The best fender stand is. Cut an old tyre in half at the centre of the tread. Fit tyre over top of 44 gallon drum. Choose tyre that fits a little tight on drum. Fender does not slip on rubber and drum is at perfect height. Ron from South Africa

Dr. Pepper 12-pack cases make fine template material. Impressive skills on display. Not many can patch stuff without a bunch of fancy equipment. Supposedly some Brits can jack up a hood ornament and build a classic car under it in a garden shed. You are showing us the way!

This project hit at the perfect time for me. I have a 56' GMC that will need some of the same work. I quit drinking years ago so I have the same problem for templates. A good alternative I have found is store bought frozen pizza boxes. It is expensive template material but it comes with a free pizza.

for templates ive got to really liking ram board . they sell it at lowes here . its meant as floor protectant but is same as a beer box thickness however comes in 3' rolls. works awesome

A 1 inch or 1.5 inch conduit 90 degree bend cut in half will do both fender brows nicely. It will take a bit of sectioning but it is the cheapest fix out there for fender brows.

The only other thing I would have done is weld the inside of the flange as well, it makes the edge thicker and less prone to cracking, you can grind a slight bevel on the edge

The step repair came out good, maybe on the next step weld it on the inside. That way you grind a lot less of your weld off. I like those old trucks.

I think it might be a good idea to invest in a pair of hand steamers. They're for bending metal by hand and are about 3" wide and can be either straight or 85ish degrees
