Bardha which means white, comes from the Germanic word berd, there is also a name Bertha which means shiny/white like bardha in albanian. So the name is clearly half from north Europe and Greece it self. The problem now is that, because we don't know what illyrians were really ( because illyrians weren't same ethnicity or language). What we see now is, these people have been influenced from various of countries like Greeks, celts, Germanic and so on.. For example teuta language was ancient Greek sounds obvious because these people interact a lot with Greeks they got influenced by Greeks and after in medieval we can see these illyrians as we call ( Greeks and Romans after) becoming Greeks. What you know speak at the moment ( albanian dictionary) is at least 80% loan words and before that was 100%. So you are not something different you trying to be something different, but you can't.

It's true that Romans were brutal to Dardans, cause they didn't want to acknowledge they were connected to Dardans that went to Italy and created Rome. Although there were almost 12 Illyrian tribes that went over and settle to Italy before Rome became Rome. Despite all things Romans did to assimilate the Dardans, and the southern Illyrians, they could not succeed with that. Most of the northern Illyrian, Dacian(Gaetian), and Thracian were Romanized, that's why it was also easy for them to be Slavicized later on as well, while it was more difficult for Slavs and Serbian Slavs to assimilate most of the Dardans(Kosovars) and the south Illyrians, which are today Albanians.

Dardanos was the founder of Dardania and the son of Illyrios a prince of the greek city state Thebes in the south of Hellas, Illyrios was the son of Cadmos and the olympian queen harmonia a hellenic/greek royal family of thebes. According of official sources Illyrios was the founder of the kingdom Illyria and he had some childs like Polydoros, Agave, Dardanos and more which got lands and buid up after the own kingdoms. People need to know that the battle scenes feature neither the accurate uniforms nor fighting style of the period and are culled from video games. And I'm not sure where your source material comes from other than the hashtags of related material on youtube. Material which can often be incorrect, incomplete and at odds with generally accepted history. Not to be a killjoy, but we need to understand that most ancient history was written for patrons, political views and almost always by someone not that at the scene. Think about today and how 2 people can draw completely opposite conclusions from the TV news sitting next to each other in the same room. Now go back 3,000 years and think about how accurate any information can be other than what is based on archeology. The Iliad and Aeneid are great stories composed hundreds of years after the events they purport to relate. But neither is history. Still very entertaining I just hope as one student put it "yes, Mycenaean chariots have six spokes, I saw them in the movie "Troy", basing his or anyone's answer on information from a movie doesn't become the source of knowledge for any history.

First of all very good video thank you, i have some things to add i know that bardylis was dardanian it was called the dardanian raid of epirus for a reason , the dardanians not only looted the bastarnae camps they plus taked their kids and women as hostages that explains the retreat of the bastarnae, and a funfact when dardania became a province of the roman imperium it was important for the romans to rename it in moesia because in the old mythology aeneas was the founder of rome i think they dont liked that and very important dont let the hellenic tribes nowdays the greeks tell you dardania were greeks or hellenic dardanians never got Hellenized, overall thank you for the video

Thank you! I've read the thesis of Bardylis being Dardanian and how he might've been a ruler of a larger Dardanian kingdom. However, I wasn't able to find a single source to verify any of those theories. Dardania appears to be small and still largely insignificant during Bardylis' time. Also, it never spanned even close to Dassareti, which was Bardylis' main region. Although his exact tribe is unknown, it was more than likely one of the tribes between Macedonia and coastal Illyria, definitely not Dardania. Towards the end of the video, I did mention the emerging Romans using "Moesia" to label Dardania for those reasons. Thanks for the feedback!
