I’d love to see you mess with a truck. I’ve never messed with any of this but I’m gonna do my Colorado reflector lights with MLED’s and the new Morimoto led high beam. Plus halo’s to match the turn signal switch back.

Don't know if you've tried it, but I have had phenomenal results with the niteshades spray on chrome. About 4 coats and it blacks it out, but it makes it a really wicked black chrome look. If you haven't tried it, get a scrap piece if you have one laying around and just go to town with it. 2 thin tack coat layers and then get a little heavier for the subsequent layers until you get to where you like how it looks

I painted my chrome and when I installed the clight I scuffed them and now have to repaint them. Will Zep also remove the spray paint cause I don’t want to sand and repaint….

i did this with a second gen cts and it didnt work. it was previously sanded and primed, but i wasnt happy with how the primer grabbed so i tried this. its striped the primer but not the chrome. not sure why, maybe the sand and primer but i dont think that would be it. i can 100% say that the fog piece i used is plastic, maybe it was a different process? maybe sand and primer? not sure but was in for an hour.

Sebastian Vecchi yeah that’s tru, I have oem shrouds on mine and a specific part on them has to stay chrome if not the projector itself will burn out the paint or eat up the plastic of the chrome is removed on that part of the shroud due to the uv/sun light reflecting of the projector to that area. I’m wondering how that process be? Doubt just painters tape would do the covering if dip in Zep

Brian Smith I think what’s in my bucket is at least 2 years old? So yeah you can take the 30 something g bucks for 5 gallons and use that over and over for a long friggin time like I have.

I'm pretty sure it won't work on actual chrome plating like you'd have on a grill - only on aluminized stuff like headlight reflectors. There's a ton of chemicals that will remove aluminum very fast. Actual chrome plating is a MFer to remove though.

I have to wonder if this stuff is really stripping it off or is it just having a chemical reaction which turns it dark and maybe etches it. As long as it's paintable and the paint holds up it doesn't matter I suppose but I just don't see how a degreaser could actually remove real chrome plating which is actually a metal (chromium) applied to another metal (such as steel) during an electrolytic process.

So what if you take some spray Degreaser and clean your car and spray some grease off of it and that gets on the Chrome plastic parts, is it going to melt your Chrome right off. That could be lawsuit City

I guess not. A bunch of guys tried a few years ago and pretty much everyone complained about the thing not working right. I LOVE mine, so it must be different, and I have no clue where to get another one.

You are trying to strip real chrome plating. I’m stripping vacuum metalized aluminum. Two very different things unfortunately. People just call the shiny stuff inside headlights chrome, or chrome paint, but it’s actually vaporized aluminum, which the zep breaks back down and literally just melts it off.

Muriatic acid and hydrogen peroxide…find the correct ratios.. strips stubborn chrome off of quality plastic reflectors, may melt cheap plastic reflectors.. strips in 30 min

@@flyryde I can see your point, but for most of the people watching your series I can only assume are ballers on a budget. Being able to reuse the degreaser is a plus, (especially for someone who does a lot of chrome removal) but for your every day Joe, is a bit unnecessary. I'd rather deal with the smell, and be mindful of clear plastics for a lesser price. Added bonus, I can use the remainder of the easy-off to clean my oven! Win-win. Love your content by the way!

Brian Richardson well I’ve use the oven cleaner method it does work on oem chrome bezels and last headlight build I had was aftermarket and the shroud did not wanted to work, the chrome shroud on that did not came off i had to prep the area and sand it well and have it painted to match the rest of the bezel in black i was stuck at that point and didn’t understand it but i just kept going and moved on, I wonder if Zep would of took care of it, gonna have some of this Zep as a back up if the oven cleaner don’t do it at first, the fumes out of it does get to you and I always have some in the shelf to clean my oven 🤣

@@triple_threat_lightz I've yet to have an issue, but I'm sure there are some instances where it may not work. I can't give any feedback on the Zep degreaser other than what I've witnessed on this channel, and seems to work well. From my standpoint, Having a few gallons of chrome riddled degreaser sitting in a bucket is a waste of money. Not to mention at that point will have no foreseeable alternative use. Alas, these are just my two cents, and are not to be misconstrued to be the best, or only method. He's a professional, and I'm a low budget D.I.Y.er. If I had the expendable cash flow I would pay him to do my lights! 😀

Have you done it could you do the opposite, on how to re-chrome the piece of plastic? Mine was flaking and haven't been able to find a video. Also have you made or could you make for the same plastic piece a black chrome?

He did not dechrome it. It oxidized the plating and turned it black. Almost any strong alkaline will do the same, including bleach. Removing it is another problem. I need to do that as well, since my grille is blistered. The only videos I've seen addressing that end up just peeling it off. Tedious and slow, but it works.

Watched a video in tiktok and a guy did it and it worked. Did it with leds in and all worked alright although he said he killed the life of the leds. So I would just do it with out lights 🤷🏻‍♂️
