Single exhaust 55-57s had the fuel and brake lines on the inside of the frame, on dual exhaust cars the lines were on the outside of the frame. On the front end: the original ball bearings required frequent re-packing and were a PITA. The hot set up was to replace the wheel hubs with mid 60s ones, ( mine came off a 65 Impala ) the tapered roller bearings were a huge improvement! I am still running the drum brakes on my car, discs are a common upgrade. Power discs should be awesome!

I went with a serpentine belt set up off a big block truck and Hydro Vac power brakes...works great. Rack and pinion power steering turns without effort and a cross flow aluminum radiator with two large fans cools in the Las Vegas heat..I have a down flow aluminum radiator and electric fan to get rid of...never used..also installed new larger fuel tank with electric fuel pump in the tank and have another new tank gathering dust...live and learn....I'm sharing what I learned working with tri fives for 50 years. Also learned I should have stayed with a Holley 850 double pumper and skipped the EFI...never to old to learn..

I believe the 57 does quite well with out line lock. Sounds like tons of power that would have been impossible back in the day. Love those newer chevy engines Great video

Some of my favorite parts of the videos are the short drives. So many people now have stuff and just let it sit in a garage, lucky if it sees daylight 2x a year. I know the roads suck, but c'mon people, at least enjoy the thing a little bit, like you do.

@@DDSpeedShop short term is disc brakes up front and an 8.8 ford out rear for the discs and posi along with some boiled linseed oil for the patina and a pertronix electronic ignition for the distributor. Longer term is getting some new bearings for a crank, lowering the compression and a few odds and ends for the roots blower going onto a 440 I picked up for it. I'll have to figure out some kind of deal with a transmission too, hopefully a 4 speed while i'm at it.

Burn outs was the least of your worries with the old master cylinder, They was horrible If one line broke the entire system was gone. Just getting rid of the single MC made it 100 times safer the fact they are disk and power is just icing on the cake.

Something to beware if you have a brake warning light system in use. The plastic nut with the small metal pin is the sensor for that warning light on the proportioning valve. It has to do with the way the 2 halves are tied together and what side the contacts slide to from center to turn the warning light on. (if there is a leak of bad seal it will move the position on the switch from center and trip a switch letting us know to check our brake system. I said that because the whit nut with the pin that goes to the warning light goes on the proportioning valve needs to be removed and replaced with a calibration tool that holds the sensor switch in the proper place during the bleeding. Then once the brakes are solid you remove it and replace with the sending unit and you have a proper bleed brake system. Of course if you did not use this feature and put a brake system warning light in then I guess it would not matter. But many modern gauge sets have the dummy light for these old cars built in that they never had before so they can be made more modern and safer.
