Awesome!! I've been following this project since you started posting about it on KZbin. I plan on modding some CDJs soon enough because buying modern ones are simply way too expensive. Are you going to get the spinning display to work in the centre of the jog wheel? I saw it was working in some older vids.
@DJlegionuk6 жыл бұрын
HI, I am looking at that, but was just trying to get the basics working as well as I can. The jog wheel was giving me a few problems due to the speed of the encoder wheel. It was sending way to many midi commands, but I think I have that working as well as I can. For the centre display yes I can use the neo pixel ring like before, but it's only 24 led and I think that is not enough so I am looking at using a 2nd tft screen or making some sort of led matrix that could be an add on option. I have used them to mix and they are working really well.

Great! Will you make the schematics public as well as the finished source code?
@DJlegionuk6 жыл бұрын
Eventually yes. Still deciding what I want to do with regards to kits. I already put an older version of the source code on github.

@@DJlegionuk Any updates? Would love to acquire code or a kit to do this mod! SO AWESOME!
@DJlegionuk Жыл бұрын
@@ohniceness6138 Hi, I stopped working on it because I could not get the platter tracking to work that well and as traktor is dumb and I can only send that I am moving forward or backwards it has no way for me to tell it how to correct it's self.

Hi there! I'm following this project since years ago, but remember it for a couple of months. What happened finally? I'm thinking about getting a pair of 800smk2 to use them with timecodes,but having a "complete" mapping would be better

Amazing work dude! Do you know if you will have this project for sale as a kit? If so do you have a rough estimate on when it would be available? I would love to get my hands on a pair of these.

At the moment I don't know. The PCB's needs to be re-designed to work with SPI based rgb led instead of neo pixel because the interrupts it uses messes with the interrupts used by the jog wheel so they are not very stable. It will be another £100+ to get a set made up and I don't have the cash or time to look at it for a while. I do use them now and then and they do work very well, but I had to reduce the led routines to make the jog wheel work correctly.

Wow this is cool I hope there a community for this ,, iv got loads of experience with arduino and microcontroller interrupts , c ,, what's the main components in the £2000 makes them worth so much Iv djy along as iv been a hardware hacker but never look inside cdjs or ddjs

Hi DJ Legion! Great mod for this CDJ, nice job :-) Can you tell me on what bit depth the pitch fader is outputted by Teensy to Traktor? (To how many steps the pitch range is splitted) Many thanks!
@DJlegionuk4 жыл бұрын
HI, I use the pitch bend command so it can send 14bit values or 16,383 . The standard analog read on arduino and teensy is 10bit so I have to upscale this to match the 14bit.

@@DJlegionuk Thanks the answer, sounds nice :-) I was doing a controller with the Midibox NG from ucapps.de, do you know that platform?

Great project, could work with Mixxx software too?
@DJlegionuk6 жыл бұрын
Yes it will work with MIXXX and Serato, but I am not sure if some of the parts I have on the display like loop size and tempo range will work the same. I need to sit down with MIXXX and setup a full midi template.

Brilliant. I'll keep an eye out for developments.

+1 for Mixxx over here too!

I have a crazy idea right now for a mechanism to make a jogwheel mechanism from scratch, for use in an open source DJ controller. It would use gears to turn a standard rotary encoder to get more resolution. What I don’t know is how many turns of a rotary encoder outputting 14 bit midi would equal one turn of a normal high res jogwheel, and if this is just a completely impractical idea. Any thoughts?
@DJlegionuk5 жыл бұрын
Have you seen how small the encoder wheel is on the cdj ? the on and off strips are so tiny it's hard to see them with your own eye. Most midi jog wheels work on a click forward and backward with acceleration so it's hard to say how many. 14 bit midi would be 32768 ( using + and - values) in each direction if you could send it absolute that would be 91 pulses per degree.
@DJlegionuk5 жыл бұрын
The main problem is Traktor and Serato not accepting direct Jog wheel commands from anything apart from partner products. If I was to do it I would use something like the encoders used with the O Drive that are super precise and know it's position at all times.

DJ legion there are apparently workaround for that using Bomes, but I’ve not tried it personally. I was thinking more along the lines of getting it working with Mixxx on a raspberry pi 3 in the unlikely event I can turn this stupid idea in my head into actual hardware in the real world. If that happens, I’ll put it on the internet
