Hi. Thank you for the effort in making a video. My long story short. I cleaned out the valve body and megatronic as the gearbox started acting up. There was gunk everywhere. Rinsed and flushed. Car went perfectly for two days. Then errors again. Removed valve body once again. The amount of metal pieces convinced me there is some internal damage. Something is grinding away. Removed and stripped the gearbox. The sping with plastic retainers was the issue. One spring was actually broken. And grinding away on the plate. Creating metal shavings. Rebuilt the whole box. New spring kit and retainers. New seals. New clutch pack. New internal filter. Assemble everything. Now still have a issue. When it gets hot/radiator fan on temperature while driving in traffic. And you pull away it will give a error again. And its almost as if its slipping out of gear slightly just after shifting. Error codes currently P0965 P2714. P0796. The car is with a "specialist" for 3 months now unable to resolve the issue. He has obtained another megatronic and cloned. Still the same errors. Any advise please. Its costed me a fortune so far. And still dont have use of the vehicle. Should have sold/burn it long time ago.

hi, fault codes generally indicate that signals and readings are outside set parameters, and computer will then throw a fault code. is this guy a mechanic or a transmission specialist? there is a difference. cheers

@@YepThatsIt he is a gearbox specialist. He has however admitted defeat. And wants to throw money at the problem by replacing more and more components. I could have done the same i guess. But the question remains. Do you have any suggestions or a idea of what it could be?

@@YepThatsIt hi. I have finally received the vehicle back. But intermittedly it give gearbox malfunction when i put it in park. If i switch it off and restart. Everything is perfect. Drives fine. Shifts beautifully. Only when you stop at home. And put in park. If you put it in neutral. It doesnt give error. Only when you put it in park. Any advice? Correction. It does it in Nuetral aswell.

Hi. Thanks for the excellent, instructive video. I bought a 2012 Focus diesel with the DCT450 trans knowing that it had similar defects to those described in this video. Only minor differences between the Focus and Mondeo were around access. I had to remove the cooling fan and choose to unbolt the module from the lower LH front guard so I could move the harness away from the front of the trans. No demagnetizer at home to demagnetize the solenoids, and being in Covid-19 lockdown in NZ I couldn't drive out to work to use one. Solution was to strip down the AC motor on my small drill press and use the stator as a demagnetizer...just had to watch duty cycle as it gets hot quick. Valve body disassembled and cleaned, solenoids and sensors cleaned, internal filter back flowed unit reassembled. End result it works like a new one. Thanks heaps for the advice. Beers are on me. hi, in days before demagnetizers were available as easily, my old man did same with an electric motor with armature removed. we use to put solenoids inside a pcv pipe and pass though a few time. but, like you said will warm up quite quickly...good work and cheers looking forward to your beers

I bought a mk4 cheap with a very badly behaving transmission, followed your videos, did the clutch and shift fork relearn on Forscan, and it's now working well! Firstly, brilliant video! I’ve just strip out the valve block from my 2014 Ford Galaxy, fault was stuck shuttle valve, not reverse, and limited gear function. I’ve found a small nylon restrictor on the workshop floor, probably come from outboard spears, but just to make sure, as I can’t find anywhere for it to fit! Can I send you a photo? If so how. Hi, Thank you for helping so many people with this. I was getting these error codes (despite being vigilant about changing trans fluid and filter before schedule) and was about to do this service procedure on the mechatronic unit but when I got under the car I saw trans fluid dripping near the bell housing. Any home mechanic fix for this at all or do you need to drop the whole transmission?

hi, it depends where it is leaking from? if inside bell housing, then you will need to remove trans. cheers

@@YepThatsIt yes, appears to be from inside the bell housing. Local trans shop says once main seal goes it usually results in clutch contamination carried through the rest of the system. Full or partial rebuild depending on clutch wear. Does this make sense?

Hi, great video. Did you ever came across P2849 and p284C code? Basically transmission is shifting to the 7th gear and not allowing to select any other gear.

hi, do all basic checks first incl battery strength and good earth connections. you will need to mucking around turn off/on - select - etc many times as the sensors are heavily contaminated with debris, until it gets a clear signal to the tcm. cheers

That cable with the 3 wires is that one attached to the input shaft sensor if so how is that removed if not were is such part located. Part7H103B many thanks dude

Hey, I'm keen on hearing your opinion on an issue with this transmission I'm having. I'm receiving this same P0766 Shift Solenoid D stuck off straight after a normal service was done by a transmission shop which was well known for working on these gearboxes. Could something cause this fault after a service like overfilling? Ford did a recal and fixed the issue for a day and same issue returned. Thanks for your very informative videos.

hi, normal service on these trans is just a fluid change. best to remove front cover and clean magnets as well. sometimes you will need to bench test solenoids to see if viable to flush or replace them. make sure you check all our 6dct vids for more info kzbin.info/aero/PLQLkuOdKuFotLWdTOl3KCK0xpgTu7CEJH and also read through past comments. cheers

Thanks for those videos! This is the only place where in the car repairs are shown instead of full stripdown. I managed to remove the mechatronic unit and cleaned solenoids and plates. Upon reinstallation of the unit I can't push it all the way back in. I can't locate it on two locating pins and it goes in by about 10-15mm but then it gets stuck It feels like it's stuck against something. My suspicion was two long locating pins and slight misalignment of one of the plates so with tight alignment the pin gets stuck. The pin goes through both plates so if one is slightly misaligned the pin gets stuck The other suspect I have is that I have moved the mechanism when cleaning or though holes in the box body when the mechatronics is removed. Could you please let me know if any is a possible cause or is there anything else?

hi, thats an interesting one ! maybe the metal gasket fell off ? you need to recheck your work. make sure you torque the valve body bolts as per manufacturers specs or can cause valve to bind up. cheers

@@YepThatsIt the gasket between both plates is my suspicion, but i can't see any of these parts to be misaligned. Both steel gaskets on each side are in place and on both pins I will try to remove one long locating pin to see if it fits in the valve body. I don't think there is anything in the gearbox that I could move to block any of the sensors? would you be so kind and share torque values for the valve body? I was actually thinking about it and used 10Nm for all bolts and wanted to use the same to bolt the body back, but it would be best to know the spec. I had a technical manual for this box but probably deleted it.

@@mkaminski100 Just in case anyone comes along, seeing as this old, the valvebody is made up of 3 parts and the locating pins that slide through them are a very snug fit. If it doesn't slide on then the three parts aren't perfectly aligned. Remove all bolts from valve body, remove two bolts from gasket and find something that is the same size as the locating pins to use to hold it all in alignment while reassembling. Not difficult, just annoying.

Hello,i'm from switzerland and I found your superb video which helped me to better understand the operation of getrag gearboxes unfortunately I have a problem with my evo x with the dct470 gearbox. I have a p2766 input shaft 2 sensor poor performance and I have the 2,4,6 gears which no longer work with the reverse gear which is not going very well, I have to go up in the engine revs to reverse it. I will just need help thank you.

G’day mate, Can you help me? I have watched your videos endlessly trying to save myself the 5grand for a replacement gearbox. I have a Ford Powershift DCT450 that had stuck solenoid’s so have followed you very informative steps to thoroughly clean a test every solenoid and replace back into the valve body. All went back in cleanly without issue. The battery was disconnected the whole time, but now back together I have no crank or even an attempt to start. What in the world have I done wrong. One point which I cannot get my head around is the fact that the car will not lock but will unlock on the remote fob, could this be an issue alone the lines of the immobiliser losing program? Any advise would incredibly grateful.

hi, if you have put it all back together correctly, sometimes you need to turn off and on a few times. make sure battery is strong ( low internal resistance ) and fully charged. make sure the fluid level is correct in trans, you will need to get to operating temp, let cool to checking temp and adjust fluid level. cheers

hi, all fault codes need to be fixed and cleared then trans will readapt on its own once reaches operating temp. shifting manually 1-2-3-2-1, then 4-5-6-5-4 etc as you drive may help speed up adaption. if you have no movement after replacing or cleaning solenoids, try turning vehicle on/off a few times, just make sure you have enough fluid in trans. cheers for beers, link is in description

these new cars must be a good source of income and maybe frustration, atleast scan tools make life easier. im a neandathall i miss my turbo 400's and torqueflights now if they just had overdrive , my friend installed an external overdrive years ago on his high perf 68 chrysler coupe.

@@YepThatsIt myself and a few mates are getting back to the older cars yet putting supplimental pure hydrogen cells on them , my mate a mechanical engineer has been playing with HHO since 78 even on that his exhaust emission on a 60's beetle were better than the latest car we have today , nothing new ofcourse .. ive built many hho cells in the past but not pure hydrogen my old rodeo got remakably better fuel economy and responsiveness. i see the new one litre turbo deisel hyundai gets close to 2000kms to the tank , its meant to be comming to Australia so they say in the auto magazines etc.

thats so cool, my old man had a HHO generator on his old car, he reakons it ran better and used a bit less fuel.....i just recently bought a HHO Carbon Cleaning machine and have been doing carbon cleans ( i may put up vids soon ). the idea was to clean out the intake/exhaust system. the greatest result i got was a t4 VW TDi that wouldnt rev over 3500rpm, after about 1/2 hour it cleared and would redline if you let it. however for now looks like its better as a maintenance tool but i still am doubtful it would/could clear a complete carbon blockage of cats or a dpf. cheers

@@YepThatsIt ive dissasembled engines that had supplimentary hho on them i kid you not , squeaky clean inside like the engine had never been used., i do find though after lots of kms i needed stainless exhaust pipes, or maybe internaly coat them.. we ran an engine on 100%pure hho once no other fuel source it ran so clean zero emissions we just had it at high idle with zero advance still liked to backfire, pure hydogen is best as an alternative fuel ,the actor jack nicholson had a pure hydrogen car in the eighties he was all over the news.

@@closertothetruth9209 yeah i`ve been thinking of getting a PEM hydrogen generator so you can run on pure hydrogen not browns gas. researching what the membrane is about? i drilla little hole in the rear mufflers that don`t get hot enough to burn off condensation, will make them last a tad longer ( see my vid ) hope you`re making vids too bloke ! sounds like you do some interesting stuff cheers

Gday. I'm having issue with gear change. Oil always changed every 40km. About 40 K ago and replaced clutch cover seal was leaking. Car has been good. No shudders ever or clutch issues. Other day wouldn't change into second gear just neutral sort of change. Stopped and started again. Same thing. But if manual mode selected went from 1st to 3rd after some hesitation. Has a fault code for unable to select second gear. Do U suggest I remove the valve body to clean out ? Fault code P074A:00-27 2011 Mondeo with 380/000km

hi, fault codes are generally related to electrical or sensor issues. probably best option to start with after checking all the basics. if you have bits of plastic in the fluid or lower part of trans, then you need to remove trans. cheers

hi, like all transmissions, regular service, add more magnets and bypass cooler and they usually last much longer. cvt, dct and dsg transmissions need even more shorter and regular service intervals. on 6dct450 we advise to remove the front cover every 2nd service and clean the magnets, not just a fluid change. cheers

hi, they make it confusing, but I am thinking it is CSPS2 the clutch/shift pressure solenoid 2 for even gear pressure control....hopefully no one has removed the plugs at bottom of trans - the detent bolts for the shift rails, one the gearshift fork 4 and the other is for fork 1 ( the 2 on top of trans are for fork 2 & fork3 ) cheers

@@YepThatsIt, cheer for the reply. The code it comes up with is P0766 shift control solenoid d stuck off. Everyone else says get new gearbox. At stage now were I would follow ur video and clean the solenoids but do u think this is a different fault? I can't find a mechanic will to try anything other than new gear box but the car value is less than a gearbox..... any help much appreciated, thanks

hi, for some reason mechanics are bit scared of these transmissions...always check the basics first, then work up from there...even if you stuff it up yourself, you will be up for another transmission anyway... however you will risk learning something, self satisfaction, confidence, proving your advisers wrong, saving some coin etc. non of us was born with knowledge and experience so go get it ! cheers

@@butcher776 we use solvent called x55 or 1215 which is not 100% dry but dry enough and has reasonable smell for enclosed areas. cheers

Can I ask why you wouldn't have bothered had the fluid been really dirty? Mine was when this error code first appeared and now I cant get one set of gears. Shift fork B stuck was also appearing, although that's gone since i changed the fluid and filter. Is it worth me trying this? It's only saying Pressure Control Solenoid D stuck on.

hi, if fluid contains shredded pieces of plastic then means the plastic spring guides/holders are damaged and your repair will be short lived. on these you need to remove front cover and clean magnets every 2nd service or your solenoids and sensors will get contaminated once the magnets have covered in fine metallic debris and cant attract more. the internal filter is inside trans, the external filter cartridge is the cooling line filter. cheers

@YepThatsIt thanks for the reply. Fluid contained no debris whatsoever. Only DTC I'm getting now is P7214 Pressure control solenoid d stuck on. Only have 1 ser of gears. Any recomendations. Just hope I don't need a whole new gearbox

Hi Sir, I have a Ford C-Max with the same gearbox. I have changed the clutch and solenoids, and the car runs normally when it is cold, but when the engine temperature reaches 90, a gearbox problem appears on the screen and lose reverse. It gives the code p2849-A0. Do you have an idea about the problem. Do it need changing the TCM?

Hi just a quick question if you'd be so kind to answer, but does cold weather affect the solenoids? I had a problem with a fault code about the solenoids six months ago at the end of winter so we started first with a transmission and engine oil and filter change and it cleared it up completely. First frost we had a week ago and all of a sudden it's back with a vengeance with fault codes solenoid c and d stuck off....so does the cold weather affect the viscosity of the oil in the transmission and cause problems? Or is it just coincidence? Sorry if I don't make complete sense, I'm a woman and not entirely sure with mechanical issues lol

@@fancyfeast4610 if a few solenoids are problemsome or are leaking then yes, if most seem ok then a flush is usually enough for a while. add magnets and clean them regularly. cheers

Is there anything else we should check? Also if I buy new ones where's the best place to source them? I'm in nz. Ford mondeo zetec 2.0td 2014 diesel. I can't seem to find anywhere online. I'd really appreciate and be thankful for your advice 👍

Please i need your help, i have a mondeo 2014 mk4 with poweshift automatic, the transmission was leaking oil but was working properly, i took it to the shop and the mechanic did a rebuild, replaced everything. Now the car won't shift properly after calibration. The mechanic told me that he will try installing a software for the transmission from ford server, in case that doesn't work.... what seems to be the problem?!

hi, depends on your scan tool. these trans have more than 2 solenoids operating in each gear. often c & d will refer to gear 3 & 4 operation. you will be wise to bench test all solenoids and sensors. you can contact me via facebook link in vid description if we need to share pics & beers. cheers

I drive with the scanner in the car (2017 mondeo diesel wagon) all the time now, it is logging the P0766 code as pending on cold start drives only. It clears with zero evidence of its existence after non recurrence on the second start after a few km. No wonder useless dealers can never reproduce the problem. It’s been back a dozen times over its 98k km life with them always saying theres nothing wrong with it. Theyre not interested in my findings either they want to reproduce themselves. It’s a company car so i am stuck dealing with these mouth breathers at the dealership. Otherwise i’d fix it myself.
