That was a great watch, really well put together and some of the smoothest flying I've seen. Appreciated the demonstration of a successful kill on the simulated fan song - that's given a few people some bruised egos when they've failed to kill it so hopefully helps them out. Only error I saw (as you pointed out) was flying the pattern incorrectly, you were flying contra flow to everyone else - if they had been closer in it could have caused you an issue. Overall, superb video!

Thanks for the video! I'm really confused about the bombs going long - had this issue in both ccip and ccrp. Isn't the point of these modes to calculate impact point? They go long for me even below 300 knots. Are you really supposed to just eyeball the drop point (and ccrp is uselss)? Also noticed my altitude is also shown to be lower than what shows in external view (and I'm always told to adjust to FL16 on approach even though hud shows 16k)
@baptiste39709 ай бұрын
Not sure what is the reason for this altitude mismatch, but the work around I'm using is to look at your actual altitude at the bottom of the screen in F2 view, and then adjust the altimeter setting so that the HUD altitude match that. I didn't have issues with bombs landing that far off the ccip reticle though, but I'm just starting in the F-16 so maybe I just got lucky. But well they are unguided bombs after all, and cluster bombs are even more affected by winds I suppose, that might explain it.
@dimanizer89 ай бұрын
@@baptiste3970 Thanks for the reply. Yes, I tried the altimeter adjustment, but found that it's inconsistent across the map (air pressure changes?), so gave up on it. The difference in impact location vs what the reticule shows just seems too big (same problem with CCRP). So much so that I find dumb bombs unusable in the few missions that I tried them in (including this one). I guess you might be right, but I'll keep looking into it :)
@apfxlkuchen9 ай бұрын
When I played mission 1 a few days ago, my bombs were also overshooting constantly. My solution to the problem was to change the Burst Altitude ( you can find it under "BA" in the "CNTL" page in the "SMS" in A-G mode). For me it worked best to set the "BA" to 500ft and climb to an altitude of around 750ft AGL when you are about 20 seconds away from the target. I also tried climbing to about 4000-5000ft AGL with a BA of around 1000ft when I was 20 seconds away from the target and it worked just fine. I would also recommend training to drop some cbu-87 bombs in similar scenarios, so you don't mess it up after flying 30 minutes in the FIWOS mission.

The missing f-16 on the situation display isn't a bug. The start-up procedure changed. You should not turn the right most knob on the bottom right panel (the one that also has the alignment knob) until the alignment is done. So the new procedure for this panel is: turn on avionics by flipping the switches, turn alignment to either stored heading or norm, wait until alignment is done and turn the alignment knob to nav, THEN turn on position transmit.

That was a workaround for a bug from last year. This has since been fixed. Make sure you are following the new Datalink procedure. My new startup tutorial goes over this here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/poTVZa2XqNh0gpo Also at 0:58 into that video, you will see the actual fix from the changelog. It explains exactly what was done and what is required now. Please also ensure you are outside in order to get a GPS signal. If you are under a hard shelter on startup, you will need to first taxi outside after you have aligned your INS and then set MIDS to on. Hope this helps.

@@MrKotasuperhero Oh I understand. The bug isn't that 1-1 isn't showing in the HAD (The Harm targeting display). I was demonstrating the bug by showing you that 1-1 wasn't showing in the HSD (Horizontal Situational Display). The bug itself is that the Datalink shows NO ONE in the HSD, not just 1-1. I got confused when you said HAD and 1-1 not showing in the harm screen. No, this bug is no longer present. This was fixed a few months after this video was posted. You now have to follow a different procedure to ensure your Datalink shows all the HSD contacts. The new procedure is found in my latest quick startup video here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/poTVZa2XqNh0gpo, and you can find the fix at 10minutes and 43 seconds in. Keep in mind, as I get a ton of questions about this, that you will NOT get "GPS" time if you are underneath a hardshell cover or something over your jet. You must be out in the open for this to get the GPS signal. So, if you are under a hard shell, you will need to wait till the INS is aligned and then set it to NAV, and taxi outside and then turn on MIDS. I hope this helps.

If you know your flight lead's tacan code, you can put in your tacan to be 63 above theirs. So, if Lead's is 1x, then you would set yours to 64x. Once that is set, your tcn will show your distance from your flight lead just like it would show your distance from an airfield TCN or a waypoint. Really helpful in tactical formations. Also good if you lost your datalink. If you lose your lead, and don't have datalink, you can find them that way.

I know you're not a real pilot (crew chief) but where did you learn that it's acceptable to tap your brakes for directional control on takeoff roll? As a civilian private pilot of 25 years, if I ever did that with a CFI during initial training, advanced training or a flight review, I'd probably get the sh!t slapped out of me!!! 😂. Now IF that happens to be an actual military procedure, then I stand corrected.
@BogeyDope Жыл бұрын
I'm sure it's incorrect for real life. However, in DCS I've found it helps me stay on centerline until I have enough rudder authority to control with the rudder. This isn't meant to be real life procedures.
@redtailpilot Жыл бұрын
Hahaha ok, thanks for clarifying your reasoning because my OCD kicked in when I saw that and I had nightmares of one old grumpy CFI I had, slapping me on my bald head (he never did that IRL) LOL. Yeah, it's a game and it's fun, so whatever works for you is fine. For me, leaving NWS engaged during the initial roll and then disengaging it as I pick up speed and get positive airflow over the control surfaces, works great.
