DCS VR 4K | F-15E Strike Eagle | Burning Skies US | Gettin' Muddy With It

It was a dark and stormy day. I'm back in the Strike Eagle and once again on the Burning Skies US Command Center Server. It's weather Wednesday and you can tell! It's cloudy with lots of wind and rain making for some muddy targets to attack and the Strike Eagle is definitely up to the task!
Today We are catching my second sortie as my first one was interrupted by the server dropping me. I did include a bit of footage from that mission in the opening. I spent most of that sortie playing chicken with the SAM site, getting them to fire at me so that I could eventually push in close enough to drop some JDAMs.
The Strike Eagle's powerful ground radar allowed me to grab a look at the enemy vehicles and more specifically identify where their radar is located. I could then fly away and start setting targets for my JDAMs from relative safety.

Awesome video amigo, love seeing more people using this monster. I miss the old rwr sounds but I'm guessing they got rid of them (and the ability to change your laser code, lol) for a reason.

Thanks! It’s an amazing aircraft and I have been flying it almost exclusively (Sorry Hornet!). The new RWR is not my favorite and apparently they need to fix a few minor issues with it but for the most part, it represents the real deal. The laser code entry getting borked was just dumb. Hope they get an emergency patch out for that asap.

@@StrIIker-TV based brother. Regardless if they do though I already know what I'll be flying in all my sorties so really it would be nice, but I'll still be rippin around in the streagle. I'm the same way with it being my daily. I was flying the viper around and the day the 15E released was the actual last day I flew any of my modules apart from it and the occasional heli op in servers that absolutely needed it and even then it's less than 8 hours in other stuff. Mind you, that's of the 400+ I've put on dcs in that time flying the streagle every day 😅😂. Between flying it and scowering the web for every video I can find, it's more familiar to me than my car 🙄😆. I'll tell ya all day about setting up iff, GPS programs, blah blah blah. Ask me how to lower the back seat of my car to get in the trunk 🤷, I haven't the foggiest 🤣

@@looneyhoonzinc​​⁠Hah! I think many of us fall into that knowledge category.. knowing a heck of a lot more about our online transportation than the one in real life! It’s a fun obsession to have though! When I was much younger, the only way I could find interesting stuff was through magazines and the library (no internet). I even sent away for videotapes of military aviation stuff when I was lucky enough to see an ad in TV for it. It’s the golden age for us now! KZbin , web sites, Discord, etc. has it all and we can sit at home, flying these jets in realistic environments. It’s better to spend money on that next upgrade to your flight rig than throwing it away at a bar or something! (Good justification to have this hobby over others to one’s significant other)

Thanks brother! The Strike Eagle has some significant differences from the Hornet and it took me a while to cozy up to it but wow it’s fun once you master those controls. I do miss several things from the Hornet but they are coming to the Strike Eagle at some point in the distant future. I’ve been saving your new video to watch for when I am exercising on yea olde treadmill. I can’t wait!

Hey, I noticed that you use zoom on the A/G radar to help you pick targets. I never use zoom for realism sake, but perhaps I should start, because as clear and awesome as the Aero is (as you're aware), it's still quite challenging using the radar in this beautiful jet that I can't pull myself away from lol. Yeah the zoom does help. I also am more aware that I am recording and may post the video and it’s nice for the viewer to see the displays a little better (definitely when I zoom on the FLIR mfd while waiting for a weapon impact, I am doing it for the video). The HRM can be tricky and in the end, we are in a simulation of the real deal which may be “easier” to pick out detail which the sim lacks. I try to stay true to realism in general but do make some concessions to address shortfalls of the sim and the VR display. It helps me to enjoy the sim within the time constraints I have and maximize my time. The VR zoom I feel is within reason while in the cockpit for checking the displays. As you mentioned, even with super clear displays from headsets like the Aero, there’s room for improvement. Ultimately, do what works for you and have fun!! The Strike Eagle is so fun! Thank you for watching the video. It wasn’t what I had wanted to do due to some technical challenges but I think it worked out.

​​@@StrIIker-TVYeah you make some great points and it's ultimately about enjoying ourselves with what we have. By whatever means we find useful. Talk about flying it exclusively, I'm with you on that! This thing is a beauty in VR! I'm just blown away by it. Landing her in VR is something of pure joy once I learned proper aerobraking technique. It's really the first module that I think I've actually properly used good aero braking, thanks to Notso's excellent tutorials

@@redtailpilot Agreed re aerobraking! He most recent video really helped me out with the overhead break landing. I've had difficulty before because I approach it like a Hornet at times and didn't understand that I have to pull some G's and have a steep 10 degree nose down in the base to final break. Do you have any haptic feedback for your seat such as the JetPad and/or ButtKicker?

​@@StrIIker-TVYeah that lesson did wonders for my overhead approach as well. Yes I have the jetseat from Andrea's shop and love it. It adds so much to my experience in conjunction with my motion rig. So all of these toys combined (including PoinCtrl) makes the whole experience an incredible pleasure 😅

I feel ya man! I prefer the old sound and functions over what it is now. The pitfalls of using the early access very early in access. My understanding is that they (for some reason which escapes me) opted to use a placeholder sound and function of the RWR. Well, I suspect they will push an update soon-ish to fix the LGB code screwup and the RWR functionality.

main reason i never fly the SE, they should of at least did a better job with the module, hell did not get JDAM for months, no helmet, no SA, no harm, no mav. ect... @@StrIIker-TV
