane drops. This same technique of trimming and not pulling the stick works very well for me in the F-18, but the F5 falls down if I don't pull the stick...I will keep practicing!

@@pabletesoy Sorry I mistook your first comment as if it was related to the F18 so I removed my first reply as my advice was related to that. Think of trim as being used to relieve control pressure at a certain airspeed and not something you use as a primary control for your airplane. Your speed is going to change a bit once you roll off the perch and start your turn towards final, so the trim won't always be perfectly set like it is in the Hornet. It will just take some practice, but try and fly a little faster during the turn before slowing down as you level the wings on final. Any trim changes will be minimal.

When you have some experience with aircrafts like a10c or fa18, is this still interesting to get? thinking on getting it, but now I don't know if it still worth

I started with the F/A-18 first before flying the F-5 and the simplicity of the F-5 is what makes it appealing to me as it's a refreshing change flying this airplane. Sometimes you don't want all the avionics and fancy gadgets. Just a jet with some speed and some old fashioned bombing. I wouldn't recommend it purely as an air-air role but it's fun as a ground pounder for sure :-)

@@RequiemsACTL I agree with you. I have some modules like harrier, hornet, warthog, viper. Sometimes I get what you are saying and hop in that old mustang xD for simplicity. Probably should go for something simple and more modern. Thanks for the tip.

For the final approach speed, you said the only non constant is fuel, would ammunition be considered non constant? Because you can lose ammo?

No Reese you're thinking is sound. Your gun ammo is part of the equation but as long as you have ammo just add 5 kts. If say you were returning with all a full loadout of ordnance though you would be heavier with a resulting higher speed, but in a general sense as long as you fly "on speed" during your approach you will be safe so that is more important to pay attention to

The way the AI controller pronounces "1" still sounds like Hornet 3.0 to me. :-)
