DCS: JF-17 Thunder Radio & Communications Tutorial!

Hey guys this is a quick and dirty tutorial on how to use the JF-17 Thunder's rather quirky Radio setup, it is unlike the Comm setup in any of the other jets in DCS and varies significantly in its design rationale.
Coming from the western F/A-18C, AV-8B and F-16C which all have rather similar radio communications setups the JF-17's Comm system can be a bit tricky and certainly confusing!
I also demonstrate and go over some of the most common errors that I have encountered with editing the Preset Frequencies in the JF-17 Thunder and how to mitigate those errors, IF IN DOUBT CYCLE THE COMMS HANDOFF BUTTON!!!

Great video. What a convoluted way to set radio frequencies, but at least it is doable. Was wondering how to get the 104th's favourite AWACS frequency (257.800) into the jet. Now I know! Btw, the city you were flying over is called Shar-jah not sharaj.

nice exterior shot at the begining. by the way is there no way to map the master external light switch? I can't find it in any of the controls, and I always have switch it in the cockpit manually

I don't have the JF 17 but this was your most recent post. This might be a silly question but you always have great looking videos and I really like the letter box look you have your screen set to. The closest I can get is 16:9 in the settings as a choice anyway. So what are your screen settings if you don't mind me asking? They may not work for me but I hope they will.

What this video shows is that fighter pilots have to be right-handed or ambi-dexterous (equally good at both hands). Its the control stick which is always in the right hand, whether its the central stick like in the Thunder or side-stick in F-16. Throttle is always in the left hand. Unlike cars, fighter jets are not made in two version of right-hand drive and left-hand drive.

You know that in order to access the data link and turn it on in the JF-17 you have to put in 199 in com 2 and the switch the section above com2's line from slave to mast then click the arrow next to it to turn on the data link which will then turn to "+nesmast" i believe. Without that you only see rwr info on the HSD.

@@fear2218 just click L4 on the UFC to select COMM1 preset and R4 to select COMM2 preset. If you run datalink 199 on COMM2, you can only use COMM1 for radio communication.

After I enter in my own freq it subtracts one from it like 250.200-->250.199?

Hey Spud, good going with this video. If you have difficulties reading an awkwardly placed panel in DCS using the snapviews is a good approach, as you will only have to contort your neck into place once. The way it works is that you can set the snapview once when maneuvring your neck into place, and than later you can access it from any type of head / neck position without needing to lean back over.
