@Derek You will for sure get more clicks with full books instead of parts. People who don't know your channel won't click on a random part 2 of a book if it pops on their feed, and other people who find your stuff won't know that you're very consistent and put out a ton of audiobooks. I find your channel looking for zombie audiobooks and for the first few parts of dead Texas I didn't even realize they were your books and I just thought they were uploaded by a random person, but once I realized what this channel was I subbed and have been listening for it a year and a half now. I was actually about to buy one of the box sets you have on Amazon to help support you since I've gotten hundreds of hours of listening on this channel.

A terrific story! And I really liked it being a much longer story, and having the entire story here all at once, rather than getting separate chapters. There are a lot of things in this one that is different than the other stories in the series. This is the first one that shows any tv coverage of the outbreak of the zombie plague. That only makes sense, in a nation where news is reported as it happens, the outbreak of a zombie plague would definitely show up in some tv coverage, even if it was interrupted by the zombies. It was always a plot hole, that in other stories set in major cities, there was never any tv coverage, only dead air or reruns. In the early hours of the plague outbreak, the news media and social media would be exploding with coverage, until the people broadcasting the coverage were themselves killed. This story handles this idea much more realistically. A problem of the logistics of the zombie plague is shown very well in this story. In the context of the story, everyone with A type blood will get sick, die and rise as a zombie. But the question is, even if you know, what do you do about it? While it might---MIGHT---be possible for the military to round up and execute all their people who have type A blood, I have my doubts. Now I can well believe that the higher ups would sacrifice the rank and file, what about all the higher ranking men who were infected? Does anyone think they would allow themselves to be executed? Not bloody likely. Now comes the real question: what about civilians? Do you think that anyone would agree to allow themselves to be rounded up, isolated and left to die? How many would passively accept that there was nothing that could be done for them or for the people they loved who were infected? Desperate, dying people are not going to be reasonable, and they are not going to be willing to sacrifice themselves to save others. A few might see reason, but that would be a very few. Most would refuse to accept the truth, they would resist, they would run. You would need an overwhelmingly large force of men to enforce any such "quarantine", men who were willing to shoot and kill any unarmed civilian who refused to cooperate. It just would not work. This story illustrates the grim reality of this situation very well. What was really interesting was the introduction of a character in the story who is an obvious sociopath, who enjoys killing and is good at it. Now you might think he was a convenient man to have around in a zombie plague, but unfortunately it would only be if you could control his actions. But you could never, ever trust him not to turn on anyone, not just the infected. It was really fascinating how the writer used this character. Creepy, but very well done! But I was very happy that the serial killer got to be zombie chow in the end. And I really liked the happy ending! A really excellent story. A terrific entry into a fabulous series!

My family's from Alaska and there were some things that really broke the immersion, like moose and bears are more of a threat than wolves are and only two of the main characters were women because apparently rural Alaskan women aren't outdoorsy or own guns?
@DerekSlatonHorrorAuthorАй бұрын
Yeah the women initially had a bigger role to play in this story but as I got into it the story went in a different direction. I swear it wasn't intentional. There are a lot of strong female characters throughout my series, they just sort of got sidelined in this one.

Good little story this, fun and fast moving. I started watching Black Summer season 2 while listening to this, so an audio book of running zombies in Alaska was the perfect accompaniment 👌 If you wouldn’t mind a bit of advice, I noticed a bit of a problem with repetition. The zombies are always letting out “excited moans.” I noticed it across a bunch of other stories too. Firstly the repetition was uninteresting but it also decreased the threat, since an “excited moan” sounds too happy and playful for a flesh eating monster 😂 you used a few other similarly pleasant words to describe their moans as well, so I would just recommend varying the adjectives a bit more, as well as giving them some more horrific details 👍
