DCS: SUPERCARRIER OPERATIONS

An important and challenging feature of DCS: Supercarrier has been the development of night operations. Over the past year, we have been working on several aspects that will soon be released to Open Beta. These include new deck crew animations that utilize the new skeletal animation system, new animations that are specific to night operations and the inclusion of light wands. This will make deck operations at night much easier and more realistic. #dcsworld

the main reason this is so cool (and it is very cool) is the added sound effects and background chatter, I really hope some form of ambient noise is included with the update, it really brings the ship to life.

My daughter is 4 and she loves to hold the VR goggles on her face while I manage the controls and fly her around all the environments and weather conditions the Eagle Dynamics team has given us! I think back to the sims we thought were cutting edge technology compared to what we have now. Also to what the ED team will have for us in the future when my daughter is big enough for the VR goggles to fit her

Looks great, but I absolutely HATE all the surface ships around the carrier. It's totally unrealistic. I have done 8 six month deployments on carriers, this NEVER happens. NEVER. You will only ever see one other ship, and that's the plane guard. Typically one of the cruisers in your battlegroup. All the other ships are off doing their own things. They don't keep station around the carrier like in some WW2 movie.

Can you guys improve the idle animations? When standing still, the guys look absolutely rigid, they should have some animation such that their bodies dont stand absolutely still. Maybe they also look around randomly or sway slightly side to side.

I spent 4 years on the flight deck of the Theodore Roosevelt from 86 to 90. The realism here is staggering. Not many things give me chills, this did. One of the observation weather decks is on the island, about half way up (level 14 if I remember) is where we watched night ops. That yellowish light, all the colored batons, it all looked just like this. At that time we had 2 squadrons of Tomcats and 2 of the Hornets. The best time to watch was when we first went to sea. All the airwing had to go thru carrier quals. Shake off rust and for some it was their first real deployment. You would see many bolters and many shaky approaches. But you also saw every aircraft in action. The S-3 Vikings, the E-2 Hawkeyes, the Intruders and the helos. Fond memories indeed

Irl pilots only enter the cockpit when the plane is on the deck. They get the aircraft up from the hangars with the elevators to which the plane is chained down to. After that they prepare it for operation and tow it to a parking spot if neccesarry and only after that can the pilot start the walkaround.

I can remember years later when I picked up Falcon 3.0 (for my beefy new PC with a 486-DC33 CPU (for high fidelity flight model). I took a bus to the computer store which had a copy and I sat on the bus ride home, enjoying the beautiful box art and manual (there was nothing as invigorating as the smell of a new game manual opened for the first time). Also, I loved the keyboard overlays for the sims. Gunship, F-19 Stealth Fighter, Tank Platoon.. sigh.. Such fun days. I guess it’s why I don’t get jaded with the bugs and limitations of DCS in VR.. it’s the best game in town so enjoy what ya got and it’s worlds beyond what I grew up loving.
