The title says it all. A few weeks a go I gave my 1957 Chevy "convertible" a low buck splash job with some shiny red tractor paint. Over all the paint/look came out fantastic!
I had a few spots where the orange peel was a little more than I would have liked. So I decided to try my hand at wet sanding and HIGH speed buffing. it's a steep learning curve that I of course failed at.....
Orange peel was deleted and a nice high gloss shine was applied! Even the worst paint jobs can be corrected with a little sanding and buffing!

It doesn't matter what people say, it's the fact you took a neglected piece of history and brought it back to a respectable condition, which is more than the perfect people have done, while they ride around in their new foreign garbage, keep up the good work

Couple of tips, when using a wool pad also use a cleaning spur to keep the product from building up on the pad which might cause burn thru, also throw a blanket over the interior to keep the product spattering all over parts of the car you dont want, overall it looks good, great job!

Some of the SEMA cars can easily have $100k in body and paint. Especially now with prices. PPG high build primer is over $400 for a gallon kit.

Dan: Any time I have an issue with swirl marks in my clear (especially a dark color), I'll do my wet sanding and throw it out in the summer sun for the rest of the day. Since wet sanding "opens" the clear, the heat of the sun will "tighten" it back up. The end result is it buffs easier and the swirl marks come out a lot easier. 🙃

Agreed...but when I got old I learned that being able to see helps a lot...haha. I can't spray a car worth a $hit anymore ...well I can, but my glasses get fogged with overspray and then I can't see $hit...get runs and dry spots both...so I gave it up (painting). damn it! haha...but hey I can spray primer like a pro haha...just poor it on until I run out haha. Edit: "Bondo in a spray gun"

Dan if the paint is still soft it still has solvents in it. When you buff it and wax it you are sealing those solvents in. The best thing to do with enamel paint is to wet sand it with fine sandpaper and let it set until the solvents have evaporated out. You can not hurry anenamel

The good thing about your car like I was told when I did mine it's how you feel when you're finished, it's looks good by the way you're doing a good job, you'll get better with practice. You might want to use a spray bottle with soap in it and use a squeegee instead of a rag it cleans and dries the water faster looks great!

Hello there cowboy here again so you want to be a polishers lol it takes a while to get the feel it's real easy to burn through a couple of hints a little bit of compound goes a long way also put the clothes away till you're done with the compound also watch your angle you want to float the pad at a slight angle keeping a larger point of contact with the pad , the get a good Polish and a clean pad to finish polishing out the clear coat to a nice luster try watching a good video on cut and buff you'll see first very careful sanding with multiple grits then compound stop wash it good to get all the compound off the surface only then Polish it keep trying you'll figure out what works kinda and clearly what doesn't no matter what pad you're using with whatever cream a light touch don't bear down ever you'll find out way to quickly why all the best be patient with it as always remember be safe healthy and happy God Bless 🤠

I worked at a body shop after retiring from the Army and my boss told me basically the same thing, I just told him he's getting the quality of work according to my pay level. The next day I bought in a fender I fixed at home on a project I was doing and pointed to the car I was working on at work and said "$12 an hour" and then pointed to the fender I brought in and said "$20 an hour", guess what... I got a pretty good raise.....

One thing about it, is that, if it does go south, You can always respray it, because it will already be sanded. You wouldn't be out other than the paint. But I don't think that will be needed. I have faith, Also when I was a young boy, my father would paint cars part time. I would help sand while my father would polish the paint. He never had any problems using basically the same paint as you. This was in the 60's. Good Luck. Ronnie. You could use a couple of drops of dish soap. will help sand easier, like a lube.
