Recommend You Open Instant Action Cold Start First Aircraft
Set Your Desired FOV
Save It with RIGHT ALT + NumPad Zero (0)
Escape Key & Quit To Desktop
Open DCS And Repeat For Each Aircraft One At A Time
If you make a change and go flying, it won't save.

Hey Juice. in the F-15E's special options, change the 2D/Monitor to setting of 8 that is exactly where the eye is of the VR Pilot model. I think the coders set default at 8 for the VR setting, so out of the box you were aligned. We moved the eye point back 8 cm as if your head was up against the seat showing more of the inside buttons of the MPDs that was blocked by the UFC coming out at you. This was done for people who don't have head tracking so you can see them.

Thanks this seem to work! Now just need to find out how to save Hornet seat adjustment currently being loo low every time starting new flight.

With the FOV setting, I adjust my seat height at the same time and they should save together.

I've always edited the /Saved Games/DCS/Config/View/SnapViews.lua file directly. I believe this file gets created if you save a view for any aircraft, or you can copy it out of the install folder. You can search for each aircraft in the file and then look for the entry labeled default view. It seems to always be [13] for desktop or [14] for VR. Also note that multicrew aircraft have multiple entries, which will be labeled 'player slot #'.

Thanks to Hyena's recommendation, I've reset them all and made a copy of the snapviews.lua in case it drops again. He and I now both have had some user-made missions that break it, and today, I jumped on one of my Normandy missions I built and the Spitfire was reset to Default FOV. I stopped, the mission, went out to main menu, instant action, spitfire takeoff Normandy miz, and it was set like I wanted it. Seems to be related to some of the user missions format. I reported it to Ben of ED and it's in the dev's hands now.

I'm having the issue where it saves that view just find, but in the F18 I use an axis slider on my throttle to zoom in and out and when I use it and return it to the center detent I have a completely different FOV than what I had before and I have to bind another button for normal zoom to return it to my preferred zoom, and the same number that is in the LUA file. Is there a fix for this? Kinda a pain to center the axis and hit the button to return the zoom to normal each time I want to zoom in on a target...

I had that too...and it seemed to be related to edited missions vs default ones. I haven't figured out the total fix yet and have been talking with ED staff about it often. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't.

I’m having the same issue with the F18. Set fov per directions. Restart and fov is back to 140. Zoom is bound to an axis slider on my throttle which now seems to be the issue, it wasn’t in the past.

Can you share the FOV numbers that you set for those aircraft? Could be useful as a baseline for reference.

I’ll work on it but my settings will be for a 27 inch screen at 18-24 inches from my eyes. Guys with no head tracking will want to keep their default settings to see more. Guys with VR need not to do anything.

I’ll see if I can work it into a good video format or a community post. It’s a variable thing with multiple degrees and I really try to go for the right outside view then the right inside view then the right display of information on the HUD or HMD.

Do you usually have the fov the same for all aircrafts?

Not exactly the same but close. Each aircraft has a different distance from the pilot’s eyes to the panel, hud, controls, etc.

It’s within DCS world. It’s the FPS and settings function, which is usually default, right control. Pause break. But you can also look in the settings and see what it set to on your computer.

@MAILMAN in your Controls Options, hit the drop-down to get to UI Layer and under that it's called Frame rate counter - Service info, video coming out on it in a few minutes.

Just tried to reset the FOV in my F-18, as per your instructions. Did not work for me?

Did you see the video in the description? Once you adjust it, then you have to hit right alt +0 on the number pad to save it and then you have to exit all the game and then come back in. It should be saved.

Don't give up mate...Try this. 1) With DCS Shut Down, go to your Saved Games Folder 2) Open DCS World Folder 3) Open Config Folder 4) Open View Folder 5) Delete Snap Views Lua file 6) Close File Explorer 7) Launch DCS Now, in the main menu, bring up your settings options Click on the CONTROLS tab Drop-Down on the left, select an aircraft you like to fly With "All But Axis Commands" showing in the next field... ...Test the saving function by hitting RAlt + Zed (0) on the Number Pad. You should see Save Cockpit Angles pop to the top. If not, SEARCH drop-down in the second field and find "Save Cockpit Angles" and see if it is programmed to anything at all. If you have this set to a key command, it should be working. Remember, you have to set one aircraft at a time and exit before flying, before going to another aircraft, etc. Message me on Discord if you want to share screen and go through it. J

Yes, I've checked, I do have correct key-bind for "Save Cockpit Angles" For me, it does not seem to make any difference; going through the steps still gives me the same default view when I slot into the aircraft. As I say, I've lived with the current views I have since first installing DCS. So, will live with what I have until there is another solution, through the UI. But, thanks for tips. Always interesting to see what others are doing to 'customise' their DCS

VR isn’t affected by FOV Lua issues and I use FaceTrackNoIR.

if you are using TrackIR, set "Reset FOV" and in DCS navigate to axis command, axis control and set lever for Zoom!
