Yeah, I've always tried to look at dbd as a game about creating a horror movie with your friends. The survivors have signed up for this role. It's a consensual scare em up, and at the end of the day, it's about making the experience fun for everyone rather than being mean to your opponents (see how people in dbd discourage tunneling and facecamping)
@stellabee20262 жыл бұрын
best DBD I've ever seen was watching the streamer playing the killer just carry the only survivor to the exit and letting them go even tho he usually just laughs like an absolute maniac while slaughtering people

I enjoy DbD, but before the lawsuit preferred Friday the 13th hands down. It was slower paced & little less gamey, captured the films suprisingly well you can tell these guys were fans. More options to escape & work with the team or adapt accordingly to how it pans out. escapeing the shlockly slasher with its archetype victims. It had so much potential, came closer to that 80s slasher spirit than any modern slasher has ever tried to recreate
@GhoulishGourd2 жыл бұрын
100% agreed. I still play DBD, but I really wish F13 didn’t get shuttered. Warts and all it was such a great love letter to the franchise.

Yes, I was playing during it’s prime, and for the most part people would actually try to accomplish things and not just mess around. I greatly preferred it to dead by daylight, and I liked that there were multiple ways to win/lose in Friday the 13th.

@blipboigilgamesh78652 жыл бұрын
I've once seen a movie that kinda made a point about that. Essentially the movie argues that in art violence and suffering is presented almost always in a way to be palatable to audiences, so people's fascination with serial killers and violence in general mostly stems from that phenomena

after over 2k hours of soulsucking, the last straw for me was when the official dbd twitter encouraged everyone to buy pinhead NFTs. i thought i'd struggle to quit a game i considered my favorite and yet, nope! which completely sums up my dead by daylight experience, trapped in a neverending cycle of dignity-destroying and dignity-regaining until i had a good enough reason to pack up. i think you nailed that, good video! i'd love to see / listen to / whatever an.. audio essay? about VHS whenever that comes out given how ppl can't stop comparing the two.

18:29 This perfectly sums up why I stopped playing the game tbh. I don't want to participate in a heated competition, nor do I want to feel better than everyone. I want to be in a shared experience where everyone has a good time. It's why my all-time favorite thing to do was play Scratcher Mirror Myers on Hawkins Lab; I got to jump scare all of the players by using the in-game wallhax, build up my BBQ stacks, and then let everyone go at the end. I got to be the spooky monster, but I didn't have to ruin anyone's fun in doing so. But the devs have since removed both Hawkins as a map and the blood point incentive on BBQ, and so many of the other maps are so open that Mirror Myers just doesn't have that same ability to scare people that it used to. Despite not having played since the infamous hockey analogy, I still keep up with the developments in the game, because somewhere deep down I want to love it still. I want this to be the "play a horror movie" game. But it's really not. It's freeze tag with extra steps. And the survivors have an incredibly boring gameplay loop in my opinion.
@RedSpade377 ай бұрын
Late comment of mine here, but I agree with what you said 100%. SM-Myers is my absolute fav, and Hawkins is back now, so that's neat, but the same problems still apply. In fact, the "old meta" that was changed is slowly changing back, so I'm unsure where the game goes from here. I really hope that one day it becomes the "play a horror movie" game it could be.

I do enjoy DbD on occasion and I kinda played it before they had microtransactions and all that (not to be the "I played it before it was cool" I just think I wouldn't get into it now). It is still fun for me but I switch between Killer and Survivor based on my mood and I think that's the most fun way to experience the game. You get both the "how do I trick this one so I don't get a stab" and "what tricks are they gonna pull and how can I still give them a stab". Playing killer truly can suck lol. Not if you get looped or anything but I feel like at some point everyone is going for the same trick. Loop around pallets, use the flashlight when they kick or climb it, heal under pallets, get freaked out if there are no more pallets because they aren't used to someone actually breaking them... it can get old. Also nobody writes gg at the end anymore and I just think that is a bit rude lol.

Honestly like I play DBD a lot I dont get any sort of satisfaction or fun through playing a killer. And I'm a killer main. And I'm a horror geek. Its purely strategical and purely to play on online game. I don't think I have ever heard anyone actually talk about how this game makes them feel good or that they feel like they are in a horror movie, actually they feel bullied. And I disagree that people who take the villain role and be super imposing do it because they are horror psychos, I think they just lose games a lot and so had enough and just want to guarantee a good game for them even if it means being super toxic. And I think that is very bad. If you're having a bad day and lose a lot of matches, just put the game down, have a cup of tea, have a walk in the park. Being toxic as a killer just ruins the day of 4 other people who just want to play the game and if you do it to make you feel like the villain, then that's even worse because you don't even have a reason to do that and you're just being an asshole who ruins 4 other peoples day on purpose for no reason. Please don't do that. And if you want to feel power and bully people then just play survivor, they are very good at doing that. As a new survivor, you will be scared and be extremely nervous. When you actually become a pro player, you will become the bully. You will steal the killer's lunch money. You won't be scared of anything. It is fair that you are casual player and didnt play it much. Not judging, you are enjoying playing it and thats the most important thing even if you arent good at it. The game is badly balanced and survivor sided but hey as long as people enjoy playing it.

Good gaem opinion. Very nice and awesome. I'll never forget my first match of DeeBeeDee, I played as Myers on Crotus Assylum; and after spending like a minute and a half looking for survivors I decided "fuck it" and stood still with my one perk, insidious right outside basement in the main building. The moment was sweet, the survivors terror was palpable through the monitor, and they said they jumped in their chair.

I played F13 a lot when it was like, actually supported and wasnt a completely defunct wasteland, and have literally never had an experience similar to the ones referenced here. My rounds were really competitive, and teamwork was needed to win by the survivors. Ofc it was never a polished or, like, "good" game, with the lack of real monetary support behind it comparative to DBD. But I'm surprised that the experiences you've talked about here were the only ones you've had with it. One thing I'll say is I did find both games to get incredibly boring, super fast (even with the upgrade and perk system in DBD) to both watch and play. But I know I'm in the minority there lol
