Is there a substitute for pure turpentine if I can’t get it, like naphtha or something else? Thank you

Be aware, the resin won’t last in the bottle forever. The turpentine will eventually evaporate (even if the lid has never been opened) and harden, so you will want to apply your decal soon after you get your shipment. Also. if you have painted your helmet with any sort of gloss spray paint, the turpentine will remove the gloss. You can put a light oil on those parts (the oil from your skin works best). If you’re using your helmet for reenacting this won’t matter in the long run as your helmet gets banged/scratched up, but if you’re doing a parade helmet just be aware. I like to measure out the approximate size of the decal and mark it with a pencil so I don’t have too much resin beyond the edges.

But why did you not trim the decal closely before applying it?? The tiny, clear edge all around will always be visible at certain angles, revealing it to be fake. Mais pourquoi n'avez-vous pas coupé le décalque de près avant de l'appliquer ?? Le petit bord clair tout autour sera toujours visible sous certains angles, révélant qu'il est faux.

hi, i got a question: is it really necessary to use terpentine? or can i use isopropanol for example? i need to buy terpentine for only one decal but i already have isopropanol. after cleaning i would use a heat gun to dry. thank you for your answer! :)

I've just bought some decals from this place. to be honest , I would only use pure turpentine ,not turpentine substitute. for how much you pay for the decals, if you ruin them it'll be a false economy. Any leftover turpentine will always be handy for other jobs like cleaning paintbrushes so won't go to waste

the turpentine will dissolve only the excess resin glue. if you use something else you will destroy the decal and certainly also the painting.

Lol! Don't want to nitpick.. But I'm going to nitpick.. Why do you use an early type of a SS decal on a M42 helmet? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever!

you're right !! actually it's a decal SS QUIST, nothing to do on an M42. here it was to make the video because then the helmet had to be repainted. but we can find decals EF SS 1st type on M42 from EF and also decals CA POCHER 1st type on some M42.

I have a better way. First, apply a layer of diluted PVA glue. Next, put your decal in warm water. After, apply your decal to the helmet. Finally, put on a layer of PVA over it again.
