Exciting moments for the restoration team and aviation enthusiasts. I enjoyed the engine fireup at Warbirds on Parade at Ardmore ten days ago. It is a pity that I could not stay in NZ longer to witness its flight.

I'm old enough to remember when we had a Mossie here in the UK that actually flew, I also remember the Vampire and Meteor display when I used to go to the RAF Finningley airshow here in Yorkshire.

Good news, I think those planes are back in the UK? Avspecs in NZ are rebuilding more, and a local crew here still has a Vampire.

@@johnfallon3525 That is interesting. I was trying to think why the Mossie would have what I would refer to as D-Day stripes on the wing. So it can't have been for D-Day as 75Sqn(NZ) RAF as it was in 1944 was flying Lancasters. So I guessing for Malaya/Indonesia Confrontation, Will have to research this.

Restoration? No it’s a new build with a minimum of old parts. Still fantastic but let’s not kid ourselves

And where do you think all the metal work and components came from?
@sblack4810 күн бұрын
@ the sheet metal is all new. The plumbing and electrical and hydraulics are all new. The engines and props could be overhauled. Instruments are likely new. Likely the castings for the various flight controls and landing gear are original.
