If they release De blob 3, it would definitely attract the Splatoon fans as the franchise also focused on music & paint/creativity with its gameplay. With a new spark of platformers in recent times, De Blob’s return is plausible. The only ask I have for De Blob 3 is to incorporate an updated combat system, bigger music library, and interesting puzzles. With that, I really wish a De Blob 3 would be released.

A very interesting video; I’ve been playing De Blob 2 since launch and I appreciate what you have to say about the franchise. While I consider myself to be a superfan of this underground series, I’ve never even heard of the failed De Blob online multiplayer idea. Your critiques of the gameplay are spot on; a hyper-focused concept that unfortunately neglects other aspects of gameplay. I just wish you could have commentated on one final bit of the game: John Guscott’s adaptive soundtrack that would adapt to what’s going on in the game world. A different instrument assigned to each color that would play every time something is colored; how there are many different tempos, rhythms, and variants of the same song playing depending on the color level of the world; and just how vibrant the overall soundtrack is. Writing adaptive music in videogames is incredible, and John Guscott knocked it outta the ballpark with the De Blob games

Interestingly, what makes the DS De Blob 2 unique is that it takes place after the first De Blob, but before the console De Blob 2. So, to get the full story of De Blob 2, you have to play the DS game first, and console game afterwards.

Fun Fact: De Blob was originally gonna have a CG animated series for SYFI but because of THQ's bankruptcy. It was canceled before it premiered.

After realising the team behind the original tech demo worked on Awesomenauts, I can see the connection with the art style and sci-fi setting. I also find it interesting how the original tech demo was made in the Netherlands, while the commercial releases were made in Australia, which means this game was pretty much made in polar opposite countries. But I will say the re-released versions are better because of the removal of the motion controls. The only thing that makes them worse is the FMV cutscenes are slightly out of sync. At least you can get a patch for that with the PC versions. And yes, these games did also get digital releases on PC, which you didn't mention in the video.

I never see people talk about the original The Blob game, the fact that there was going to be a DS version of the first game, or de Blob: Revolution in these videos. I really appreciate that you did so much research for this video also, there has been some "new" never before heard content being released for de Blob... I got in contact with the composer of both the games John Guscott, and he gave me some things like music demos, cutscene music, and a few other things which I don't really have permission to share yet. If anything if de blob 3 was around it could be. Easier for motion controls, new creation activity, including new mechanics and so giving our favorite blob his time on the big screen and on the nintendo switch

Awesome video. I think half the fun of the original De Blob were the motion controls with the Wiimote. Maybe a Switch version could be successful but I can’t imagine playing it with a normal controller.

Great vid. I actually prefer De Blob 1 due to its uninterrupted gameplay loop when compared to the console sequel. De Blob 1 knew painting everything with the music getting more hype was its selling point, and it delivered! The sequel was still good, nowhere near the first one imo.
