It’s not just games. Even cars require connection to the internet to get bug fixes and ‘updates’. Enshittification. Yes, I know that’s not the exact definition of the term by the guy who invented it, but it applies to everything online as a description. From Microsoft Office to musical instruments like synthesisers, they are released unfinished and require the creator to support them just to keep working. And that Office thing, also applicable to Gmail, is that changes are made just to justify keeping teams working - very little is improved, more bugs are introduced and a lot is harder to use because change for change’ sake. Ok, I’ve gone off the ED topic a little but it’s all symptoms of the same thing - everything is at least a little bit shit, you don’t own anything and without the good will of the company that created something, which you often pay for, it falls apart.

When I wrote a negative steam review like this, around 8 years ago, like, stop piling up technical debt, stop exploiting whales, whales please stop praising a company for a feature crawl that should have been top priority for years, I was confronted by whales to STFU and give them time. They've been working on departing from DX9 when even DX11 was old, no multithreading just overpriced overly ambitious DLCs, overpriced micro DLCs and and re-loading existing modules. Everything BUT they lacked. This was the time period when the module fidely has completely departed from world fidelity. IMHO, ground mechanics, in 2024 should be on ARMA1 feature level. If a casual player has FC3, one modern jet (Hornet or Viper), one helo and one paid map, any consequent purchase is hardly justified. And now this. This is where, simping for companies that arent listening to customers, will eventually lead. +1 Thought about their attitude these days. Some of their modules had DLLs with expired ceritficates, which triggered alarms of anti-virus software, deleting the files downloaded in the update.. It took them MONTHS to actually address the situation. This is a routine task for a dev of their caliber. Instead of fixing it, they have been telling people that THEY have to add the DLLs to the exclusion list of the AV software and THEY should be reporting THEIR outdated DLLs to AV software makers. What an arrogant move this was.

If I was in charge, and suppose that Razbam is a PITA, I would have said that 'Okay. We have had a situation here with Razbam, and want to quit on good terms, so all proceeds from the F15E will go to Razbam, as long as they support the module. But it will also be the last product they'll do for our company'. At least that would have been my take on it. Sometimes you need to cut your losses.

Selling someone else's product to a military customer as your own is not a joke. And after that having the audacity to use the community to put pressure on ED is also really shady. I've stopped buying anything DCS over a year ago, and I've uninstalled it a few months ago. I'll be happy to come back, and it's not like this was even motivated by any rumblings in the community - it's just that as a package taken together, DCS is as disjointed and incomplete as it was 10 years ago (well, arguably even more so now). Every once in a while, something really great feels like it's coming together - a map/aircraft/campaign combo that just feels perfect for example, or a good multiplayer server that really hits the right spot. But it feels like the whole thing is built on a bit of a house of cards - the good times don't last because something always breaks, and things that start out so promising falter and never actually get finished. I don't doubt for a moment that there will be more good times to be had in DCS, but I'm not sure it really makes sense to buy into the entire ecosystem the way many players have, and I think it will hurt ED in the long run.

I was one of those top 4 comments you read in the beginning. Here's my biggest problem with DCS. As a singleplayer only player, there is very little reason for me to play the game beyond learning the systems and weapons of the different aircraft. Every time I get enthusiastic about playing DCS, invest some time into learning something, or refreshing my memory of how to do something, I go into the game to actually fly a mission, and then get completely frustrated or disappointed with the experience and wonder why I bothered. They've been talking about the dynamic campaign for at least a decade. Even if they released it today, nobody would like it because the AI isn't up to the task. There's only so many times you can fly a mission and watch the rest of your flight follow you around the sky without engaging anything, despite you telling them to do so multiple times. Or watch them randomly crash, or get one shotted by Vladcarlos Hathcockski on the ground. Plus DCS's performance with lots of units on the map is terrible, even with a decent PC. Anyone who's tried Retribution or Liberation will understand all of that. I think the only people having a good time with DCS right now, are the guys who just fly Air Quake, content creators making money from DCS videos, and people like the Grim Reapers who have a dedicated group of players who all regularly fly with each other. I've just written a novel length comment, and haven't even mentioned the F-15E, RazBam, constant delays, questionable modules, unfulfilled promises etc yet... I've wasted so much money on ED's products since the original LOMAC, that I wish I could get my money back on all of it. I've given them my passion and support for 20+ years, and they've done nothing but disappoint me. So that passion is entirely negative at this stage. I WANT this sim to be amazing, I really do. But that's obviously never going to happen.

I kept reading shyte about DCS AI, and when I tried a campaign (multiplayer only player usually) I was flabbergasted when I learned that my ka50 wingman isn't able to fire a vikhr at a stationary tank 🤡 I then remembered how ppl praise IL-2 for their superior campaign - well it's even worse there: your wingmen will first miss their entire ammo while the defender flies in a lazy turn; the rest of them will headon crash every. single. time. Maybe humanity isn't advanced enough for ACTUALLY working plane AI idk 😄

My reasons for leaving the community are different, but nevertheless still somewhat connected to this issue. I uninstalled DCS a while ago and freed up 750 GB of space on my new rigs hard drive. (that's more than all my other games combined). And I would be looking at something like 1 TB today, if i had stayed on the horse and bought all the new modules and maps etc which have been released since. my previous rig was an strix 2070 with an i7 2700x which was ok on the 4k monitor not so much in VR. So i had made a 4090/ 7950x combo with 4 TB of m.2 on 2 sticks , one of which was only for my DCS files. A very capable rig with ample storage solely for flying DCS in VR. so why did i quit? Well I spent close to 3 years just trying to setup my VR correctly, 2 years on my first rig (with some success) and a year on the new rig. ( again with some success) After which time a slowly started to realized that the squeeze simply was no longer worth the juice. From the inside of my G2 the cockpit always looked amazing and that experience alone was worth the time and effort and money i had put into it. But the problem was that 50 meters out and i couldn't tell if the thing in front of me was a bf109 or an F18. A severe lack of clarity all over the map. In addition to that, The map was always stuttering and jumping (even after DLSS ) and no amount of changing settings or adding 3rd party software like xr toolbox or toolkit whatever it was called fixed the problem for me. Frustration reigned. Windows mixed reality just added to my misery and the only relief I had was that ED was working on it. The sad truth is that i spent most of my 3 years with DCS just trying to make it work or work again instead of actually flying. And i could go on, a number of my modules never worked properly. My F18 would only ever do 350 knots in full burn flat and level and its elevator was stuck in the stick in you crotch position. no settings adjustment ever managed to fix that one. My mossie lost speed even at full rpms and slowly fell out of the sky every time i flew it. Changing prop pitch made no difference whatsoever. If a Donkey and a cast iron bath had a love child, my p47 was it. It was a gutless wonder unable to climb even without stores. But hey, we have better fuses now.

So im on this train for a very long time and i still remember the days when Igor lived. But nowadays it seems that ED is either in financial problems or they have money hungry investors / owners that want to turn a buck from everything as soon as possible. So the Early Access became a new normal....I am personally very picky what modules will I buy mostly because I play a lot of Opfor planes and there very little if any modern opfor high fidelity modules. Despite ED core team being almost exclusively Russian. And I understand that in this day and age its hard to find good C++ developers. But those are things that can be rectified. Also it would be nice to hire a dedicated team of testers so that when a new patch is released it will not only work with existing modules but ALSO all the popular mods. Or inform the mod makers about breaking changes. The FC3 planes debacle is resonating to this day. There are a lot of mods and I think that ED stance towards madders has to change as well. They should release the SDK like bohemia interactive did for Arma 3. There would be lot of mods and creators that would want to take it to the next level will enter contract with ED to offer their modules for a price. I do not want to see another useless feature or early access module. As many players before me, I am missing a dynamic campaign and in-game Zeus (Olympus). Its realty really sad that it had to be third party passionate people that had to show ED how its done with Olympus. That feature, with dynamic campaigns, ATC / GCI controller feature should have been part of the game a long time ago.

Not sure if much was said on flight models and Aircraft completion.

Because they don't know how to make the maps bigger. It's an old Lock-On limitation from back when sims only had small areas of operation.

This is really sad; I've been invested in DCS since 2018, love nearly every aircraft I bought, didn't buy the F15, but have the Harrier M2000, and finally got VR in March this year (outstanding)for some reason, the spat between Razbam and ED has taken the enthusiasm out of the game, the only saving grace for me has been the F4 phantom and F14 (Thank you Heatblur). Because of this, I'm hesitating to buy the Kaiowa,Chinook, and any map since Sianai. I'm only investing in new hardware once a positive outcome that doesn't destroy the trust between ED and third parties prevails.

Sorry, but the Mega Update hasn't improved Spotting Dots for VR users. The option to turn it ON and OFF still doesn't work. You still see Big Black Dots in VR. ◾◾◾ ◾ ( This are 4 F-16 ) 😒 It's incomprehensible what ED is doing. For me, that means an immediate STOP to all the Modules I wanted to Buy. 😕

Those arguments are the exact same I've had for years. I started flying with DCS in 2008. By 2015 I'd had enough frustrations with stuff being constantly screwed up. The Updates damage as much as they fix. I call them F**kupdates. It seems the things affected by the F-updates were completely independent of what the updates were designed to fix. For example: An update to fix a missiles flight also made windshield wipers come on (or some other stupid BS thing). I stopped flying in 2015. I have approx. 3 hours of flight since then and I'm now trying to get back into it but I see NOTHING has changed. There are many new additions and improvements but DCS is still playing the same "Ponzi Scheme". I have modules from over a decade ago that are STILL NOT COMPLETE or that are Broken in any number of ways. People should BOYCOTT DCS purchases until they Finish and/or FIX the modules that we've already paid for before making ANY others. Last year, I spend THOUSANDS of dollars on my new rig specifically to fly DCS and with VR. I have not used the VR even once and yet the PC I now have far exceeds DCS most stringent requirements but DCS itself is too broken to bother with. I'm tired of being a Paying Game Tester.

They need to fix the F-15E situation before I buy anything else. Also, I want a Vietnam map. No more endless desert crap. Need civilian air traffic, interesting AI behavior, better damage models, dynamic campaign, decent ATC, and maybe integrate AI, which makes missions for you after you tell it what you want to do. Also, I love full fidelity planes but if they made lower fidelity stuff that's interesting, like an F-117, Mig-25, F-22, etc, similar to how they did the F-15C, Mig-29, etc, that'd be awesome. The ability to do recon, elint, sigint missions and gather intel, then go plan a mission on that intel would be awesome. The F-14 has the tarps pod, doesn't do anything. The viggen can do elint, along with other aircraft.

Just keep in mind that many of the projects (maps and aircraft) are made by 3rd party developers. If Heatblur -for example- isn’t updating something, that isn’t EDs fault. If some company makes an Iraq map, that doesn’t interfere with another company’s Afghanistan map. I agree that ED needs to get a move on with the campaign and other improvements, but a lot of the things people complain about aren’t EDs fault. They have contracts with 3rd party developers and those contracts limit EDs control over that product.
@Rokaize2 ай бұрын
If a 3rd party dev isn’t updating their module that is still on ED for continuing to sell it and not getting a contract that mandates that in the first place. There’s no excuse for ED to keep selling unsupported modules
@rudyvinck14472 ай бұрын
Exactly, ED have some issues, but just thinking about it, if there had been no ED for the last 10 years, we won't have almost any simulator to play with
@Q3ark2 ай бұрын
I have no problem with the third party stuff, Heatblur are still updating and improving their Viggen, how old is that thing! Urga are just about to drop a big update to the Normandy map, no dramas there. My problems are with the stuff made by ED. The super carrier is 5 years old, no meaningful updates released, the F16 radar symbology is wrong, the RWR is wrong, the INS is wrong. Similar problems with the hornet. Not good enough. The first party modules should be the best, they are far behind their third party developers

@@Rokaize "muh contract" okay and if a contract isn't being respected you know it takes time to enforce it, right? It has to be subject to arbitration or possibly lawsuit.

@@ChucksSEADnDEAD You don’t know anything about the specifics. I’m responding to someone saying ED might sign bad contracts, well, then stop doing that. Either way, Razbam is gone and is never coming back. I don’t care whose fault it is, it makes the entire business model look bad and untrustworthy

I stopped buying anything DCS because they are complete prices when you mention issues. People have been complaining about the Phoenix missile not tracking anything, and Jester is absolute garbage.
