As a new DCS player and someone who only has a few hours of flight time in the Flanker at this point I always thought the ERs were kind of useless and I was under the impression that unless you pull some good stealth manoeuvres with the ET missiles, you're basically just a flying target. This video has shown me otherwise and has expanded my horizon of what is possible in air-to-air combat. Thank you so much for making this video!

I'm glad you were able to learn some new things, especially since you've been flying for a couple years now! That's awesome, the flanker definitely has a bit of a learning curve in the beginning. Good luck with your sorties :)

This is a pie in the face to those people saying as soon as you actually make an effort to bvr properly and conventionally in the flanker you can't compete. Very enlightening video. The flanker is definitely one of those planes that is easy to learn but hard to master.
@SukhoiGC2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, the flanker is more than capable. People just like to write it off as bad because it only has fox-1s. And because it is in my opinion very hard to master, because it is a jack of all trades. Thanks for stopping by!

I'd just like to warn that if you end up fighting a pilot that is experienced in flying the Flanker, or is used to fighting good Flanker pilots, you're going to need to be a bit more creative and sparing with your shots because they will see all of this coming. They'll be suspicious of an ER dropping track so quickly after launch and come out of afterburner while popping flares as they turn back into you anticipating that sneaky ET shot. If it isn't a crowded AO they'll even be able to tell that you fired the ER at max range and won't turn away as quickly knowing they have a bit of time to defeat it because it's not a lofting missile, so you'll need to be a bit more aggressive and push closer to the MAR if you want to put real pressure on them (for example at 20:26 that first ER shot is not a dangerous missile, it was running low on energy half way to the target so it's not actually a missile they need to respect). A lot of BVR combat is a mind game and your average GS pilot will freak out the moment their RWR starts screaming at them, but the experienced pilots will keep calm and see through the bluff. I'm not in any way trying to knock on this video, these are good tactics, especially for people learning the basics of Flanker BVR because there really isn't enough information out there on it. I just think people should know that once they get used to employing these tactics, keep them as your base, but start thinking outside the box, push the limits a bit, don't get too comfortable with this one trick.
@SukhoiGC2 жыл бұрын
I don't know why but this comment was not brought to my attention. I appreciate your input, it is very good. There are some other tactics that you would have to implement against veteran pilot's but those kind of pilots are not the average. Awesome comment :)

Advised practice in Soviet af is firing thermal missile first then radar guided one.
@einarabelc52 жыл бұрын
makes no sense, the thermal would see the back of the bandit once it turns to react to the radar.
@CrimsonCorn1 Жыл бұрын
@@einarabelc5 I think it’s all about timing. If you fire the ER first then the bandit detects the launch turns around maybe cold and then the ET needs to travel a longer range potentially not reaching the bandit even if locked. You fire the ET first then the ER so that the ET hits right as the bandit goes cold.
@knightonwarbeck1969 Жыл бұрын
Amazingly enough, Soviet doctrine for ripple fire is the opposite; ET first followed by ER. If ER is fired first, ET might lock on to the heat signature of the ER. This is not modeled in DCS. ET is the most underrated missile in DCS. Up high the thing is hypersonic, especially when launched from a M1.5+. Good video. Will be your last video? Pity.

interesting video. I had the SU33 for free when buying the supercarrier and i tried yesterday for the first time on the GS server it was quite hard especailly when having the HUD symbology in russian and not in english like you. Is it possible to have the SU33 in english like the SU-27 ? Do you know if i buy the SU27, i'll get the J11A ?
@nickheisler2559 Жыл бұрын
Yes, all HUD settings can be changed to display in English if you want, that's how I fly it. The SU-33, SU-27, and J-11A are all in english on my system. Also I would recommend getting the Flaming Cliffs 3 Pack since it comes with all the flankers and a few others (SU-27, Su-33, J-11A, Su-25, F-15C, A-10A)

thanks for the tutorials! always preferred the redfor planes but could never get them to work, so ill have to see if i can put this into practice like i want. do you carry the default countermeasures or do you add more chaff? is the r77 actually inferior to the 27 in your eyes, or is it just a playstyle thing? of the flanker family do you consider one better than the others?
@SukhoiGC3 жыл бұрын
No problem! 1) I carry the default countermeasures, its a pretty good amount of chaff and flares. 2) The R-77 is part of a play style, they complement each other and I would rather have both than just one! 3) I think they are all fine honestly, but if I want to mix up my loadout. I prefer the J-11. Anything else you would like to see in particular?
@auqanova3 жыл бұрын
@@SukhoiGC ah so just earlier I played a flanker that wasn't the su33, and realized that only the 33 has few countermeasures, so I can imagine default works well with the others. As to what I like to see, it's just nice to have a youtuber who plays the more simulator type games, so I don't have anything specific to request.
