Dea Dardanica is the name of an indigenous deity of Dardania in the central-western Balkans found. Several inscriptions and votive monuments of the Roman era from the region attest to the cult of Dea Dardanica and its symbolism. The name "Dea Dardanica" means "Goddess of Dardania" in Latin and is to be seen as the interpretation of local customs in a Roman context. It is a personification of the region of Dardania and its people. Monuments to Dea Dardanica provide us a rare glimpse into the views of the indigenous peoples of the Balkans during the Roman era and their interaction with their status as imperial subjects and citizens.
