Have you considered doing a 3 door? 2 Door driver's side, 4 door passenger side... but painted so it looks intentional and finished. Bonus points for using a 2 door front door and turn the back piece suicide using the 4 door opening. Similar to Mazda RX-8 or Saturn SC coupe, just with a 50's look. I suppose side impact could be an issue on these things, but they are full frame cars, didn't even have seatbelts required when new.

Dan, before I found your channel, I thought that work like this and also patching rust, welding, paint, etc. needed to be done by "professionals" to get it done "right." Then I started just doing it my way, and have had great results! Thanks for all the inspiration!!

@brandonford8092 Жыл бұрын
With dents like that, a deflated foot/basket/soccer ball works wonders. Put it in through one of the inner structure holes, then inflate. You may need to strap a 2x4 to the inner structure to keep it from moving. Edit Obviously deflate the ball and remove it if it's in the door, but in the rear quarter you can leave it to remedy the "oil can" problem

Best looking conversion yet you cannot tell it was done. Excellent paint it a matt black the whole car and do not stess it for once it pretty good really. I knew and old timer body guy was a pro he heat the metal cherry red then he used a hammer and dolly to smash the metal and it shrinkd it to get rid of oil cannning in several spots. It not that difficult to do. You could make this car pretty nicc. Nothing wrong with 56 man come on.

Old auto body man here. The panel gaps on American made vehicles from back in the day, were never very accurate. A lot of times they could be just about perfect, but on some cars that were low mileage , super clean cars, they would be all over the place. Frequently we would send the car out the door with better gaps then when they came in. So, unless it’s a horrible gap, it’s probably okay. For your viewers, next time you’re out and see a nice older car, take a look at the gaps .you might be surprised! Fun videos dude!

Your drivers door fit can be corrected by shimming the body mounts up at the hinge pillar. Body mounts on the tri fives need to be adjusted and shimmed to make all the sheet metal fit correctly. And doing this, you can make all the sheet metal align better than new. First, adjust the frame to be square with the shell, then begin shimming for the best door fit working forward until you get the fenders fitted. Square up the core support until the hood fits the opening Hardest part is the body mounting hardware. Get them all loose or ready for new replacement. If all gos well you done in a day with really amazing results.

I know you have mentioned it before on your other projects, but letting people know what settings your using and your wire weights for stitching in the patch panels is super helpful to get a grasp of what seems like a insurmountable project, all the Sheetmetal your doing is pretty slick, its nice to see a job from start to finish with these conversion hot rods so the common man in a garage doesn't get totally baffled on these types of projects
@JamesBrown-cx3xf Жыл бұрын
This 56 seems pretty solid and the conversion is your best one to date , you asked so , no to the hood scoop , fitted front bumper and just this once if you could find a period correct bench seat . Buckets in the tri fives look bad , pull that motor sell it , a nice 265 or 327 simple 4 barrel would be awesome .

I like the idea of a cheap, yellow 210 car that is a street sleeper. The 2 door conversion makes it look like a bare bones, farmer car with a 6 banger, steelies and radio delete. If it were mine (it isn't) I'd remove the remaining trim with the exception of the hood ornament. I like strippers. Not a fan of hood scoops. Your car - your call.

You can cut thru the overlaped panel and come out with a perfect single cut that will match, no need to guess, just know where to start and end your cut. There are clamps that go in the cut or you can make your own with all thread two washers two nuts. A wagon done like this would be the cats balls, did they have a boxed frame back then, like the newer ones? Less wagons then sedans? You earned your t.v. dinner for sure.😊
@grberendzenproductions312 Жыл бұрын
When you took the inner structure out, did you lay it on the ground, outer face down, and step on it to try to get the divots popped out? Maybe that's what made that filler pop loose at the top of the white trim line. You did some nice patch panel work. I would use the rear glass regulators, but I'd have rear seat passengers, even with a two door.

Listening to it idle for a sec, then hit the gas, my first thought was a fuel issue, cutting out, fuel pressure, injectors like you said. Reminds me of back in late 60s one of my older brother's had a Canary yellow 55 2dr, with same rims, Mickey thompsons, 327 or 283 4sp. He made a molded in Tach out on hood like a GTO. My other older brother had a black 57 4sp, one had 327 & other 283, I can't remember which, I was like 6-7 yrs old, have 4 older bros. I like those T/A shakers on the wall.😁
