Jabbers, what do you think about a decent JESTER tutorial in terms of detecting/identifying targets? I get shot down by enemies that JESTER didn't even detect and I've got a hard time to give him the right commands to do so. A tutorial would be much appreciated. Went into the merge last night with my cousin as RIO. Sorry, with my cousin as ballast. Got my nose on him. "Can you lock the bandit? "No" "Can you see his blip?" "No" "Can you see him out of your window?" "No" FFS Loosed off a hail-mary Phoenix in ACM. Tracked, splashed. Looked for ejection lever for RIO... Good tutorial. At least I know what I did was right now.

I'm sure you know this already, but if you don't you can click on the gear icon in the corner and change the playback speed to 0.5 or 0.75. It's not the ideal solution, but if he's going a bit fast around the pit this might help you track what he's doing in there.

I never jump into the back seat and wonder, since filming, have any updates made changes so this can be done from the Jester Menu? I keep telling Jester to Lock on to Enemy Target (I can see their icon!) and he frequently won't. Most of the time he will give me a Phoenix lock on a formation and I will see the diamond, but I am unsure if that diamond covers all the aircraft within in? Maybe a better ask is...can I ask Jester to lock onto the next one?

Jester prioritizes the targets based on threat, as far as I know u cannot tell him to lock the next... As for your issue with him not locking an eny, are you sure he has IFFd the target, if he hasn't yet you have to say lock target ahead, not specifically enemy

(For some reason I can't view Jester's station by hitting the 2 key) I had a formation of bombers locked on and I didn't touch any switch settings, wondering if default would work. I rippled off 3 AIM-54's at 3 bombers. To my great disappointment, I hit one bomber and 2 missiles tried to hone in on the falling wreckage. I wish I could sort this out a bit easier!

Priority is auto set, you literally do nothing, front to back seat is press 1 for pilot 2 for Rio

Run through the in game tutorials, they'll teach you how to use the weapon select switch. You'll have to push the switch down after selecting sparrows in order to select the phoenix.

I was gonna ask if theres a way to do at least scenario 1 using only just Jester and without jumping in the RIO seat. But I guess somebody already asked and answer was given. Instead; two follow up questions. Is there a way to get jester reprioritize ? I saw a PSA on reddit that Jester also adds friendlies into the priority queue. Anyway to confirm that or get him to stop doing that without jumping in the RIO seat ? Playing alone and in MP which doesnt allow switching afaik.

Jester doesn’t add friendly to the priority queue because it’s all done by the computer. I’ve never seen him do this. You can have him change targets yes, not sure off hand but you can tell him “next Target” I believe it’s called in the A2A menu

I tested a simple mission of three IL76's and I did not get priority queue numbers until it was really close (about 30Nm or so). And even then it was a fleeting moment as Jester keeps losing the contacts.

Hey Jabbers, early on during the hype, you showed a video of CCRP lobbing over terrain. After reading the manual, I realized that this was done through an IP to ground TGT mode for CCRP bombing. If you don't do it this way you have to visually acquire the target within 10nm - which obviously makes SEAD impossible using target designation rather than IP designation mode. My question is: can this be performed with Jester? I've tried multiple possibilities and it seems like the answer is no. what really sucks is that no human wants to sit in the RIO seat on a bombing run to plug in 3 mathematical variables to calculate IP to TGT point and ensure the computer calculates it when you designate the IP and that's it, whilst in multiplayer you can't go to the back seat to do it yourself. For some reason I cannot login to post on the ED forums, and I know you have a direct line to heatblur and extensive experience with the module, so i was wondering if you could shed some light on my difficulty if I am doing something wrong, and if not, to please inform heatblur, and request that a button to calculate IP to Ground TGT be implemented in the Jester menu for CCRP bombcat lobbing. Thanks in advance Jabbers, you've been great over the past few months hyping me up to no end in regards to this module.

What did you do wrong at 3:25 ish to lose lock on the Radar? I have had that issue working as a RIO for my friend. I am not sure why I tend to lose targets under 15 miles even when we are looking right at them in TWS.

If I had to guess, it goes out one of the ends of the ever narrowing cone. Remember, its a cone, not a triangle. As they get closer, they get more likely to go above or below it.

I also wonder about this, because the instant you launch an AIM-54, the Tomcat puts itself in TWS Auto, precisely to stop Lieutenant Doofus from allowing the contacts to leave the scan area. It seems to do a spectacularly poor job of it. Everybody seems to have a bunch of "Fox 3... And he's gone" experiences. I would have thought that TWS Auto would at LEAST keep a fired-upon bandit at the edge of the cone like the F-15 does with any soft-locked contact. But it seems to be more like the Mirage, where as soon as you soft-lock someone the antenna specifically scans the part of the sky where the bandit isn't. In the Mirage that's a bug. In the F-14 I wonder if it's a bug or just the vacuum tube computer getting in over its britches.

Is there a way to tell Jester to hit that "Next Launch" button from the pilot seat? Switching to the RIO seat isn't possible in MP, and sometimes Jester will bug low priority targets far away, leaving bandits right in front for later...

Jabbers! I'm sure you can help me out with this one. I'm doing exactly as in the video/tutorial above but my AIM-54 keeps missing and missing its targets. Does not matter if it's 10 miles out, 20, 30, 40 or even more. TWS, 4 slow cargo planes with in 15 miles.. still misses all of them. What am I doing wrong? It's just crazy. They seem to track in the beginning but then just going straight/ OR sometimes trying to track but looses all its speed so even a cargoplane manage to escape. And yes, I fire from high alt with great speed beyond sometimes mach 1.2 etc. I've red some pages that says the Phoenix is totally messed up after an update but it cant be this messed up. @@Jabbers It was not a critique of you, but a statement of the level of complexity of flight simulators compared to other simulators or games. To be successful, it is not enough just to fly the plane, but have the knowledge of its systems, procedures and specifications. Add to this situational awareness, a trained instinct for air combat maneuvering, and a whole lot of other stuff which sets the entry bar really high for new comers. There is a reason all the pilots have a higher education, and some even end up as astronauts later on.

As a RIO there is an option to switch a flip for the Aim 54 to get also active right after launch (I believe PH ST?). I somewhere read that when launched in this mode with active radar tracking we got about ten NM less flighttime. So is this nonsense or is this a way to quick fire a full active missile on an opponent at a range larger than 30 NM?

The mode you are talking about is the mode I used at the end, the ACM cover up from the pilot seat

@@Jabbers There are a couple ways to launch a Phoenix active off the rail. The way he's talking about is with a switch in the RIO pit, and it allows the RIO to launch one active off the rail. I'm not sure if it's functionally the same as the ACM mode or not.

Not moronic, but gonna be a huge learning curve if you don’t play flight sims. The base game is free, you get a ww2 aircraft and a Russian attack plane. Try those, see if you like it, and then decide what you wanna do ;)

How do you lock a target in TWS that the targeting computer wont lock automatically? I've had situations where I could see targets on TWS and they were either unknown or hostile, but the computer didn't lock them.

They could be either faded or notched your radar track (often with a big X on the symbol) or have missing target information because of short tracking times. Your best bet as a rio would be to acquire them in pulse or pd stt so you wont lose one of them.

Yz and 50nm is a pretty far shot, typically you aren't gonna hit even a human target at that range

Flying the F-14 B and im confused on the phoenix system. My questions: Does the system default to TWS and I change it from there? 2.I cant seem to be able to get Jester to lock onto anything beyond 20 miles. I know I'm missing a step. How do I command Jester to track/lock targets from further out? What is the command sequencing to achieve this?

Gonna be hard to answer without seeing it, but ideally if yiu have a target in from of you on radar (not just data link) you can say lock target ahead, or if you know is a bandit cause it's been marked by jester as one lock bandit ahead

As for tws, sure.... I guess it'd very situational... Targets past about 40 nm I usually just watch in RWS, tws when I get within a range I wanna shoot or track faster

1:30 so jester has done that automatically and as soon as i launch a phoenix he will automatically select the next tws target? so i could littereally hold the fire button 6 times and run away and they will all go for seperate targets? is there a time delay or could i ping them off 1 after the next??
