We can start with the very basic first then. Should you run DCS in SteamVR, Oculus, MultiThread or Default mode? I mean, I think Multi Thread was the best option before (You have to mark VR mode in-game to run it in VR) However, it's such a mess to find the optimal settings in this game. Honestly, I think it's probably near impossible.

When all else fails, you can driver explore, like those AMD mod drivers..I'm still after over a year, exploring power or clocking, when DCS is just all over the place, which is always in multiplayer and not single player anymore, which is another bad way to test for me, multiplayer.

For those who has fps issues or they see no difference, delete the files of fxo and metashaders2 in saved games after updates. I have seen 20 fps difference sometimes.

All manufacturers have a dead pixel policy. - Sony considers acceptable up to 9 dead pixels in a 2 kUSD television set (65" X90J), be them contiguous or not. - Apple suggests "a low number of pixels to be dead or stuck is acceptable". - Dell accepts from 6 to 16 dead pixels (they are more strict on bright ones) in each panel, depending on size and price range. So having a couple of dead pixels in a panel may be not even noticeable, and you may never find them if you do not search them. Have you asked Varjo and Pimax what policies do they have? I cannot believe Pimax, with their dismal customer service, cares about a couple of dead pixels.

A lot of G2 users are moving to the Quest 3, including me. It's a little more field of view and you can see it all clearly and move your eyeballs naturally.

NIS is great for those of us on older systems just scraping by. I am running very old tech, an i7 2600k a gtx 1070 in vr on hp reverb g1 and formerly my settings were all the lowest possible, running openxr with 85% nis up scaling to bump the frames around 40 if I’m lucky. Now I can keep that 40ish frames and turn a few graphics setting back up, and the native upscaling is far superior to the openxr which tends to be a jaggy mess. I can put up with a little ghosting for those performance gains. Though it would be nice if there was a fix.

Thanks Steve, sorry to here you had so many issues with your Quest 3. I had a good one, no dead pixels and mura not that noticable. Fan did kick in once when I turned the headset on, but I powered it off and on again and it's behaved ever since. I completely second you opinion on the Asynchronous Spacewarp, feels smoother than the G2, but I was really happy how smooth the G2 was as well. I've done some AB testing though and it definately is smoother on the Quest 3 headset. Great video, thanks for sharing DCS, will get back to this one day!

Yes, as I await my Honeycombs, I’m inside DCS with HOTAS and a Pimax Crystal. I’m discovering I need some extra interface - mouse, mouse trackball … something. Just to start up a P-51, you have to hit the start switch , then the magnetos, then the mixture control. Great if you had 3 hands ! I would love to see your DCS settings as well as any comments on hand tracking options. Is it ready for FS ??

At some point FSR in AMD settings just stopped changing resolutions. It seemed like the FSR was working better in AMD options than in DCS. The DCS world FSR and NIS doesn't really do much in 6600 for 1080p. It does look blurry and when you pause then it clears up a little. When it comes to Frame rate, tweaking shadows get different results.

Hate to say it, but Pimax Crystal, DFR, Quad Views and and still using 2x MSAA. is the best for me , with great performance DLSS just to cutting it at the moment

ED confirmed earlier DLSS 3.5 will be added in a later 2.9 update. So if you're a 40 series owner, VR should get a lot better. 2.0 is a bit sucky for VR

If you use Sharpening then in OXR Toolkit leave CAS OFF, it´s the same. I use CAS OFF and Sharpening 0.6

Yep, same conclusions here...DLSS doesn't help my situation. However, sitting on the carrier and switching from MSAA to TAA mode, I'm in disbelief...all the shimmering we've suffered from all these years is basically gone! Same with the roof structure of the parking covers at Tbilisi where shimmering was awful...gone! Anyone else seeing this? As for FPS and smoothness I guess I'll be sticking with the "forced smoothing" at 60fps on the Crystal, at least until the 72Hz mode goes public. Haven't tried the Crystal's motion smoothing in a while though, perhaps it is worth checking if it has been fixed by any Pimax updates, or the new DFR mode or TAA, etc.

Yep, Motion Smoothing is still apparently broken on the Crystal. The FPS fluctuates within 3-5 frames of where is should be locked (e.g. 45) and the motion is in fact...not smooth :-) Oh well.

My experience too. TAA cleared the annoying shimmers but soften the cockpit panels for me. DLAA dealt with shimmers and at the same time gave a clearer cockpit so I would be sticking with DLAA for now while the tweaking continues. 2.9 openbeta update is a big step in the right direction for dcs. The future looks bright with Vulkan coming

i was struggling with my 4070 but dlss has cracked it, still need turbo on the openxr toolkit but it is now playable with texture high. can’t wait for dlss3.5 😁

DLSS makes the cockpits a lower resolution, but I am getting around 80-90FPS in the 4080 with it. The problem is the MFDs, HUD, and Text all look like a lower resolution. It's like backwards. Close up looks bad, but the distance looks better. I tried all of them and went back to MSAA, but now I can run MSAA at 4x at 60fps with the 4080 in the G2. Not sure what they did, but before I would only get around 40. Oh yeah on the F-16 the little latches on the cockpit are now animated into the locked position when it closes.

DCS is easy to record now with Shadowplay to record your desktop mirror display of either eye. I record at 2560×1440

Hello one question I play pc/vr and yesterday I had an idea is it possible to put better resolution in your dominant eye and lower one in your non dominant, I think it would work because most of what you see comes from the dominant eye, so lowering the non dominant eye quality would be pretty much unnoticeable but it would leave more pc power for better resolution for the other eye

Hi, Hoping you can help with the following issue. I have been using Quest 3 and using Virtualdesktop XR to run both MSFS 2020 and DCS 2.9 and it has been awesome. Unfortunately, all of a sudden DCS will not open in VR , it only displays the wide screen. It does work with no issue in VR in . Not sure what happened to cause it to stop working in DCS. It is weird, after updating DCS the options for filters different from MSAA and the upscaling are in gray and I can't select them. What's going on? I use to lunch DCS from DCS Utility. I trued to lunch it with VR and without VR, the game still starts in a vertical window. Maybe I should change some other settings? Like using full screen? Or any idea?

What about the photon latency? You must be seeing flickering? Fire up the debug tool monitor. Your getting over 100 latency figures.

Do you have any issues when trying to spot aircraft sub 5nm, I'm using a quest3 with high resolution settings and I'm struggling to make out targets and maintain visual, even when I do I'm barely able to identify what plane I'm looking at, VR zoom doesn't help either due to it just being a fov reduction instead of scaling properly

I would love to see the crystal and what you get out of it. For me it seems I get stuck again at the same FPS each round never reaching those 90 - I do like quality GFX settings (4090, Crystal, OpenXR, DCS-MT). So in newer Maps I get around the 45-50 (Marianas is got for a stress test) and in caucasus around 72-78 when rather empty.

Steve just watching a little of your video you said DLSS no improvement I noticed on the graph you was CPU bound I was reading this bit earlier If you are CPU-limited, meaning that CPU computations and not your graphics card are limiting performance, you may see little to no improvement. Further, if the scene is not very graphically demanding, you may not see much change. You will see the most change over high-density scenes like large cities.

Have a 4090 + 7950 and there's 0 fps difference on carrier deck (72 fps average); always get 90 fps natively in the air so no point usng DLSS since VR is capped at 90.

What do you really think about Quest 3 screen quality when you have tried all these high-end VR headsets as of today ? In my opinion the colors looks dogshit compared to Bigscreen beyond or Varjo Aero from what I've seen in videos. The Quest 3 was my first VR headset and I'm thinking about selling it out, while the screen clarity is okay, I can't stand those low saturated colors and most importantly, bad black levels I'm going to wait a few years till better VR headset see the light for "affordable prices", I hope to see well-rounded headsets for around 1000$ but not more, in the near future.
